  1. I keep a lot of canned beans, dry beans, several sealed bags of Trader Joe's quick-cook organic brown rice. Plus dry pasta, quinoa, and some flour and olive oils, and canned/packaged fish (mostly sardines, mackeral, anchovy, and salmon). I generally just buy a lot of stuff when I find it on sale, and I am eating from the stock also, so nothing gets too old. I think a good supply of Bourbon is a good thing to keep on hand as well. I believe it will keep for years, and could be very handy for medical use, pleasure, and for trade during a crisis.
  2. I never said it changed. I said that Christie had it in the plan in 2016--to change that agreement and tax PA residents, but then he found an extra $200 Million and decided NJ did not need to rescind the agreement. My original point was the new NJ Governor may decide differently.
  3. If you look at the links, they say Christie was going to not renew the agreement. Said he had no choice due to budget. Then he magically came up with an extra $200 million and changed that provision. Pretty sure it was part of the same gas tax increase because my co workers from PA were complaining about both at the same time
  4. Just watched it. Good job at addressing the MSM propaganda and the honestly erroneous preconceptions that many non gun owners have.
  5. I thought it was all part of the same bill: Gas tax went UP, Sales tax went DOWN (but not so much that anyone could notice), Death Tax went DOWN; Plus collect income Tax on PA residents working in NJ. Christie had planned to start taxing PA residents who work in NJ--I thought it was part of the original gas tax package. At any rate, Christie found an extra $200 Million in his couch or something and changed his mind, the PA resident tax did not go through. I bet Murphy would love to bring that back! Christie taxing PA residents Christie will NOT tax PA residents
  6. So, under Christie's last tax increase there was talk of changing NJ/PA agreement where NJ doesn't tax PA residents who work in NJ. Think that idea will come back with Murphy?
  7. If it would give me a better chance of not getting a ticket, I will call the LEO anything they want. I know they work for us, and law enforcement is just we the people delegating the enforcement of our common rights to--which we have every legal right to protect and enforce ourselves. But if I can say a few easy words of respect and (usually) I drive away with a stern warning, I have no problem with that. And they are putting their lives on the line to protect our legal rights after all.
  8. I have NEVER had LEO ask to search my car on a traffic stop EVER. I can remember one time where the LEO was really P.O.ed because I was driving pretty fast (I was young and stupid). Another time I made a sarcastic remark (it was 3AM and I had just pulled an all-nighter at work) and the guy made me follow him to the station. Never ever asked for consent to search. That being said, if I am transporting a firearm IAW NJ law, there is no need to mention them. Read Blue Tent Sky and you will see that, unfortunately, some LEOs are not well versed in NJ gun law; and there are at least a few who may try to trick or coerce you into a consent-search. Problem is, you don't know if the one pulling you over is the one who is going to behave like a human being, or the 1% who is trying to screw you. Be respectful, follow Chris Rock's tips on "How not to get your ass kicked by the police," but don't volunteer anything that they are not asking and is not compelled by law.
  9. Be respectful, keep your hands where the LEO can see them, no fast moves, inform LEO if you are going into your pockets or glove box for documents, make sure every response ends with "Sir" and as short as possible. But most important: STFU
  10. Currently looking at SW states that are NOT California, but I would definitely consider moving to New California.
  11. That is not their goal. They really don't care about those problems. The goal is to restrict and ban guns, the inner city problems are just a means to get there.
  12. I have always used the NJ state website to do state taxes. It takes more time- I don't think you can import anything, so it's all manual entry. And not a great UI, but it's free and it does the job.
  13. So I am still thinking the flow sensor is bad. Even though it comes on now, it does not seem to heat the water enough at lower flow rate (like the bathroom sink). Kitchen sink and shower seem ok, but sometimes inconsistent. I believe it uses the flow sensor to control BTU based on flow rate, so maybe it is generating inconsistent it erratic readings. I have one one order, will see if it costs the issue
  14. I would be leery (a) installing software of unknown origin on my computer--especially the computer I use for my financial information and (2) entering all my personal data and tax information into software of unknown origin. But that's just me, and maybe I am paranoid--what could possibly go wrong?
  15. When I woke up this morning and find that we have no hot water. I have a Noritz NRC111-SV Natural Gas tankless, installed in Dec 2010. It is located in the basement on an outside wall and it has a dedicated black gas pipe coming in. I take a look at it, it is turned on with no error codes. But when I run water it does not fire up, and the "burner" light does not come on. This happened a few years back and I cleaned the inlet filter, problem was solved immediately. So again I cleaned the inlet filter, no joy. Then I pulled out the flow turbine, took it apart and cleaned it. Put it back together, everything spins real nice. Reinstall--no joy. Assuming the main board is good (thinking failed main board would pop an error code), the only other thing I can think of is the hall effect sensor and electronics (probably a simple op-amp and pull-up resistor). So I order a new flow sensor turbine and take a cold shower ;-) Tonight around 5PM I am cooking and I am running the hot water (I am an optimist). And I notice it is no longer ice cold. In a few minutes it is hot. Any ideas on the cause? I think these things are made for outside use, I can't imagine anything getting cold in there that would prevent operation? Last time this happened was also a cold, winter morning. Anyone have this experience with a Noritz unit? Thanks in advance
  16. Yes it will pick up commands over the TV but I found that with Star Trek ( using the"computer" wake word, it was pretty inconsistent). I did have one instance where it tried to buy something-it always asks for confirmation, so I stopped it. It would pick up the word about half the time but usually it would just light up but do nothing, sometimes it would all to repeat, or say it could not do that. I have also tried activating it by calling my home phone and say the wake word in a message-i have an old machine that plays the message over a speaker that sure next to the echo. I have never been able to get a response that way though.
  17. You can use the echo connect to use echo with your mobile phone or some VOIP like Ooma. I thought about it, read some reviews and decided not too
  18. I did have what I thought was a great drinking game. Change the wake word to "Computer" and watch star trek. Any time the echo responds to the crew saying "Computer", take a drink. Any time it responds with an easter egg, or tries to buy something from Amazon, down your entire glass. I did a dry run (literally--I really don't even drink, but I like games) and found that it really did not respond very well to voices off the TV--I got maybe 10-12 responses per season of STTNG; pretty sure the game would end in lots of sober people holding glasses of flat, warm beer.
  19. I own an echo and a dot. I changed my wake word to "Computer" so my house is now that much more like the Enterprise ;-) Problem is, I find myself at work or at stores--generally out in public--sometimes I will say "Computer, what time is it" or "Computer, what is the weather for tomorrow." People give me weird looks--but I am used to that already. Mostly what I use it for is timers, alarms, home automation, and cooking. I love the fact that I can say "computer, remind me to check the rice in 20 minutes" and 20 minutes later it will tell me "check the rice" So I can set multiple reminders and I don't have to try and figure out what each one was for. I also tend to weigh a lot of ingredients and usually the recipe gives a volumetric measure. So I can say "Computer, how many grams in 2.5 cups of water" and it will tell me. I also listen to music, podcasts and radio. I like the fact that I can just say "Computer, play KCIS radio" or "computer, play WPHT radio" and I can listen to any radio station.
  20. Yeah, some people will never understand this. Try telling them that they can get even MORE money back from the government by just increasing their withholding.
  21. I was just saying that this forum has a 1A forum (1st amendment lounge). I understand the BOR outlines out freedoms with respect to government and the law, and has nothing to do with a private forum, online it not
  22. Haha. Of course it is--until you run afoul of the forum guidelines.
  23. My post was in response to current and recent events, not ancient history. You bring up a whole different topic, better suited to 1A forum
  24. No. I see only one religion getting that free pass. Christians are attacked all the time for just expressing our beliefs in a calm, kind and loving manner.
  25. I would say every sin can be forgiven except for failing to ask for and believe in forgiveness, but that might get this thread moved to the 1A forum...
