  1. Which goes to the heart of the matter. This gentleman FAILED TO RAISE HIS DAUGHTER as a respectful, behaved, reasonable young person. The issue is with him. The 15 year-old minor is merely a product of education, values, positive example, and role model behavior which her father has put in her to date. And before someone begins bringing up "kids these days", TV, internet, librul media, peer influence at school etc etc, I'll just re-iterate -- yes, it's still HIS fault more than any of theirs. "Disciplining" kids is EASY. Smashing their stuff or taking it away is easy. Ditto imposing curfews and time-outs. Taking hardline is the easiest way of all parenting options, because it doesn't require much thought, or patience, and is always reactive. Making your kids damn LISTEN to you so that you don't have to "discipline" them to begin with is much harder. Instilling into them a model of behavior that won't compel them to post trash on Facebook is harder still. If you want to reinforce positive behavior, praise the kid in public. If you want to stop negative behavior, shame them in private. This guy did the opposite, only ensuring that he further distances himself from his daughter, and entrenching her in thinking that he's a "jerk". In other words, he'll get only less respect out of this, not more. More fear, but not more respect. The only "lesson" that this kid will take out of this, and will project it on others through her lifetime, is that when you lose and argument and lose your temper, to make your final point you should pull out your gun.
  2. Thanks for the instant Call of Duty flashback!
  3. Yup, seems so. Could have had a piece that is technically not a shotgun at all. "Sawed-off shotgun" means any shotgun having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length measured from the breech to the muzzle, or a rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length measured from the breech to the muzzle, or any firearm made from a rifle or a shotgun, whether by alteration, or otherwise, if such firearm as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches.
  4. Malsua: LorenzoS is asking about someone who is an NJ resident and is traveling within NJ, staying at a hotel overnight. Revell case and its FOPA dimension don't seem to apply at all, what do you say? It's 2C:39-6 all the way. (b)Directly to or from any target range, or other authorized place for the purpose of practice, match, target, trap or skeet shooting exhibitions, provided in all cases that during the course of the travel all firearms are carried in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section and the person has complied with all the provisions and requirements of Title 23 of the Revised Statutes and any amendments thereto and all rules and regulations promulgated thereunder; or
  5. If they're equal... Doesn't it mean that the "individual" is effectively overcharging you?
  6. A couple of people I spoke to on another forum swear by barrel-snakes. That variety with the cotton-y tail. Why not use those instead of patches?
  7. Newegg.com opened a distribution center in South River, NJ, they reportedly saw their business in the area increase, not shrink. I would be surprised if Amazon isn't betting on the same. I suppose the main advantage of opening a warehouse in NJ would be the speed of delivery to NYC and Greater New York area. Since Amazon agreed, in principle, to (eventually) collect CA sales tax, it's only a matter of time when this whole sales tax/no sales tax argument becomes moot.
  8. Thanks, gents... Looks like it's exactly what I am looking for -- a neat little gun that is both fun and versatile enough. Vlad's endorsement is enough for me to put down a deposit on it I understand full well that it doesn't hold a candle to an AR in terms of potency and distance. My question was more about what my acquisition priorities should be -- I don't have any long guns yet whatsoever. I wouldn't order it for use in NJ. BTW there are 20 and 30 round mags available now (plus 92 conversion adapters). A stock configuration JX49220M comes with 15-rounders. Edit: those are 9mm magazines, to be precise.
  9. Thanks for the thought, it makes total sense.. Although my plan was not to remove the insulation but to merely allow the safe to compress it. Based on my experience in installing in-wall speakers, this is possible. I wondered if swaddling the back of the safe in shower membrane or a similar watertight film might help to prevent the air moving through it, but it's probably indeed not worth the risk... Will look for an interior wall.
  10. Hello all, Having just purchased a Beretta Px4 and being driven by a wallet-destroying combination of completism and OCD, I am already finding myself staring at internet pictures of Beretta Cx4 carbine. It looks like a neat and fun piece of machinery, with a price that makes my missus complain about how many Italian made luxury goods she could buy with that money. But as much fun as this weapon promises, there seems to be no talk about it on this forum (or, I don't know how to use the Search function properly). The internet reviews seem to be positive, and a healthy accessories aftermarket points to the fact that this rifle is probably popular. Current prices still going strong are another indication of that. So, my questions to the experts are as follows: Is this indeed a decent firearm, or an expensive toy? Am I significantly better off with just building myself an AR instead (I know I am going to be better off. The question really is by how much)? Any current or past owners that care to share their experience? Thanks for any info, G.
  11. After the London bombing of 2008, for a while there were helicopters constantly hovering over a number of places of mass congregations in NYC. There were sometimes 2 or 3 at once above Times Sq, for example. Then in some newspaper (Metro, I think), I saw a photograph taken from inside one of the helos. There is a spotter/sniper fire team in the door port. Edit: phone typos
  12. I have a question regarding the in-wall safes to those in the know. Actually considering the V-Line "closet" cabinet. I think the wall it will go into will be not an interior walls within my house, but a perimeter wall. Although there are going to be shingles, homewrap, and insulation protecting the safe from the outside, I am concerned with the effects of temperature changes and, as a result, condensation. Is this a valid concern for the installation, or something that can be easily addressed with an extra dessicant pack and maybe a shower-type membrane or something?
  13. It does happen sometimes. Telecommunications Act of 1996 is a good example. Regarding Paul's bill. It was introduced in Jul 2011. The fact that is made so little progress to date in Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security speaks to its eventual prospects. Gotta admire Ron Paul's consistensy on issues, but there is zero chance that the bill will even make it to the floor. Rep. Paul knows that full well, of course.
  14. Well, the notary is NOT supposed to notarize any document that is not signed in his presense, so there's that.
  15. Wow, that is creepy. My references told me that they've been asked to vouch for my good character, and also to specify for how long they've been knowing me. Perhaps there is enough weird stuff about the reference letter forms to warrant a standalone data collection and study by NJ2AS.
  16. I will. I am telling you, I just came to realization that PDs CAN'T invent their own requirements once I started reading this thread. I wasn't familiar with that 3f article.
  17. hd2000fxdl: I am not a fan of P2P process either, but just to be precise, this town's PD asks for notary-signed affidavit for the FID, not for P2Ps.
  18. No, I am not approving of this requirement. At the time when I was applying, I was simply not aware of the article 3f that prohibits PDs from adding additional requirements. I will raise this next time when I apply for P2P. Edit: what I was trying to say that in terms of additional hoops, this requirement didn't seem as outlandish as other that are being reported here.
  19. My town requires to submit a notary signed mental health/criminal history affidavit that essentially duplicates the relates section on the FID/permit application. Their rationale is that it is to ensure that the signature is indeed yours. I don't get it, but OTOH it's not too onerous compared to what other towns' PDS demand. There is a Chase branch across the street for the municipal building, where one of the customer service reps is a public notary and he does it for free. Also, the $18 is not charged for the initial FID application and the permits applied for simultaneously with it. Only for subsequent permits. At least in my town.
  20. Hello there! Hopefully will be meeting you and your new CZ in person soon!
  21. Awesome review. You are making it excessively hard for me to resist buying a PPQ with my fresh P2P. Now, if only it had a decock...
  22. This is a typical novice mistake! It's not the grabbing of the genitals that helps, it's the simultaneous pelvic thrust that counteracts the recoil!
