  1. The statement is not so much Pro-2A as it is anti-mass media. Given how most of Hollywood is treated by the media that's far from surprising.
  2. Especially since the rifle was found in the car. Only the Glock and Sig 'revolvers' with 30 round clips were used by the shooter. My wife, who is fairly neutral on guns and was also extremely disturbed by this event, said it best: this isn't about guns, it's about people. Some people are messed up and will do evil by any means necessary. I told her that is why I go to the range, and want her to as well: if she is ever in a situation similar, I want her to have every opportunity to protect herself and family.
  3. Sure, if it's just her she can run or fight. What about her classroom? Getting the kids to flee without panic is very tough.
  4. This whole thing makes me sick. I have a daughter and to me the anguish of the parents right now is unimaginable. The people who spin this a pro or anti gun just make me angrier. While the antis are dancing and frothing at the mouth you can't seriously tell me this would have happened if the guy didn't have ready access to the firearms.
  5. What if you have a suit made out of this stuff, but put it on inside out?
  6. No way man.. it's QUANTUM.. The photons aren't routed, they never existed! #MindBlown!
  7. I may be wrong, but my layman's take is this: On it's own the IL decision doesn't impact NJ too much. What it does do is establish some blocks that could one day be used to help things in NJ. First, it establishes an interpretation of the Heller ruling that an individual has a right to carry outside the home. Second, it creates a situation where lower courts from different areas have conflicting rulings, which means the Supreme Court will most likely take up the case to clear up the discrepancy. Third, as BigHayden mentioned, the NJ "may issue" law has been upheld due to a misinterpretation of the Heller Ruling.. basically that an individual does NOT have a right to carry outside the home so the states can enact any restrictions they want. So, the IL ruling undermines the basis by which the "may issue" laws have been upheld. If the SC takes the case and rules in favor of IL then that interpretation is upheld and anyone challenging the NJ "May issue" laws could use it as precedence.
  8. Sounds good in a press release and through pictures on a web site. I'm skeptical though. If it really worked as advertised then it really wouldn't be advertised. DARPA (or the Canadian equivalent) would have slapped a classified cloak of its own over the whole thing. Assuming there is some nugget of truth behind the PR, there are still operational issues: .. The pictures show the fabric being layed out flat, almost perpendicular to the light source. How well does it handle more complex shapes and light directions.. the Human eye picks up distortion extremely well. .. What is the update rate? Can the fabric keep up with movement, and at what speed? If the update rate is slow then it will cause distortion. .. Mentions full-spectrum coverage.. My BS sensor kicks in.. if true that's amazing but again, if true it would be buried behind DARPA-type projects.
  9. My wife and I took the basic pistol class taugh by shootnj. It was held at range-14 so it's close. It was a fun class and we learned a lot and she was a lot more comfortable with handling pistols afterwards. I want to take more of their pistol and rifle classes if I could find the time and funds.
  10. I would find a range that has rentals and have you and your wife try a few options. While they probably don't have 22 mag you'd find other revolvers: 22, 38 or 357 most likely. When I tool my wife to the range she could handle but didn't like my 9mm semi-auto. She actually liked the 357 revolver shooting 38sp. The heft of the gun made it easier for her to handle.
  11. Got the dry box yesterday and the ammo today. After reading the above I was worried the ammo would be a mess. I was impressed though. 15x20-round boxes stacked and sealed in a bubble wrap "bag" inside the box Now I've got to find time to get to the range!
  12. Looks like my order was split in two as well. The first originated in Scranton, PA and will arrive today, the second was from Omaha, NE and should arrive tomorrow.
  13. Thanks. Do you know if you can shoot pistol on the rifle range? And what are their winter hours? I tried to look on their website but, honestly, it's a bit of a mess.
  14. FYI. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/jovan-belcher-kansas-city-chiefs-murder-suicide-tragedy-girlfriend-self-leave-orphan-daughter-why-still-playing-sunday-120112 "I would argue that your rationalizations speak to how numb we are in this society to gun violence and murder. We’ve come to accept our insanity. We’d prefer to avoid seriously reflecting upon the absurdity of the prevailing notion that the second amendment somehow enhances our liberty rather than threatens it. How many young people have to die senselessly? How many lives have to be ruined before we realize the right to bear arms doesn’t protect us from a government equipped with stealth bombers, predator drones, tanks and nuclear weapons? Our current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead."
  15. That was my thought as well. It was a huge tragedy but he was a NFL football player. I doubt he would need any weapons if he wanted to hurt somebody. Should we ban weight machines as well? Now, he was also reading an article written by someone else. Trying to find the text.
  16. That's because you don't need a powerful computer to hide in a movie studio and fake a moon landing .
  17. Any update on the pistol range? Can you shoot pistol at the rifle range? Also, are the hours still as above for the winter? I usually go to R14 but this looks a lot closer to me and I'd like to check it out.
  18. My wife is vegan and makes some fantastic dishes. This recipe looks good and could easily be adapted for her. Will have to give it a try.
  19. Uhg.. While it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it was pretty bad. At the same time I can honestly say that I came away from it with my expectations met.. and I was entertained, channeling my inner MST3K, for 2'ish hours.
  20. True.. but there is a big difference between what's available to a website (based on cookies, cache scraping..etc) and what's available to a browser plugin..
  21. Interesting idea and potentially useful. I'm curious what else it does. As a browser plug in it has access to a ton of information that I'm not sure I'd want sent back to centralized servers and used for marketing purposes.
  22. I think you've got it right. I had to fly a long gun back from Maine in August and followed the same procedure. At the airport the attendant at the check-in desk made me verify it was unloaded, escorted me to the TSA where it was run through the XRay, and waited with me chatting until we were sure the TSA had no questions. It was actually easier to check the case with the firearm at the gate then it was to get my non-firearm-related carry-on through security. In PHL, if I remember right, it came out the normal baggage carousel. The only thing I noticed when I got it back is that one of the padlocks had been removed. The other was fine. The only thing I can think of is that it didn't relock correctly after opening at the desk and was removed by TSA. Thankfully I had two locks on the case.
