  1. Coupon code not working, tried it with the noveske upper in stock.
  2. Thank you all for the responses. I am leaning towards an Elcan, but I need to ponder which one to get. The major drawback of the 1.5-6x is that shooting both eyes open without a true 1x isn't gona happen for me and that kind of kills it. I have some thinking to do. If anyone here has either model they want to sell feel free to shoot me a pm.
  3. Its amazing how many people don't take this into account. You mean my $400 PSA rifle won't put holes in holes with Tula ammo at 100 yards? This thing must be a piece of crap! I didn't know the spec was 4moa, I'm happy everything I own has been able to shoot 1MOA with match ammo at 100 yards as long as I do my part.
  4. Eh, I would buy one just to try it out but I prefer a pistol grip to be honest. An interesting add on for that rifle would be a fixed stock at the shortest length with spacers available to put in to mimick the length of the traditional 6 pos stock.
  5. If Elcan made a 1-6x I probably would have bought it already, but the DR is a 1-4x. You are correct in that myself and most users go nothing or full power. I'm just not sure 4x is enough for me. The HUGE selling point of the Elcan is that the eye relief of both magnifications is the same. Thats why its on top of the list.
  6. Open to other brands/models I might not be privy to, let me know your thoughts!
  7. I want the option to shoot both eyes open, so a 2.5-10 is out of the running. The uso 1-4 or 1-8 (especially the 1-8) is still in the running.
  8. Thanks for the input! I got the reco on the Elcan from Shane lol. Everything I have read about the Scar 17 says they are hard on scopes which is why even though I have had good luck on other rifles with the pst line I was hesitant to go that route. I will have to look up the weight of the Elcan. I can tell you when I put the hd gen 2 on the 16s I felt a big difference in the weight and she is now almost 10lbs, not something you want to lug around all day.
  9. I am looking for an optic for a scar 17s. I am looking at low power magnification scopes, something 1-4,6,8,10 etc. What would you get and why? I currently have or have owned: Vortex PST 1-4x and 2.5-10x and for the money they are a great value but might not stand up to the 17s's abuse Vortex HD Gen 2 1-6x this currently sits on my 16s and my only complaints are its heavy and has capped turrets Leupold 1-4x VR Patrol I wasn't a fan of the reticle even though the glass was good on it Trijicon TA-11 this is one of my favorite optics and I have 2 of em on different rifles but since having variable power optics I find them more useful, especially with my vision issues Trijicon TA-31 Very clear glass, great optic if you get right up on the scope but the eye relief killed it for me. Sold it for another TA-11. lot's of other low end stuff that I wouldn't put on this bad boy What I am considering: Elcan Spectre DR 1-4x USO 1-8x Steiner 1-4x Another vortex gen 2 1-6 if I don't find another perfect match SWFA 1-6 but I don't really like the reticle I have three non negotiable traits in the scope I will buy: 1 - Mil based reticle 2 - Turret adjustments match the reticle (i.e. mil/mil) 3 - Illuminated I would love to hear any other available options you have or know about. Budget should be $2k or less. So, what say you NJGF?
  10. TLR-1HL. I got all of mine on sale for $108 shipped from Botach (yea you can poo poo me but whatever thats a great price). They are bright as hell and I've put at least 500rds though my fnx tactical with it on there and the sucker not only has stayed pretty clean but has not loosened up either. I have them on 5 guns (2 pistols 3 rifles) and they haven't come loose or malfunctioned on the rifles either. As others have said the x300u is the top of the line, but for half the price this gives you the same brightness and more of a flood pattern vs a direct beam on the x300. That's a preference thing but I like the flood.
  11. Place had a lot of used inventory to peruse last time i was in there.
  12. Noveske is my favorite brand out of all the ars I have. Both mine are tack drivers vs the other brands I have. Like bcm, dd, pws but noveske is tops in its price range for me.
  13. Is this the start of a new match?? Obstacle/long range shoot. Get through a trivial obstacle near the clubhouse, shoot a 3 shot group from prone on the hp range. Im in.
  14. Im an admittedly mediocre shooter but I have to really concentrate to get moa groups at the 300yd rabge even with a precision rifle and ammo. That being said 500 or 1k would be nice. They would have to allow 50bmg though.
  15. I decided to have the ria pictured a few posts above refinished. Got it back today. Here she is:
  16. ...and I bet the cost will double along with the time...
  17. I missed a big portion of thIs thread, as usual. Im a scout, from tiger cub through boy scouts. My father was our cubmaster and some of the finest people I met were my scout masters/leaders. It was only through my juvenile defiance I did not file for my eagle badge and it is one of only a few regrets I have. The Boy Scouts taught me an inumerable amount of skills and I look forward to volunteering my time with my old troop.
  18. Not a parent but work hard play hard is a strong sentiment that ran through me from a young age. The only one stronger is "your word is your bond. without your word a man is nothing." If people cant trust you, you are lost. Im young in the grand scheme of things but its sad how many grown men I have met that break their word. If I say I will do something, its as good as done. Never commit to a deal you can't complete. My parents came from nothing and built their wealth through hard work, taking risks, and perseverance. They did a great job teaching me from an early age how to be responsible and I am extremely greatful to them.
  19. Monmouth arms (remixer on njgf) has one in stock nj compliant for a good price. Pm him. That being said you can easily build an ar to your specs for the same or less than buying factory. Just dont expect the resale value on a built rifle to be the same as a factory one.

    LEO Ammunition?

I use federal hst for hd, but im no leo or an expert. The stuff is just very reliable and accurate from what I have found.
  21. Great points in here, I have/had owned a ta31, ta11, and several variable optics. I sold the ta31 bc of the eye relief, was not aware of the spacer to fix the issue. I currently have 2 ta11s, one chevron and one horseshoe. The eye relief is much better imo, I shoot them with both eyes open no issues, and for out to 300yd body size quick shots I think they are great. These will stay on their respective rifles. That being said the vortex variable optics are excellent for the price. As stated the diopter is a huge plus for ppl with eye issues (me) when looking for precision shots and the reticles they offer are also more adept at precision shooting. I dont think they are quite as indestructible as the acog though. One point I would like to disagree with Vlad on is price point. The street price on the acogs has gone down considerably in the last few years. All three I have bought were under $900, two were under $800. The vortex gen 2 1-6 even at rock bottom price is $1200 and the other comparable scopes are more than that. The only exception is the swfa 1-6 priced at 1k. Not that its a huge difference but a few hundred bucks is still a few hundred bucks, especially since its gona be another $150 for a scope mount and the acog comes with one. Fyi I will echo Vlad in that the vortex gen 2 1-6 is a fine optic and a great option for medium range shooting if you have the $.
  22. Lead reclamation needs to be completed on both rifle ranges and shotgun range in the next few years I believe. Cost is partially offset by the company selling the reclaimed lead.
  23. Sorry for all the posts but two more things...yes metsfan its disconcerting that as a new member all this is going on. There is alot of money being moved around and it all needs to be accounted for. Second is if Byron actually took $102k/yr the last few years as a management fee he better answer for that and explain on a line item basis why every project went over budget.
  24. Oh and the lead reclamation that needs to be done is projected to cost about whats in our bank account...yes we will have dues and new members but its gona take a chunk out of the acount or cost us all an assessment.
