DC Handgun Carry Ban Overturned!
ryan_j replied to maintenanceguy's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
I'm now reminded of why I cut down my posting here. Too many negative nellies who seem to enjoy NJ defeat and have zero idea of how the system works. FWIW, Chief Lanier has instructed the DC police to stop enforcing the carry ban. Strike one. She also instructed DC police to recognize ALL out of state carry permits. Strike two. You think they'll appeal? Maybe, maybe not. Sheriff Gore in San Diego pretty much said, "I'm done" when Peruta came down. NJ will get its day. One day, and one day soon. Very, very soon. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes and some in plain sight. Either you help, or get out of the way. -
DC Handgun Carry Ban Overturned!

I have to disagree with you here. While may-issue was not being argued, they extensively cited Peruta and the original Heller decision. Specifically, the decision pointed out that the 2nd amendment right to bear arms was the right to "carry for a particular purpose - confrontation." Sure, they can have may-issue if they want. But if SCOTUS rules in line with Peruta, they will have to accept "self defense" as a good cause (or justifiable need, or good and substantial cause) for obtaining a permit to carry. It will be may-issue like Connecticut, which is very much a may-issue jurisdiction, but they operate like a shall-issue one in practice. -
DC Handgun Carry Ban Overturned!
ryan_j replied to maintenanceguy's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
It would appear so. "Furthermore, this injunction prohibits the District from completely banning the carrying of handguns in public for self-defense by otherwise qualified non-residents based solely on the fact that they are not residents of the District." -
DC Handgun Carry Ban Overturned!

It might have some good impact for us. However this is a district ruling. It will probably be appealed to the federal circuit. I don't know if DC will get a stay or not while it's being appealed. This may ultimately reach SCOTUS, or a similar case will. Hopefully they don't get a stay and DC constitutional carry remains intact. I have a road trip to VA and WV coming up and I'd love to stop off in DC. Just gotta remember to bring the small gun with the legal (less than 10 round) magazine. -
Great Conceal Carry Discussion on Fox

There's a companion article too. http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/the-five/article/2014/07/22/gutfeld-why-media-hate-concealed-carry-laws -

Do you really want to endure a trial if your life is not in danger? Think of all the crap that George Zimmerman got. If your life is not in danger you will probably be found guilty of murder in NJ. In a state like Texas you can defend property with your firearm but you will still be subjected to civil lawsuits and other headaches. "Stuff" is not worth it. My daily driver is 10 years old, if they want it, they can have it! Insurance can pay for new stuff.

Honestly I wouldn't even consider deadly force unless I thought my own life or my family's life was in danger and we had no means of avoiding it other than shooting the assailant. That I think is the safest rule to live by in NJ.

Wasn't there a guy who got his LTCF revoked for shooting someone who was trying to break into his car?

Sussex Rural Co-op installs Cummins-Onan. They are pretty decent generators.

Forget OGAM, How About One Gun Every 90 Days
ryan_j replied to njpilot's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
Maybe not again. IIRC, Chug-a-lug tried it and was slapped down. This is how we ended up with the OGAM law. -
Moving to NJ from IN. Have guns. Any advice?
ryan_j replied to Ominius's topic in Firearm Hobby / Sport Discussion
IF you move to NJ - Register to vote, join ANJRPC, listen to Gun for Hire Radio every week and help us fix the problem. I'm not kidding. Sure, "move to PA" might be an easy way out, if that's what you're looking for. -

Yeah. The OGAM is not as much a big deal as the permit to purchase time is. It takes 6 months here to get a permit. -
Anyone fly out of Trenton/Frontier Airlines with guns yet?
ryan_j replied to Maksim's topic in General Discussion
It's not THAT recent. The Revell ruling is a few years old. -
Be nice. Something simple like this is what I wrote: Please support HB2398, universal recognition of licenses to carry firearms. This bill would help to enhance the safety of both Pennsylvanians and visitors to the state and I would really appreciate if you supported it. Thank you. As mipafox said, keep it short and to the point. Anything beyond a few lines wastes time and effort. Most likely the PA legislature is on board with this, and it shouldn't have a hard time passing. Don't make threats, don't offer a long explanation, don't give your life story, don't tell them how NJ sucks. Just ask for support and BE NICE.

Target Shooting as a Church Group Activity?
ryan_j replied to Teky0101's topic in General Discussion
Anthony pretty much regularly has groups of orthodox Jews at the Woodland Park range. They come in vans from NYC, probably associated with a synagogue. Maybe you can ask him how they coordinate it. -

ryan_j replied to Maksim's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't matter. Both your guns can be in the same bag. Check airline policy, some limit the number of firearms you can fly with. But no, airlines don't check who owns the gun nor who it's registered to. The TSA rules are real simple - declared to the airline (with declaration tag in your bag), gun(s) in locked case(s) and unloaded. It's airline policy that can be difficult to navigate, but not really. Most are concerned with TSA policy and the amount of ammo you can travel with, usually 11lbs. The only places people get jacked up and scrutinized are places like NYC, Boston, Chicago and sometimes Newark. In NYC they automatically call the PAPD every time someone checks a gun. -

Interesting. So how exactly have residents been flying out of NJ airports with guns all along? Sheer grace of God? Admittedly I have never flown out of a NJ airport with a handgun. Only PA, CT, TX, GA and FL. ABE is about the same distance as EWR for me anyway and I hate the long TSA line, parking and having to use the god awful shuttle bus. So ABE it is. -

No it ain't. NJSP don't ask me for notarized anything. -
Another Victim of Senseless NJ Laws
ryan_j replied to Newtonian's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
Sure. We need a case, and we need SCOTUS to hear it. They've ducked us so far. That is the problem. I have a feeling Pantano would have put the state in a pickle because of what you said which is why Rabner DIGed it once CC reappointed him. Nappen expanded the argument to challenge the whole scheme, not just right to carry. Look at what is happening in DC with Palmer. They are just sitting on it, because they know they have to rule in our favor.
