  1. CZ75B.....or CZ75 SP-01 for the 9mm.....DUH! For 1911s, I'll let others guide you. Nice choice for first hamdgun.
  2. So I ended up using my last permit on...........an additional Ruger GP 100. I found a good deal on Kentucky Gun Company for $565 shipped. I listed my. 327 GP100 o GunBroker after watching what they were selling for. I sold it for $750 plus $35 s/h which is $200 more than I paid. I have seen them selling for NIB for between $800 - $1,100 dollars! Looking forward to breaking in the trigger on another Ruger GP100! Looks like the 22 will have to wait until next year. Any newbies I take to the range will have to deal with shooting 38s through the 357. All in all I rather pleased with my small, but growing, selection. Considering my first purchase was in June I guess a Ruger GP100 and a CZ75-B isn't too bad of an entry into firearms. Now I just need to settle on a shotgun (probably a Mossberg 500) and then do lots of reading on the AR and then perhaps I'll be done for a bit.....maybe.
  3. That doesn't sound good! Can you share what happened? Why were they at your house and why did they want to see your guns? Probably just jealous.
  4. Security Door Questions: Approximate cost for a decent security door? By decent I mean will deter most casual intruders and make them want to move on to an easier target, I don't need to stop a SWAT team. In a SHTF scenario I'm bugging out to less populated area, not fortifying and defending. Self install or professional install? If professional install, approx how much per door? Where Does One Purchase? Home Depot / Lowes has then from $65 - $700 dollars. Are they decent or look else where? Recommend some places. Door is only as good as the lock. I already have the two sided key required for both sides dead bolt. I realize no lock is going to stop a professional determined thief but what is a good quality lock that won't break the bank. Lighting - after dark porch lights are left on. Need to improve short walkway up to front door with lighting, driveway on the side of the house with lighting and side yard. Neighbors are close so can't be too overpowering. What do you recommend?
  5. I've often seen fox coming home from my in-laws' house in Warren (Somerset County) after a late night of watching boxing with my father in-law. Few years ago they had a black bear wandering around.
  6. Great price for that one! Good buy! Enjoy.
  7. IF that happened it has to be a violation of something....in addition to common sense. That's the same as someone being told, "You have the right to vote but your candidate has no chance of winning so we won't take your voting ballot because it would be waste of our time to count it How about you just stay home on election day?." If that were to happen I would think one may want to take out their phone/camera, notify them that they are being recorded and politely tell them again that you would like to submit your application.
  8. Far from perfect but how is this for a start: In response to recent public mass shootings, in particular the recent event of an armed person walking into Paramus Mall and opening fire, I feel it necessary to be able to defend my life and the lives of my family in a reasonable manner. Newtonian, we know it has been tried numerous times. The point is if the numbers go from the State approves almost all requests for CCW to the State approving a much, much lower percentage of such requests. It can then be brought to attention that NJ isn't really issuing any CCW permits excepy to a privleged class (armed security guards, etc) and the ordinary citizens are having their rights violated by the law.
  9. i would be interested in learning more about "hardening" my home. I think everyone would benefit from information on good quality doors, locks, alarms (everything from small portable alarms to entire home security systems), motion detecting lights, etc.
  10. The cost of joining a range will be nominal compared to the money you will want to spend after trying various guns from friendly members of that range. Save money...DON'T JOIN A RANGE!
  11. And when will you be at EFGA??? Congrats, very nice looking.
  12. Read through this thread: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/62769-nj-ccw-question/ Participate in the discussion and on 1/1/14 try to make a difference.
  13. How about using New Years Day as the day to encourage people to go apply We could encourage everyone to go starting New Years Day to usher in a new year, and hopefully, a new era. I would be interested in participating. I have been thinking about doing it for some time but never had because of the oft cited, "Why bother, you are just going to get turned down." thinking/mentality.
  14. Nice! Thanks for the heads up.
  15. Don't join EFGA! Place is aweful. Every one is so frggin' nice it's disgusting. Always offering to let you shoot their guns...members meeting you there to let you try something your thinking about buying. STAY AWAY!! Place is going to get too crowded!
  16. Exactly. From my very limited reading the majority of the defense of the state seems to be "We approve 95% of concealed weapon permits." so therefore there isn't a problem.... and no need to change the law. Of course the percentage is so high because ordinary citizens feel that they will just be rejected so why bother? Well, start bothering! Anyone who wants to have the ability to be able to defend themselves, God forbid they should ever need to do so, should spread the word that EVERY such person needs to apply for a CCW permit. Once the percentage changes from "We approve 95%." to "We only approve 5%" then there is an issue and it needs to be addressed. This situation is very similar to one of the reasons I never applied for my FID years and years ago. I was incorrectly told that it was going to cost me several hundred dollars in application fees and costs just to apply for a FID. So my attiutde was that while I would have liked to apply for a FID and purchase a gun, why bother if it is so cost prohibitive? Many years later, after speaking with a the wife of a very profirearms family I was told the exact opposite.....that in fact it only cost about $75 ($50 finger printing, $18, background check and $2 per pistol permit) and that she used a gun to scare off burglars that had broken into her house while just she and her 2 small children were home......changed my attitiude. A few months later I had my FID and first firearm. It is our responsibility as responsible firearm owners to counter such misinformation and manipulation of "information that everyone knows". So please, reach out to your friends on this and any other NJ firearm forum and let people know.
  17. I didn't know about it. I'm sure there are many others that don't as well. I just IMed six people I have met & shot with since joining the forum. If 2 of them read the link and hadn't heard of the case and forward it on to six (or whatever number) of people they know and ask them if they have heard about it and 1 or two of them haven't and do the same......well, you get the picture. I encourage everyone to do the same. Many on here are new to firearms and may not know about this. Reach to your shooting buddies, especially the newbies you've met and shared your guns with and inform them....it takes less than 15 mintues and even a caveman can do it!
  18. When is the Pantano case set to be heard/tried? Is it too late to make a difference? If not then why not contact his attorney, Evan Nappen, and see if he would be speak to an audience on the topic. As far as organizing a movement we have all the power to do so. This forum has hundred of members and I'm sure there are other NJ based pro-firearm forums that have hundreds of members....and all those members probably shoot at a gun club/range. Why not get organized, choose a date and have several hundred people apply for a CCW. Their reason for applying is that due to recent violent public events they are concerned about their individual safety and they feel they require a CCW to have the ability to protect themselve while in public. I'm new to firearms, as are many on this forum. I've never heard of the Pantano case and I'm sure that many others haven't eithter. I haven't applied for a CCW for exactly the reasons cited....'Why bother, you'll just get turned down." I think we all need to start talking with our shooting buddies and ask if the've heard of the case and what do they think about trying to do something/getting organized. I'm going to do just that right now.....IM 3 people you know on the forum and ask them if they have heard about this case. Ask them what they think....get a discussion going. Link this thread in your IM to them....
  19. This...buy a gently used car that somebody else paid the deprecation for. When buying a new car you immediately lose like 10% the moment you drive it off the lot. I say buy a 3-5 year old car with low milage. If buying used and you are going to finance part of it, shop around at banks for a loan with a favorable rate and line up financing before heading to a dealership. If you want to save even more, purchase from a private seller (non-dealer). Just make sure owner is okay with taking car to mechanic (of your choice) to have checked out. My 2nd to last car I did this and saved tons. Drove the thing until it was almost unsafe and then got rid of it. I think dealer gave me $1k in trade in...thing was beat to hell, I had like 5% left on rear breaks & no front breaks, had a dent in rear bumper that I never had fixed (insurance company gave me $3,500 to fix it & never did). I think I paid $5k for that car about 12 years ago. Drove it for 5 years and hardly put a cent into it. Nice used cars rule. There are plenty of deal out there. If you can hold out a little longer I think November & December are suppossed to be some of the best months to go car shopping because nobody else really is and dealers want to move stuff. What are you thinking about getting? Good luck!
  20. Those look nice....adding to my Christmas list....
  21. Bueller.....Buller?? LOL. Did you go Turkey hunting yet? If so, any luck?
  22. Cigar night at JR Cigars in Whippany? http://www.jrwhippany.com/ Let's make it happen..... That $29.99 deal sounds really good! If you are ever near Selma, NC, perhaps going on vacation to Myrle Beach or Charleston, stop at the JR's right off of 95....place is ganormous!
