Last night once again I heard shots (3). I didn't hear about any incidences this a.m., so it was probably some poachers lighting deer from their truck, but nonetheless I picked up my AR from behind the couch and kept it on my lap the rest of the night.

Went out yesterday in the wind and the sqaulls and got pretty beat up - a helluva trip. Got three shorts and missed a few hook-ups, but I discovered a couple new micro spots. I tell my son every trip out you learn something, or catch, or both, so every trip is a good one.

Edit: for some reason the 243 just appealed to me as soon as I read about it. It's based on the 30-30 cartridge right? I can't wait to shoot it on my 300y range...

Thanks all, yes, I was looking to round out my collection with an accurate long range scoped rifle for deer. I just automatically went for autoloader, but you guys are right, there's no need and I didn't know they are illegal for hunting in PA. Is a Browning worth >2x the price of a Ruger American?

I'm thinking about a .243 for my next purchase. Something small and light, prfereably an autoloader. Any recommendations?

Yikes, I put 24 rounds of .44 mag through my carbine the other day and my right middle finger was sore from the loop kicking against it (shoulder was OK though). Should I be pressing the butt into my shoulder more?
