  1. I mailed mine on 10/24 and received it on 12/27. The holidays may have slowed things a bit.
  2. Pleased to share that in addition to my recently acquired NH permit, I today passed the Texas License to Carry class while here in Dallas for a work assignment. (Refer to my thread in the Training forum for details.) Significant in the event the new PA AG terminates recognition of NH.
  3. My trip worked out and I am pleased to say that I passed the LTC class today here in Dallas. Was 5 hours of classroom time, followed by a 25 question written test, then the 50 shot shooting proficiency test at a nearby range. Once I get back home in about a week, I will provide details on the end to end application process. For those curious about the shooting portion, there are a variety of videos available on Youtube. The primary significance to me of obtaining the Texas LTC permit is that it is recognized by Pennsylvania. The class must be taken in Texas. It will round out my "collection" of non-resident permits, the others being NH, Florida, and Utah.
  4. NJ.COM is now reporting it. Basically quoting the police article. However, on my screen at least, in the middle of the wording, there is an inset box where they also bring up the suicides that have occured at NJ gun ranges. http://www.nj.com/ocean/index.ssf/2017/01/pistol_range_employee_shot_himself_in_the_hand_pol.html#incart_river_index
  5. As a member who was there with my son a week ago; I am very disappointed to hear this happened. Inexcusable for all the reasons stated above.
  6. Thanks for the info. I have reserved a class with DFW Concealed Carry not far from DFW airport . Will let you know how things work out. Also setup my appt with Identogo/MorphoTrust, also near DFW. And firstly, filled out my LTC application online with the Texas Dept of Public Safety. Keeping my fingers crossed this trip works out and also that I pass the shooting qualification portion of the class.
  7. Just learned that I will be going to Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas next week for 10 days for work. I plan to get my Texas License to Carry while there (formerly known as a CHL). I have today submitted my non-resident application online at the Texas Dept of Safety website and am in the process of scheduling an appointment with Identogo/MorphoTrust(in Texas). My question is has anyone here done this in the DFW area and have any recommendations for a training facility. I did find several thru a Google search but wanted to check here for any recommendations. Once I complete this process I will post a full write-up. Thanks
  8. My advice. Relying on your kids to not be able to rack the slide is a major mistake. The time will come when they can and you won' t necessarily know when that point comes. I have some difficulty racking my Glock 19 due to arthritis. I never thought my 6 year old (almost 7) would be able to. However he recently was able to do just that several times(unloaded, under my supervision, etc.) I keep my handguns in a Fort Knox Pistol Box. Simplex lock that supports complex combinations ( eg 3, 1+4, 2). Built like a tank. Weighs 22 lbs empty. Just purchased another one (gunsafesamerica.com) for the lower floor of my home. As far as guessing the combination is concerned, one option is to change it periodically, much like best practice with computer passwords. I have also begun teaching my grandson the safe and responsible handling of firearms. Eg Eddie Eagle, if you see a gun, dont touch it, leave the room, tell an adult, etc. I have assured him that I would show him my firearms anytime under my supervision if he wanted to see or handle them. (Safety checked, ammo locked away, ...). That has satisfied his curiosity and is teaching him to respect firearms. I plan on taking him to an outdoor range in the spring to shoot for the first time. In the meantime, he has amassed an impressive Nerf gun collection. Hope this helps
  9. Yes, continued patience is called for. On a related note, I was just informed by my employer this afternoon that I may be traveling to Dallas for a two week assignment in early January. If confirmed,I hope to fit in a Texas Non-Resident class while there.
  10. Application mailed 10/24. Check cashed 12/19. Mailed by State of NH and postmarked 12/22/2016. Received my "Non-Resident Pistol/Revolver License" on 12/27/2016. "Expires 3/31/2021"
  11. If you enjoy shooting while in NC, by all means take your firearms with you. Is there a special reason you are staying at that particular hotel in MD? Why not drive a little further and stay in Virginia?
  12. Application mailed 10/24. Check cashed 12/19. Will be watching my mailbox closely.
  13. Just saw this moments ago. Was very moved by it. Thought I would share it. Once a Marine, always a Marine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gml0x5UVBl8
  14. You are two weeks behind me. I applied in 10/24 and am waiting. Will update this thread as soon as I have an update.
  15. I applied on 10/24, so waiting almost 5 weeks so far. Hoping to see my check clear this week. Anyone else have any recent activity?
  16. Thanks for the link. A good reference in general and for the specific firearms contained within it. Another very interesting and comprehensive document is "The American Shotgun" by Charles Askins, written in 1910. https://archive.org/details/americanshotgun00aski Recommend you select the "B/W PDF" download option.
  17. The Hazlet Costco has one pallet of these as of an hour ago. Approx 100 sets(1 50 cal & 1 30 cal) left. On sale for $14.99 for each pair. They had these about a month ago but quickly sold out. Didn't expect to see them ever gain.
  18. If you use the same password on multiple sites, I recommend you make them unique and hard to guess. To keep track of the hundreds of passwords in my life, I use a simple utility called Keepass to store them in an encrypted file. So at a minimum, I just need to memorize the master password I use within Keepass.
  19. Besides a M&P 22 and Ruger GP100 22lr, I have three Glocks, a G26, G19, and a G34 MOS; all stock 9mm. Availability and cost of ammo, the need to stockpile only a few calibers, interchangability of magazines and parts, etc were all considerations in my choices.
  20. ^^^^^^ Was closely following this as well and even donated to Rafferty. Apparently, Bloomberg out donated me ☹️. With Trump's win, coupled with Republicans retaining control of the House and Senate, hopefully we have a good chance of seeing National Reciprocity passed.
  21. Angelo, good thread. I always enjoy ammo stockpile threads and videos, lol. The implications of 1) the presidential election, 2) upcoming NJ governor election, and 3) the dormant but awaken anytime smart gun law; have been very much on my mind for the last several years. As such I have prepared accordingly over this period and have what I believe is an "adequate" number of firearms, magazines, and ammunition for my needs. Given this is a public forum, that is about as specific as I want to get.
  22. Carcano, refer to the thread entitled "Meanwhile in New Hampshire". 18 pages of posts so far and counting. Happy reading. P.s. Sent in my application last week.
