  1. Yep.. I can't see how a rifle would be better than a handgun for ease of use inside, unless someone lived in a 30,000 sq. ft. house, where each room was 60 feet across and you had large open areas. In most houses, you'd be moving around, turning corners, in and out of doorways, etc., and trying to swing a rifle barrel around all these obstacles while attempting to target a bad guy, can be a challenge. In *my* scenario, my home layout, a handgun is a better choice, for a few reasons. I know my layout and furniture placement, where the bad guy doesn't. So, I know where I can get cover if needed or be strategic on how I move around. It's a lot easier to handle a handgun in a fluid, high stress, active situation like that. And, if I get jumped, caught off guard, pushed or knocked down by the bad guy, I can fire from a low ready position, on my back, or any place in between. I won't need to be over the sights to get rounds off in defense. Which is why I run a laser instead of a weapon light...
  2. So, why wouldn't you want one on a end gable Pulling air in from the outside instead of exhausting it out?
  3. Don't you just love when their hypocrisy turns around and bites them in their own ass? Now the Governor is requesting help for this "dire situation". Gee honey, you didn't think it was a dire situation a few months ago... Trump should tell her now, "sorry, can't help, we're stretched thin and moved your support to another region". Begging For Help: NM Gov Changing Her Tune On Immigration "Crisis" ...." The radical-leftist governor of New Mexico, who sent National Guard troops packing in February, needs federal help now, it seems. She’s in the Swamp to beg for funding as illegal immigrants overwhelm the state. After months of neglecting the border cities and towns, toeing the DC elite party line of no “crisis” here, and facing a veritable citizens’ revolt in the Land of Enchantment, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is demanding federal government assistance for the dire situation – one she exacerbated through indifference to constituents. In February, Grisham made national news for thumbing her nose at the president, her citizens, and national security when she sent the National Guard packing. She blithely stated: “New Mexico will not take part in the president’s charade of border fear-mongering,” and received a blast of positive kudos from Democrat toadies in the Swamp. It fit their narrative perfectly and from a border state to boot. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-05-25/begging-help-nm-gov-changing-her-tune-immigration-crisis
  4. Exactly right, and considering like 45% drop out and don't graduate, it ends up being a whole lot of money spent for zero return. Not every kid is college material and should go. Read that again, 45% fail to get a college degree after 6 years in school. Here's another statistic, like only 20% of kids graduate after 4 years, so the odds are, your kid will be going for at least 5 years. Make sure to tack on those costs... you aren't going to pay for just 4 years... That's why it takes a complete shift in thinking, instead of thinking I need to save $100K to pay for junior's college, the focus needs to be on, how can he get an education at the LEAST cost!! The focus needs to be on FINDING money: scholarships, grants, tuition reimbursement plans, etc. Plus, a plan needs to be made to keep costs low. Send the kid to community college the first two years. You'll find out quickly if he's college material before blowing $25K minimum a year at a four year school. Kids DO NOT need to live at school, talk about throwing away money. They certainly AREN'T studying all that time. Let the kid commute to school, stack all his classes up on two or three days, so he can go work part time the other days and make money to pay for it. Lastly, the NUMBER ONE RULE TO REMEMBER.... College is a business, it's their goal to keep your kid there as long as possible, to keep extracting dollars from you. Always remember, they DON'T have YOUR best interests at heart, they have THEIRS, and taking as much of your money as possible is their plan. Final note, and this should piss some people off, but here goes. The parents should NOT pay for junior's college tuition. It's not the parent's responsibility, since the college degree only benefits the kid. The parent's responsibility is get the kid graduated from high school. That's it. Plus, the kid needs major skin in the game, by making the kid pay for his college, puts him on the hook, makes him responsible, and will make him think twice when he's failing a course, knowing HE'S paying for it the second time. It doesn't get any more Socialist than giving a kid a free ride with his college expenses on your dime.
  5. I'm sure this was done by law abiding citizens with their legal 10 round mags, while legally carrying with their state issued CCW permits.... right? OK, that's great... the police director knows what's going on, it seems... But wait... Oops.. apparently the mayor didn't get the memo from his police director on where the REAL problem is.. https://www.nj.com/news/2019/05/30-shots-fired-in-drive-by-shooting-that-injured-10-outside-trenton-bar.html Democrats, they just live in some sort of alternative reality....
  6. It really wouldn't matter, the goal is to get the hot air out. A fan would force it out much better then that passive system. I wouldn't recommend that. Specially if they are thermostat controlled. It could potentially pressurize the attic. Better option to go with the gable fan is to cut in some additional soffit vents, this way cooler air is pulled from bottom and hot is exhausted out the top.
  7. I would consider the gable vent fan. No hole in roof, low cost and easy to install and repair.
  8. Nope, you're correct. They're just trying to make it a big retail spending day. As a side note, during the parade on Monday, none of the fire trucks or police cars are allowed to blast their sirens, as they consider it a solemn day, and NOT a day of celebration.
  9. Wait... what??? You're a guy right?? This is the right of passage, driving like an idiot when first getting your license... Hell, I had some of my best wrecks the first year or two of driving... I was on first name basis with the guy at the bone yard, since I was there so frequently buying parts..
  10. Of course it makes sense (and dollars) to register the car in their name and insure it in their name. This gives a "legal" separation between the parents and the kid. If they are in a accident, will the lawyer try to drag the parents in? Most definitely, because that's where the money is. But that will be quickly slapped down... But, which is easier to defend by the parents lawyer, where the kid is legally separated from the parents or on their parents policy driving the parent's car. It's a no brainer. Yes, a umbrella policy is a must have for MANY reasons, not just a young driver. But, that isn't surefire either, depending on the lawsuit, a few million in a umbrella policy can vaporize really quickly. That's why it's better to separate the liability with the young driver as best as possible.. That is, unless you don't mind losing all your guns (and the rest of your personal belongings and house) when being sued....
  11. Yes, I'm brutal... it's called being a parent and NOT their best friend. It's called making them responsible for their actions, and not let them hide under mom's apron. Problem number 2. What did you expect insurance to be on a NEW car. He should be driving a $1500 clunker or a used hand me down, because he'll crash it, almost guaranteed. Sorry, it's the same... hasn't changed much, except the price of the cars that some people think junior "deserves". It's so expensive, because it's a new car that's financed... Get rid of collision.. oh wait, you can't, it's financed and costs a lot to fix. You got that part correct, now apply that to the rest...
  12. You're thinking correctly. First, get her a clunker to beat up. The odds are, most have some sort of fender bender their first year driving. Get a throw away car... too bad if she doesn't like it.. Second, put her on her own policy, not yours. Yes, it will cost more because of her age, but look at the big picture, is it better to spend an extra thousand up front for her insurance, or get sued for tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands when she runs over a little old lady? Third, SHE needs to pay for her gas and insurance, or pay for as much as possible. She needs skin in the game and realize driving is a privilege, and there are costs associated to it. Mommy and Daddy aren't her never ending bank account.
  13. I could write a book... I have three that went to college, 5 degrees between the three.. I paid very little towards their college expenses, and the most any of them owed when graduated was like $27K. and they weren't great students, one took 6 years, the other took 5 years. The key is to change your focus, it's not trying to figure out how to save tons of money to pay for college. The key is to figure out how to get a college education at the lowest, out of pocket cost. Big difference...
  14. I'm not sure I would consider it "exotic"... Ha... I was going to reference that location originally, when wondering about recipes, but I didn't want to come off as a racist.
  15. Well, it looks like it's not just students and snowflakes... Four in 10 Americans Embrace Some Form of Socialism WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans today are more closely divided than they were earlier in the last century when asked whether some form of socialism would be a good or bad thing for the country. While 51% of U.S. adults say socialism would be a bad thing for the country, 43% believe it would be a good thing. Those results contrast with a 1942 Roper/Fortune survey that found 40% describing socialism as a bad thing, 25% a good thing and 34% not having an opinion. https://news.gallup.com/poll/257639/four-americans-embrace-form-socialism.aspx
  16. I'd agree with that. Primarily because he might know where the cable is buried, but the next owner won't, so hitting the conduit while digging, instead of going through the actual wire, might prevent a fireworks show..... or worse...
  17. True, Labs are great hunters. The breeder where I got him (and my other two previous Labs) raised both family Labs and Bird dogs. To see the difference in the temperament was amazing. The family Labs were friendly and playful, the bird dogs were absolutely crazy, jumping 6 feet straight up in their cages and totally bonkers. I'm not interested in hunting, so we're not training for that. He's on a triple track training program, he finished Therapy Dog training, we're working on Search and Rescue now, and trying to lock in a trainer for Personal Protection. The first two he's done well with so far, the last one will take some time. It's tough to get him to look and act "mean" when he's so damn friendly, and wants to kiss people to death... Personal Protection is going to take some time, it appears...
  18. Ahhhhh... that explains some of your posts....
  19. That's a good point, and along that thinking, I got this email a little while ago from Camping World. It's a petition they want people to sign. What do you think? Let Camping World & Gander Outdoors Fly The American Flag! The City of Statesville has filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to require Gander RV in Statesville, NC to take down their American Flag. They are imposing a $50/day fine retroactive to 10/15/18. Many cities like Statesville have requested that Camping World and Gander Outdoors take down their American Flags. WE WON'T DO IT! Stand with us. This is about more than just the flag. This is about our Veterans, Military, and the men and women that have sacrificed for this great country. They are the reason we fly the flag and they are the reason we will NOT take it down! https://www.change.org/p/city-of-statesville-north-carolina-let-gander-rv-fly-the-american-flag?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=p-052019&utm_term=go&scpc=FR064993
  20. Damn, so you're telling me I'm living with a Liberal?? Crap, well, I know what we're putting on the grill tomorrow. Anyone have a good recipe? What wine goes good with Lab steaks? Ha.. Only kidding.. I wouldn't do that to him, I have way too much money and time invested in him...
  21. His breed is originally from Newfoundland. Are they Liberal there?
  22. Just wondering... my pup wears a Blue Line flag patch on his harness and collar, out of respect for Police K9's lost in the line of duty. Does this patch on the picture below make him a Lib too?
  23. You mean just like with weapon lights?
  24. That's kinda what I was thinking too? Zombie shots at 200 yards? Taking out a neighbor down the street at 200 yards? Didn't think so. Most defensive uses would be even inside the 50 yard mark, or 10 or less like you mentioned.
