And yet the GFH page that Krdshrk linked to above:

NJ CCW Permit Information And Qualification Process

https://gunforhire.com/nj-ccw-permit/

lists the NRA CCW course in such a way as to suggest that it is certain to meet the NJ training requirements

"6- REQUIRED: Save your seat for the upcoming NJ CCW Qualification Course! Register Below! (The final Qual course details will be posted this coming week!)"

even though the details of those requirements seem to still be in considerable doubt because of the differences between the NJSP instructions "Applying for a Permit to Carry a Handgun"

https://www.nj.gov/njsp/firearms/pdf/Permit_to_Carry_Instructions_v1.pdf

and those listed in the Administrative Code 13:54-2.4 instructions for completing SP 640

https://regulations.justia.com/states/new-jersey/title-13/chapter-54/subchapter-2/section-13-54-2-4/

Probably just a product of the haste we all feel to start dealing with the change, but I do find it kind of ironic :)

I've started the application Where do we find our municipal code?

I heard NJSP is changing the app, they're no longer accepting the old one, and the new one will be out un two weeks...not sure how accurate that report was...

As for municipal codes you can Google and get a list of all the codes for NJ.

Link below. SInce this post is pinned, I've also attached the list in pdf file format as found at that link. If you do your own searching, be careful. I found at least one other allegedly official New Jersey list of municipal codes that are completely different. If some schmuck was looking for an excuse to reject an application, I'm sure having the incorrect muni code would be more than sufficient.

I was requested to cross-post this from the SCOTUS/Bruen thread in the National Laws section

I have no municipal PD, so I will be dealing with NJSP. The good news about that is that one step of the process and potential snags at that level are bypassed. The bad news is that NJSP will no doubt be doing exactly whatever His Majesty (in his own mind) Murphy I tells it to do through Plavin (or whoever his AG is at the time) incuding any tactics intended to delay and/or obstruct the process.

On Sunday, I called the NJSP field office responsible for my area (Woodbine) to request an identification number to be associated with fingerprints to be done by Sagem/Morpho/Morphotrak (it was posted by someone who claimed to be familiar with the current SP 640 process in the this thread that a fresh set of prints would be required along with the SP 640, and that the identification number, nominally issued by the local PD, would be required for the NJSP investigation to correlate those prints with the application). The desk sargent told me that he thought that the prints that I filed with the application for my 8 yo FPID card would be sufficient, and that he was not able to issue me an identification number for new prints for SP 640. AFAIK, he didn't lie to me about anything, but he clearly had no interest in helping me expedite the process, and he encouraged me to wait on my application until new requirements were published (he also told me there had already been extensive discussion within NJSP CoC about this, so I very much doubt he was improvising any of his answers). Now, in a state where 2A rights are respected and honored to any degree, that might seem to be good advice. In NJ, my best guess is that a hiatus is sought so that Murphy & co can concoct more and better ways to keep from issuing perrmits. When I have a few hours available to wait around on hold and get hung up on a couple of times, I'll try calling NJSP Frearms Division to ask for a fingerprint identification number to use with my SP 640, but I don't really expect any satisfaction there, either (just an enhanced sense of frustration).

I hope you logged the time and date of the call, a summary of the conversation (as above), and the name and badge number of the NJSP employee you spoke to, for possible "future use"... At least the desk sargent I spoke to the other day had enough sense not to outright lie to me...

Also, how are you certain that the instruction form is new? Do you have a copy of the previous version? If it is new since 6/23, the fact that it does not accurately reflect the NJ Adminstrative Code requirements for completing and submitting SP 640 could potentially be useful in litigation, should that ultimately prove to be necessary.

The form is dated on the NJSP website! Take a look. I have the old form as I did it and then had to Re-do it again today as they changed it around 9:30am. The new form removes the need / want verbiage.

Look at Form: SP642

stopped into lindenwold pd today. lady was nice. she wasn't too sure what all went with it. it is literally 2 pages only that she gave me.....one for the application, other for the references.

she was very polite, and tried to be informative, but also mentioned that she didn't think anyone should have a gun......it was a struggle to not be wise. but i wasn't.

He's assuming they will change, but at the moment they have not. I'm applying ASAP to try to get in before they move the goal posts

The "new" form is a friggin' joke, and a stupid, half-assed one, at that. They removed the "justifiable need" text box, and just rearranged the other fields on the form to take up the space. Everything else remains the same, including the instruction to "attach bond paper" if more space is needed. Yeah, that will work on-line, in FARS. NTM that while the moron who revised this took out the text box for describing the justifiable need, the check box for the judge's disapproval because of lack of same remains ("G"). Furthermore the NJSP page you linked to clearly correlates the Firearms ID card with FARS, but fails to make any mention of that system in conjunction with SP 642. This is the work of bozos. I, too, have completed my form, except for getting the endorsements signed, but I have no intention of switching to the new version yet, because I am almost certain that is going to change again, probably very soon.

Sounds like she's one of those "only the police should have guns" type of people.  :icon_rolleyes:

That's come up here somewhere and I too am curious what the current (right now) deal is.  I'll be talking to a friend who actually is one of those unicorn civilian permit holders (alarm company owner) soon.

I'm swaying between wait a while and do it now.

Agreed.  I see shenanigans ahead for those that apply right now.  Something to the effect of, "We're revising the process and will get back to you soon" type shit.  #FPM

My out of state permits that have photos are full-face only, as are NJDL and passports.
