Description

Pistol 101 (NRA-certified “First Steps Pistol” course

Description: A pistol, or handgun, is a firearm designed to be fired from one hand. While pistols are small and compact, they can be surprisingly challenging. In this course, NRA-certified instructors present lessons in general firearms safety, gun handling, the various types of pistols, the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship, various pistol firing positions, practical exercises on the firing range, cleaning, storage, and a summary of pistol sports and activities. All students receive the NRA's The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook.

Course Goal: To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and using a pistol safely.

Lessons: Pistol knowledge, safe gun handling, ammunition knowledge, fundamentals of pistol shooting, two-handed and one-handed standing shooting positions, firing the first shots (one pistol type only), cleaning, storage, pistol sports and activities.

Prerequisites: None. The material is suitable for all including appropriately supervised mature children.

Course Completion: Students will receive feedback on all live-fire exercises. Those who successfully pass the written and practical exam receive an NRA course-completion certificate and “Basic Practical” rocker upon successfully firing a qualifying “group.” This course satisfies practical requirements for the Florida non-resident concealed carry permit.

If you do not have a firearm, let us know. We can arrange use of a handgun to complete this course.
