NJ Deer hunting basics - Sunday October 28th

Recommended Posts

I know there was a lot of interest in this so I figured I'd bite the bullet and set something up. This will be the basic of the basic, geared towards those who don't have a clue where to start, so if you have been hunting before, you may find my 'seminar' boring. I will be focusing on shotgun hunting, and touching only briefly on blackpowder and archery. This will be my plan for the day...

-Meet at my house in Franklin Township(Somerset County) and go over my personal hunting equipment. I have always been frugal to the point of cheap so don't worry, I'm not going to tell you to buy a $400 set of scent blocking coveralls. I will also touch on some 'after the kill' points that you may find helpful.

-Drive to a local area(15 min away) that I have permission to hunt(this particular location does not permit Sunday hunting) where we will do some scouting in an area I have not walked, so you'll get a real-world idea of what to look for when doing your own scouting. Also, time permitting, I will show you my current stand in this area and point out why I selected the location that I did.

I would like to limit the group to approximately 4-5 people assuming there is even that many people interested and please be prepared to do some relatively easy hiking.

Again, don't expect anything more than a real basic overview to get you started hunting deer. I don't pretend to be an expert on the subject; I just have some knowledge that I feel I can pass along.
