danw77 13 Posted October 8, 2013 I'm looking to pick up a Mosin Nagant 91/30... I know, I'm a little late to the band wagon. There are plenty of them online, but I'd prefer to be able to pick one out in person. Anyone know who has good supply in stock in the Morris/Essex/Hunterdon/Somerset area for a fair price (I can't believe I'm saying this, but less than $200)? DeerSlayer 241 Posted October 8, 2013 I got two at a gun show two weeks ago. 91/30 all numbers matching and an M44 I plan to sporterize. Both guns together less than $400 with NICS and tax. Spend a Saturday roaming the tables you'll find what your looking for at the right price. Stick with Russian made if possible. Sent using Tapatalk 2 NOW FREE!!! maintenanceguy 510 Posted October 8, 2013 Bought a 1944 91/30 at Cabelas in Hamburg about 3 weeks ago. I paid $149. I think they were normally $169. They had at least 40 in the racks so I had lots to choose from.
junkmanted 54 Posted October 9, 2013 Sporterize an m44........ Shame on you + 1000 post pictures of the barrel markings to make sure its not a rare one
danw77 13 Posted October 9, 2013 Hmmm... now you guys got me thinking. I hadn't really read up on these as well as I should have. I'm probably more interested in an M38 or M44. From what I can tell, there aren't any differences between the three except for barrel length and bayonet. Is that correct?
DeerSlayer 241 Posted October 9, 2013 I'm going to drop in a timiney trigger, arch Angel stock, get a bent bolt, add a rail and some optics. All reversible if I want to bring it back to original. Its not a hex barrel receiver, nothing on the gun has the same numbers the whole reason I bought it. But the bore is excellent & Russian. Ive got a 91/30 and every number is same bolt, magazine door, butt plate, barrel. I'm keeping that one original. The M44 I picked out specifically to tear it apart and make a fun to shoot gun out of. A stock Mosin is heavy and a pain in the balls to load stripper clips. Cool to look at not fun in my opinion to lug around or shoot. I'll look at the 91/30 and use the M44. I wouldn't mind owning an original sniper if i can find one. Last show I was at had one with hex receiver and original scope not reproduction, they wanted $700. Sent using Tapatalk 2 NOW FREE!!! If your interested I have a t53 with bent bolt and timney trigger that I was building as a project that I could be persuaded to part with the whole thing or some pieces. The original stock is drilled out for the timney trigger(kinda crappy tho but locks up and shoots fine). I've put exactly 1 round down it until my extractor broke and I bought the sniper bolt
