My Dad died in the late 80s and my mother inherited his firearms. She wanted to be rid of them so I sold them at a local reputable gun store. When she died, we were cleaning out the house and lo and behold, we found yet another old 22 rimfire bolt action rifle. So far no problem. But my sister didn't want it and I live abroad (and no longer have no US address). So I gave it to my father in law to store until I could figure out what we should do with it, but we basically forgot about it. Well, he's on the far side of 90 and asked me if I could find somewhere else for it. Now I'm unsure what to do. I had a Firearms ID card decades ago, but I have no idea where it is. I would qualify for one (no legal issues) ... but I live abroad and have no US address. I hate to do it but the easiest is to surrender the thing during a US trip. How do I go about surrendering the rifle?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
