I have a ak stamped stock with plastic stock, and pistol grip. I'd like to remove all that and go to a wooden thumbhole stock with a proper rubber recoil pad and pretty wood. The Vepr wood stocks  sure look nice. I couldn't afford a Vepr or I'd have bought one. Is it practical to fit a beautiful  used wood Vepr stock to a stamped receiver ak? I'm poor and before I spend $60 on such a stock I'd like to know if it's even practical. I'll have to save up for months  to be able to buy the stock and don't want to waste my money on a impossible project. I'm not a weekend commando anymore and I'd like make my rifle prettier and more traditional and better suited for hunting and scope use. I used to have a mak90 I converted to a more traditional ak functionality. It was a better hunting rifle before I removed the thumbhole stock-I don't have the Norinco anymore-sold it in the 90s. I'd like to recreate that functionality and friendlier less military look. I know 7.62x39 isn't a a recoil beast but a generous rubver buttpad like on the Veper still would be nice. I recently had major rotator cuff arm & shoulder surgery and neck disc fusion surgery and I love how easy my  ak could be on my fragile arms and shoulders and neck. Semi-auto is the way to go for me. I used to hunt with the norinco in the 90s and found with handloads my  accuracy was enough that I was able to bag several deer and  antelope while not offending the 'fudds' with the look of my rifle. Now  I'm starting to win over my antigun wife over too ,but she hates my I/O s military look..Prettifying my ak will go a long way to pleasing her. Since it still would shoot the same ballastically, why not? Has anyone done this backwards conversion from the usual pattern?
