Mod 2 or just XD?  I personally think the XD Mod 2 is a great series of pistol and wouldn't hesitate to buy it - I am still debating and may still buy a Mod2 in .45ACP in the coming months - I like the ambidextrous controls, Xtension mag, I actually do like the Grip Zone, and the fiber optic front sight - its a good pistol for the money and what you get!

I also think the bi-tone models are super sharp!

mod 2. I'm looking for a pistol to shoot targets. I would like to get into some type of friendly competition shooting. Nothing like the serious shooters. just a friendly pie pan and pin shooting. Everything you pointed out is what attracted me to the MOD 2. My family members have sigs and kimbers and a couple glocks floating around. i would like to shoot the MOD 2 and see how it feels. Thanks for your feed back

^No problem man - let me know if you end up getting one what you think of it - if your LGS doesn't have it in stock then you can get it from Buds - only thing is if you are getting the 9mm you would probably want to order it from the LGS as he can modify the Xtension mag for 15 rounds (factory is 16 which I'm sure you know) - if you order from Buds they will only ship the Commie state version which is 2 - 10 rd mags - Ew.  - I'm also talking about the Subcompact by the way - I haven't looked into the 4" models but those are probably what you're looking into.

I'm looking at another .45 after I get my Glock and the Mod2 is one of the ones I'm considering, along with the PPQ 45.

I have the Mod2 9mm sub compact that I put close to 2k rounds through it without one malfunction.  I bought 2 extra 13 round mags with Pierce extensions.

Thanks. thats good to know. I'm really getting torn up about the pistol. I guess I'm really gonna have to test ride the Mod 2 and a Glock 19 and Glock 43.

i have to admit i do like the idea of having so many choices with the glock mods. All with in the same price area.

OK I kinda of had this dilemma recently, but what are you looking for in your pistol?  If you're not a cop you wouldn't be needing for a carry gun because you know it doesnt exist in this state lol - unless you do a lot of traveling and hold a FL or UT, etc non-resident permit, so most likely for range gun you'd want some decent 9mm capacity.

Are you looking at the Mod2 service model or the Subcompact 3" model?  I only ask because you mentioned Glock 19, which the 4" Mod2 service model is slightly larger than (more comparable to a Glock 17 in size) - the subcompact is smaller than the 19 obviously, but bigger than a Glock 26 which is the same dimensionally (except for thickness and weight) as a Glock 43.

Are you looking to add more Glocks in the future?  Yes their system works well as far as interchangeability goes, but the 43 is kind of in its own league being a single stack, you won't be using Glock 19 mags in it, etc.  Parts are not really that interchangeable with the double stack Glocks, for example Glock night sights are different on the 42/43.

Also take into account FFL compliance work.  EITHER XDMod2 you buy in 9mm will have to either have the Xtension mag modified for 15 rds (Subcompact) or both mags that it comes with modified for 15 rds (4" Service model) - shouldn't be much cost at your dealer, but something to keep in mind.  The 19 is compliant at 15 rounds out of the box.

Also take into account cost difference - Glock 19 street price usually around $550 or so, XD 4" service model approx $450, the Subcompact I've seen around $475 or so - so its dependent on your wallet.

If it were me and me first gun purchase was for range or home defense, I personally would probably steer away from a 43 as a sole firearm being a single stack 9mm - you can get the same capacity in a sturdy and reliable 2" 357/38 revolver (and probably $100 less as well) - especially if you aren't needing for carry purposes

For the money the XDM2's are great high quality guns with nice accessories in the box and I really like the fiber optic front sight as i'm cross dominant so the red up front really helps my sighting, go into your LGS and see if they have both in stock that you can hold and decide in person.  I still may add one in the coming months.

Just my 50cents worth, best of luck and hope it helps.

Mod 2 is a great weapon.  I have the 3.3" .45 as my off-duty, shoots very well out of the box, highly doubt you will be disappointed.  Like the others have said, some nice goodies in the box, fiber optic sight is great, lots of accessories available for it.  Flush mount mag is great for concealing, if you have the ability to carry.  I like the X-tension, gives a  full size grip to a compact weapon.  On the other hand, my first duty weapon was a gen 1 G23.  Shoots well, my original probably had close to 10,000 rounds through it over the course of 10 years.  I had one slide release spring break, and I honestly don't ever remember a fail to feed or fire.  Just issued a new gen 4 G23, had a couple fail to feeds, but mainly I think that was due to shooting before I had time to really disassemble and lube everything.  It really will come down to personal preference.  You have Glock guys, Sig guys, Springfield guys, etc.  Everyone tells you their particular weapon brand is the best.  Only you can make the final decision.  Go to a local and knowledgeable local gun shop and look at everything.  You might be surprised by what you see that you like and what feels comfortable.  Then check the ranges that rent weapons, and see if any have the ones you like if you don't know anyone who has that model.  Rent a few, shoot and see what you like.   I see you're in Monmouth County, check out Howell Gun Works, great guys, know their stuff, pretty good sized selection all the time, and they will take the time to educate you, just maybe not on a Saturday at noon!

If you keep an eye out on gunbroker, you'll occassionally run into OEM 15-round mags and I've gotten a couple there. Pro Mag makes a 15 round mag, but from what I understand from reviews, they're malfunction prone.

If you register with SA, occasionally you get a good email deal. Last one I got was 30% my entire order from the e-store. Picked up a bunch of 13 round factory mags.

^I agree - I've also heard that some of the XD's used to come with a promotion in the box where you could register your warranty and get a few free extra mags?  Not sure if they still do it - thanks for your impressions on the 3.3" 45, I'm debating whether I want to get that in bi-tone as my next 45 (and I definitely would carry it when I move out of this state in the coming months) or get the fuller sized PPQ 45 which I probably wouldn't carry when I move as its a bit large for me I think (5'7")

I'm going to throw my self on the floor and ask for mercy with the glock modding. My father is an old military vet so when i had said i was humoring the idea of a glock 43 for entry level comp shooting. longer slide for better sights. plus i see a couple of websites that i can have the slide milled out and trigger spring and other stuff. plus anodizing. The Glock seems like an all around weapon for what I'm looking to get into. Yes the its a little long but like it was stated its NJ, No one gets a CCW. As for home defense, i have two small kids so i would not even think to have a weapon accessible. Different topic for another day but we were raised around weapons and taught safety and respect of at an early age and when i think my kids are ready ill teach them.

You do hit a lot of the topics i was looking at. Thank you for your feed back

That good to hear. If you trust it as your off ODW, then i feel comfortable using it knock down targets. The more i read about what I'm looking to do with a pistol, the more I'm leaning toward the SA MOD 2

thanks for the heads up. ill keep that in mind

Good luck man let us know what you do!  I agree with teaching the young ones gun safety as soon as you can, you will know when the time is right (and its sooner than you think) -

I think we got our Glocks confused as you were talking about long slide - I think you mean the G34 which is the long slide 9mm model - I mentioned the G43 which is the subcompact, single stack 6+1 model which is same dimensionally as the 26 except thinner and a bit lighter.

thanks. i think I'm going to go with the 9mm xd mod 2. ammo is cheaper and the fact its a range weapon. Now its a matter of fading the time to go to a few ranges and A) see if they have the pistol and B) send a few down range and see how i feel.

thanks again
