  1. Dropped off the night of March 25th, picked up today. 31 days. Sgt Nassaur mentioned that he will renew them without me asking. I know my references got their letters within 2 days! -Dave
  2. Lake Island in Carteret is focused largely on youth shooting programs, leagues and travelling to competitions. It's their big thing. Cheap to join, nice people. Search forums and look for user "John Fox" who is one of the officers.
  3. This is exactly the shotgun I started with, and purchased for about the same price from the Rahway NJ FAG. I used it for about 4 years before I got good enough that I decided a fancier gun would make a difference. It's a great gun.
  4. Lake Island is a place I've always thought about, but I already belong to too many ranges. For indoors, I'm using Woodland Park Range, which is almost the same driving time (25-28 minutes). On the other hand, I've always thought my son might really enjoy the Junior shooting that Lake Island is famous for...
  5. Agreed. I usually either unfriend or ignore "friends" on FB who post crap like that more than once or twice. However, a lot of rational people are going to be sucked in by the "Everytown" concept and their propaganda.
  6. That makes perfect sense, and for someone with extensive experience as an RSO it would be perfect to do the course yourself. For me, although I have a ton of experience SHOOTING at ranges, the kinds of situations these guys brought up (from their actual experiences) boggled my mind and made me happy I took a good course (I took it at GFH, which was fantastic).
  7. I am active on FB. That's where I talk with all my friends. I know some of you hate FB, if so, just ignore the rest. Also, if you can't stand the NRA don't bother reading, either... Every once in a while one of my friends will post something anti-NRA, or these days pro-Everytown. Usually their posts are full of incorrect statements, but I've found that pointing out their errors doesn't work. So, I just post a short comment that they are incorrect, they should look up the facts themselves, and that every time one of my FB friends bashes the NRA I donate $100 to them (and $25 for followup comments). I then donate $100, and attach a screenshot of the donation (with the timestamp) to my comment. (You could do it with lower amounts, and I should probably lower my numbers). It blows their mind, and the usual response is to delete their FB post. It's fun, remove a lot of incorrect facts from the FB dialog, and make them realize the NRA isn't just a trade group propped up by the "gun lobby."
  8. Respectfully, this is completely correct, you can do the RSO yourself after BIT. However, I think it would be a bad idea if you want to be an RSO at any active place. The course I took in person for RSO was a chock-full 8 hours, and included role-playing scenarios that were very instructive and hard. I don't think it's quite the same as metallic reloading where if you know how to instruct and know how to reload you can probably teach it. RSO is different.
  9. I am CTO of a company with around 70 Apple computers all of which have wireless mice and many have wireless keyboards. So, we go through a lot of AA batteries. I have purchased one of these chargers, and around 180 of these batteries, and they are fantastic. Have not yet had a bad battery, they last as long as a normal Duracell AA battery, and some of them are close to 2 years old under heavy rotation: Charger: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UNPM3M/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Batteries: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AYO98O/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The Tenergy 2600mAh batteries are the ballz....
  10. Sussex County is different than central Union County. Average house time on market is hours. My friend has been trying to buy an expensive house in the Fanwood/Scotch Plains/Berkeley Heights/Warren area, and they have a hard time getting an offer down before someone else scoops up the house.
  11. I added Shooters to the NJGunMap website as well. http://njgunmap.com/ I need to make sure I remove a few old places.
  12. I think if their policies aren't working for you that you should call them and ask. They worked out an issue with me on my first order, and no problems. They appear to be a reasonably small company that's interested in providing excellent customer service. I wouldn't take what's on the website as carved in stone until you talk to them in person. -Dave
  13. I just placed my 4th or 5th order from them. No problem. Good prices, good ammo, free shipping. I had one concern with an earlier order and they were very nice and set things right.
  14. My membership was $250, IIRC. The platinum is more than that, but few people have those. Mostly what I like about GFH/WPR is the completely friendliness and professionalism of every single employee. I've never seen even the slightest hint of rudeness, shortness or any negative behavior from anyone there, and they must have 20+ people working there most of the time. After your second trip, the RSO's are more like helpful friends who keep out of your way than RSOs. It's much different that all the other ranges I've been to. Most ranges have some nice RSO's and some assholes. There are 0 of that kind at GFH.
  15. For the public it's $25/hour, for me as a member it's $10/hour on the 25-yard range. Just about the same price, and cheaper than other ranges in the immediate vicinity. There aren't really any "perks" or "elevated prices" - it's just a much nicer, brighter, wider and bigger range than some of the s-holes further south. I would never shoot indoors if I had to go there.
  16. I guess they changed when they moved across the road. Right before they moved they were really great to me, but things change. Thanks for letting us know.
  17. There is a paintball store on Rt 22 Eastbound in Greenbook called Godfather. They do more airsoft these days, but they know paintball guns and can certify, and fill, etc. However, I haven't been there since they moved across the road, so I'd call first. They are pretty close to Hillsborough.
  18. Here is my story. I used to own a Benelli supernova. I shot it a few times, including a couple of 3-gun events. I never loved it, and it is one of the very, very few guns I have ever sold. I recently decided I needed a shortish barreled pump shotgun, and got a Rem 870 Express Magpul. I love the thing. I look for excuses to take it to the range. It's fun and accurate. I love the ghost sights. So, for whatever it's worth, I vastly preferred the 870 over the SN, but that's just me. You are probably different.
  19. Nice, just a few doors down from Saly G's. Had dinner there Saturday night and it was fantastic.
  20. I bought 5x500 of the 40gr no problem at all. $5 shipping like always, so a good deal.
  21. I have never been asked for a handgun purchase permit there. In fact, I never have them as I usually leave them in the car. They are also not for transfers. For that, you want Gun For Hire at $20 including NICS for members...
  22. Got it! Your form will be sent to the NRA on Monday. Thanks for the chance to help.
  23. I only buy ammo from them when renting a gun, so I don't know how they price it. I do like being able to come straight there from work in NYC and shoot, though. I keep an extra set of eyes/ears in my commuting car in case I get the hankering for some shooting. I was actually there today around 3pm. I was the only person on the 50yd range for 30 minutes, and then another 2 guys joined me. It was very fun.
  24. CCI AR Tactical are my favorite 22LR round. $21 / box is pretty much old time pricing! Actually, I just looked up and I paid $24/box in May, 2011 from Cabelas. Nice.
  25. Ha, that's true! All those things together would be very powerful. Paypal or check in the mail is probably the way to go...
