  1. Get a Russian capture P38 for a shooter then. They are cheap and historical. I shoot my rc and the bring backs are safe queens
  2. Bore snakes are only good for an in the field or at the range quickie. 1pc rod, brushes a jag and patches if you care about the gun at all.
  3. Plugs are the way to go. Damn near impossible to get a proper cheek weld with muffs
  4. Nice gun. A sight hood isn't nessecary because all but the USMC ones were just to protect the front sight. The stock may need a coat of boiled linseed oil on it. A coat a day for a week, a coat a week for a month, a coat a month for a year, and a coat every year for the rest of the time you have the gun. And dude, that is one ugly rug.........
  5. I picked this up the other day for a steal and figured I would share a little. This is a 1903 sporter built by Harry Pope, the barrel god himself. If you aren't aware of Harry's work, he was the best barrel maker of the 20th century and many argue even today. His rifling was hand cut and he used an interesting rifling. It was progressive twist and his grooves were cup shaped rather than flat like most barrels. Many competitions were won with Pope rifles, several Olympic medals, and 2 world records. He only made 800 barrels and this is number 525, a Pope gun is a rarity and often commands a premium price. So once my new Unertl scope comes in this week I will have a range report and we'll see if this old girl still has what it takes.
  6. Go to custom kraft in blairstown. A bunch of real 1903's on the rack
  7. Gunslick foaming bore cleaner!
  8. This is an open invitation to any active duty military members on this forum to come to my place for Easter! Please dont sit alone in the barracks for the holiday, send me a PM and you are more than welcome to come up to my place in Warren County and actually enjoy yourself. If you don't have transportation, PM me anyway and we'll work something out. My family is Polish so Easter is the only time of year my Grandma makes all Polish food, trust me its a treat If you want to come up a day early we have extra room and we'll go out to the range and play. Most of the family is veterans so you'll feel right at home. Being stationed overseas for so long, I for one know what it's like to sit alone in the barracks during a holiday and I know it sucks, so dont do it...... This is an open invitation and you are more than welcome. Thanks, USNmars

  14. I wouldn't want to march into certain death either. You will have a majority that would comply and give them right over, but many will go down fighting. Imagine your door getting kicked down in the middle of the night....... quick time to decide friend or foe.
  15. I find out tomorrow if I am heading to help with the search effort.
  16. definitely get a manual, never trust anything posted online. Since it seems you are a new loader the manuals go through the basics too.
  17. I use "gunny" paste as it is called sometimes, but my new favorite is Howards Feed and Wax sold at Home Depot or Lowes. It is in an orange squeeze bottle and sold by the wood stains. Good stuff and smells good.
  18. If you can wait 3 weeks, bring it over when I get back from work and I'll knock it out for ya. Quick easy fix.
  19. People still shoot 1000yd competetion with Garands. I would like to see an AK pattern at 1000..... As much as I like AK's there is no comparison in accuracy.
  20. the last photo was the first coat of dye/oil. After several more coats you cannot notice the repair unless I point it out.
  21. I did a repair like that but on a lot bigger scale not too long ago. You can use a dremel and a chisel to cut out the bad area, and make it square. Glue in a piece of scrap walnut and stain to match. Here is a couple of pics from my big project, I used a mill but you get the idea of what needs to be done.
  22. Garand all the way. It was the rifle that liberated millions, Let Freedom PING!
  23. I think it is monday, tuesday and wednesday but not positive. On the website they advertise when they are open on the weekends though
