  1. "A spokeswoman for Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, offered no timetable for when the gun safety proposals might surface again." TRANSLATION: "We'll have all our ducks in a row soon. We'll re-introduce the bill as soon as another exploitable tragedy becomes available."
  2. I get the libertarian angle. I just don't believe that market forces will always eventually produce an optimal solution. And while socialized medicine will have it's problems, I think if a doctor screws up enough, he'll get dealt with. You don't really think they let those guys keep screwing up with no recourse? But in any case, as I said I don't have a solution. Seller/FFL liability for the buyer's future wrong doing..... no, that's neither right, nor workable.
  3. The problem isn't the FA weapons. The problem is US: People are guaranteed the right to arms, but there is no guarantee of responsible behavior. I know everyone here on this forum, if presented with their first full-auto weapon, would seek knowledge before handling or loading it. What about the newly 21, who has no previous firearms safety training or self-taught knowledge? I don't have a solution, but whatever the solution, it will involve training. We could extend the thinking to include crew-served destructive devices. You can own it, but would you want to try it before understanding it?
  4. http://www.brassfetcher.com/index_files/9mmvs45ACP.htm Loads of fun. As for me, I'm happy with either gold dot 9mm +p 124 grain running 1150 fps, or golden saber .45 acp 230 grain running 850 fps. Either will end felonious violent attack when applied properly. I think at some point, once you are able to make a certain size hole or larger, for sufficient depth, caliber doesn't matter any further.
  5. That is an interesting question. I don't see how it could be a problem, so long as both NJ residents do as they would for a F2F in NJ, but also would need to make sure both can legally have the item while in PA. It would be the same if both were in NYC, but of course you'd both be arrested. Then again, maybe there is something in federal law that would make this a problem.... Wouldn't make sense but maybe.
  6. I think 1737 is meant to as a safety valve for gun owners should currently legal weapons be reclassified as assault weapons, and be subject to confiscation. Personally I'd just lawfully transport them to a lockup in another state.
  7. There is so much factually wrong with that opinion I don't know where to start. But here: The landmark case District of Columbia vs. Heller (2008) was the first time the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment upholds an individual’s right to possess a firearm. Contrary to popular opinion, this is actually a novel interpretation of the Second Amendment. Um, no. Individual right interpretation dates far back before the constitution, before even the founding of the United States, and is found in English common law dating back 400+ years. The second amendment was penned to guarantee that right to US persons. One good bit of evidence is found in Justice Taney's opinion in the horrid Dred Scott case: <finding in favor of Dred Scot for rights would.....) It would give to persons of the negro race, ...the right to enter every other State whenever they pleased, ...to sojourn there as long as they pleased, to go where they pleased ...the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs, and to keep and carry arms wherever they went. Only in the mid 20th century was the novel theory of a collective right put forth. ---- Usually, we acknowledge that there must be reasonable limits to our rights. The First Amendment grants us the right to free speech, for example, but we do not have the right to shout “Fire!” in a crowded theater, because that would endanger the safety of others. The First Amendment also grants us freedom of the press, but we have laws against libel that prevent a newspaper from printing lies that could harm someone’s reputation. Two points - The right is not granted but guaranteed by the constitution. But more: yes we have laws against libel, but these do not prevent libel, they punish it. Get the difference? One would be a prior restraint on a liberty, such as criminalizing possession of printing presses would. Punishing harmful behavior such as printing damaging lies does not. --- We already have heavy restrictions on automatic weapons in this country. What is rarely discussed, however, is that, today, semi-automatics are actually more deadly than automatics. First: Because of high-capacity clips, an assault weapon can fire almost as rapidly as a machine gun. And second: Machine guns, while capable of spraying bullets very quickly, are not very accurate. An assault rifle, however, can hit a target with deadly accuracy. Did the author just argue that semi-autos are more deadly than machine guns? Maybe we can get automatic weapons removed from NFA regulation because they are safer. --- Emergency room doctors and nurses can immediately tell whether a gun victim was shot by a handgun or semi-automatic: A handgun will make a bullet hole; a wound from a semi-automatic looks like a bomb exploded inside the person. um, rifle. Is more powerful than handgun. A bullet from an assault weapon travels three times faster than a handgun bullet and is designed to shatter upon impact. um, rifle. Is more powerful than handgun. This is because they are military weapons intended to do maximum damage to a human body. They are not designed for hunting or self-defense. um, rifle. hunting, home defense, defense against mob violence, defender and symbol of liberty. ---- There is absolutely no right to assault weapons in the Constitution. The fanatical and erroneous interpretation of the Second Amendment that would claim otherwise is a direct threat to the freedom we cherish. It is a direct threat to our children. Um, no. Wrong. "Assault weapon" is a made-up term designed specifically to evince fear in ignorant people and to promote gun confiscation as policy. The US vs Miller case clarified that second amendment arms are those suitable to use by militia - equal to the load out of the common soldier. The United State Attorneys (who won the case against miller), argued several points, including this one: The Second Amendment protects only the ownership of military-type weapons appropriate for use in an organized militia. --- Guy's clueless.
  8. Kind of like how federal law requires a process to lift firearms disability, but the house always denies funding for it, So a felon can apply to get their rights back, but a felon can't apply to get their rights back. All at once.
  9. Sure they do. Each local police chief would deny every application, and if they ran close to the 60 days they'd post the denials in a bulk list, publicly, in each police station. Or do some other simple thing to defeat the law.
  10. Not safes. More like quick access lockers designed to keep out the undetermined. A real safe will not be so easily defeated but will cost a lot more, and should be bolted to the floor. All buy time not absolute security. And a yes an angle grinder or a torch will cut the steel pretty quick. Still you'd need to be specifically targeted by professionals, and if your stuff is that valuable you need layers, alarm, video, dogs, etc.
  11. Nice try (assuming the mechanics would work), but um, NO. Since this change is not permanent, it would fit the same logic as temporarily blocked magazines down to 15 rounds. Unacceptable. Not even thinking about if it's legal for an unlicensed person to do that....
  12. I love them all, but if I had to pick ONE as most fun, it would have to be my SP101. Especially with full house magnums, flash, boom! Until my hand gives out.
  13. There was a time when young people developed real grass-roots movements to oppose policies they were genuinely knowledgeable about. They were informed and able to defend their positions and attack their opponent's position with facts and logic. These days political causes are directed from centralized top-down structures, and the young adults recruited might had a vague idea of what they are supporting or opposing, but no real knowledge. NJCK, I'm glad you kicked her ass and in the most effective way. I don't know that I could do such an expert job as you did. You showed her the errors and gaps in her understanding, and if she is worth anything, she will re-examine her views as she educates herself. One like her, turned to questioning her own assumptions, is worth a lot.
  14. I thought southern california (san diego) was not nutty for gun control.
  15. I'd be interested in any specific questions this person asked, if they can be remembered. They might fit a pattern or script, if its part of an attempt to create new negative "news", Having said that, I wonder if this person just wanted to learn the gun rules in from people he took to know more than him.... Was the guy creepy? inappropriately attired for the shooting range? He had no gear - I've not been to that range. Were you in the actual range area with the ports or was it in the non-range area where people might shop, etc? Just curious. I've only had people try to talk to me in the range area in a limited way, because of the noise/earpro, and always on something specific to the guns in use or relevant to the fun. Maybe he was a non-shooting buddy of someone else there?
  16. This is a fine idea, and welcome to the forum. I will however take issue with and disagree with one statement in your email: We already have an Statewde AWB. We are fine with this and work with what we can. We obey the law but we are NOT fine with it. Or at least I'm not fine with it. Again, welcome, and thanks for supporting the cause...
  17. I'm just going to post this little snippet ascribed to the author of said book, from the OP's link: According to Cooper, Dwight D. Eisenhower negotiated a treaty with extraterrestrials in 1954 and established an inner circle of Illuminati to manage relations with the aliens and keep their presence a secret from the general public. Cooper believed the aliens actually “manipulated and/or ruled the human race through various secret societies, religions, magic, witchcraft, and the occult” and that even the Illuminati had become unknowingly manipulated by the aliens.
  18. I've been shooting at BH for several years, and for a long time nearly every week. Unless they've changed the rules, double taps are fine. Just leave a second or two between double taps and the next shot. I have a few times seen guys do rapid fire, essentially a partial mag dump. If the range officer picks it up, they will say something. I haven't seen anyone kicked for it, but that is the rule and being kicked is stated in the rules "you will be asked to leave".
  19. Sent to my rep and the to senators. Already sent several other comments to the white house. According to the FBI statistics for 2011, 12 times as many people are murdered with knives, blunt objects and bare hands, or other non-firearm weapons, as with rifles of any type. Please WITHDRAW your support for any so-called assault weapons ban, any expanded registration of firearms, or any magazine capacity limits. Our right to arms is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights and affirmed by the Supreme Court. I OPPOSE efforts to further infringe this right. http://www.fbi.gov/a...tables/table-20
  20. Besides the obvious, this is a novel mix of anti-gun (newtown) and anti-union (salary expose) techniques in the same hit piece. It's like they looked at the elements in the "story", and matched them up with stock items from central casting.
  21. The guy speaks true, even if he does present it in perfect weatherman form.
  22. Many years ago (late 60's I think) in Brooklyn, I had a revolver cap gun, the kind that took the plastic primer-looking caps. I forget what they were called. Anyway I had it with me in my father's car at a service station.... It was all black except for the cylinder... foolish child that I was I had got rid of the orange plug in the barrel, and was bored anmd started sweeping the service station with it.... A local plainclothes cop got involved and my dad had a very embarrassing talk with him. Seems he very nearly drew on me.
