  1. hey quick question(s). One is, Does Zeiss have a 'tactical' scope line? Or is it a hunter and target based lineup? Also, how bout the z-point red dot sight, any deal on that? Thanks Al.
  2. Pictures would surely help, this way the braintrust here could get an idea of exactly what you're dealing with. Maybe some saddle soap ?
  3. Topher I agree they are not cheap. I was pretty lucky I got a great deal on a early model the "1.25-4x24" AccuPoint, I want to say maybe summer of 2010? I got a great deal and loved it and it was awesome ... however pure overkill for my S&W M&P 15-22 but I knew it would be overkill, I didn't care, I wanted it anyway and I got a good enough deal it didn't matter. When Christmas passed in 2010, MidwayUSA had an absolutely ridiculous sale on the Aimpoint Micro R-1. Closeout, one time only deal, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. By selling the Trij I could buy TWO Aimpoint Micros which allowed me to put an Aimpoint Micro on my 15-22 *and* my shotgun. Could not say no. One thing I will say is they have soared in price as all things Trijicon have. They have clearly adopted the HK type of pricing, maybe not "Because F you, that's why" but still, their prices are pretty much in the soaring sky. But in my humble opinion they are worth it, the few Trijicon products I have owned (and continue to use Trijicon night sights on my Glock for example) and the ones I've had the pleasure to shoot on government and friend own weapons, always have impressed me absolutely. But you pay for it and there are plenty of high quality optics on the market to choose from.
  4. Yeah I had one and also one of those Glock .380's that are readily available in the USA (according to you)... Oh wait....
  5. Hey I might be interestd in that, I was close to buying a Zeiss back in November of last year for my 700... instead I got a Nikon Monarch (which I got a great deal on, and am happy with, but I know it's not a Zeiss etc.)... but am always interested in great deals like that. That Conquest HD5 5-25x50 is extremely sexy...what could you do on one of those? Literally, would be an awesome awesome get.. Please let me know or keep me in mind. Thanks much,.
  6. How bout an Trijicon AccuPoint 1-4x24? Awesome awesome optics.... illuminated with fiber optic and tritium so the reticle will not need batteries to glow. And Trijicon are battle tested combat optics, straight up. Designed for people who get shot at for a living, the thing will last come white walkers or Borg invaders.

    Glock 19Gen4

FYI- one thing I have always wanted and is finally available is a LaserMax GREEN Guide Rod laser... They actually released statements that it could not be done because of the vastly stronger need for power and therefore size requirements a green guide rod laser would need... and then a year and a half later they did it. If you are not familiar with this in the least, it is a laser for a Glock or other guns (specific models to specific firearms) that replaces the guide rod assembly, and then puts out a laser beam perfectly calibrated for that firearm. In the case of the Glock, the little take down nubs on the slide serve as the on-off buttons. For years they had popular sales with their red models but circa-2010 or so green lasers started taking over the market... Now they have released a Green model. I will be saving for one for my Glock 23 soon hopefully and maybe gifting one to my Dad for his Glock 19.

    New Glock 42

Vlad you basically hit it on the head. I am a .40 S&W user as it is kind of the "family" caliber... My father's former department was one of the first adopters of Glock 9mms but then only a few years (2-3) later they replaced their new-at-the-time Glock 19s with .40 Glock 23s. I grew up with .40 cal and was what I shot the most as a teenager up. I can't carry here but when I move to FL I fully intend to get a G27 for backup and sometimes primary carry. I think it's a fine compromise of power/capacity/Glock reliability and interchangeability with the G23/.40 magazines. A .380 micro Glock would be nice *if* it was something special we have not seen. *THE CURRENT Glock .380s , WHICH are not in fact available in the USA* (Unless you order them as a LEO purchase), are built on regular frames. The "baby" .380 is the exact same size as the baby 9 etc. Absolutely no gain but plenty of loss when you consider the round .380 vs the round 9mm. Maybe this yet-to-be-released Glock (if in .380) will be a special adaptation that is very desirable; that would be great. The current version leaves PLENTY to be desired.
  9. Is it a M1 Garand in a Sage chassis , ? (With bipod, foregrip, wierdass optic and plenty of en-bloc clips?_

    New Glock 42

Could you show me some? Last I checked they were banned from importation due not passing import law... As I understand it, Glock produces the .380 line for countries that will not allow civilians to own weapons chambered in "military calibers" like a lot of Central/South American nations, and .380 is not regarded as a military caliber so it is sold in those nations. Anyway thanks I'd be interested to see these in the USA.

    New Glock 42

The funny thing about the .380 is that I remember thinking when I first got my first gun, a Gen 3 Glock 23 in .40 S&W... how much I'd want a .380 Glock most likely because we could not have one, now I haven't much use for one nor .380 as I agree, why bother when you could just use 9mm right? I remember being able to punk a kid years back who was pretending to have been a high ranking Gangsta who of course "carries a gun everywhere in the world" except the moment I was talking to him... and he had, of course, a ".380 Glock. " I tried to be nice and say, You sure it's a .380 Glock? " *#*ing Right, Glock .380!!!" He did not like the fact I knew the fact Glock did not have .380s in the United States due to the importation laws. However the others among us absolutely loved it. something along the lines of "you got served, Wanksta" was spoken but not me. Just curious but as many people that want the "single stack 9mm " micro-sized, why not in .40? I would want a single stack micro .40 before a 9 if it was possible/ physics-wise feasible.

Congratulations hope you love it and it works great. I know the delivery of my Manners Composite Stock was like Christmas in July, literally. Post pics.

    My remi 700 "build"

Nice, are you replacing the stock? I found that on my AAC-SD, which also has the identical bipod and of course stock. as soon as the bipod went on the forend area contacted the barrel, which is very typical of Hogue OverMolded stocks. (Supposedly the fully-bedded version is all good but not the pillar bedded version that Remington uses on their rifles). I spent 6 months going back and forth before finally deciding but I really ran the gamut and had periods of "Ok THIS is the one" on like 6 different stocks. I like the Badger hardware good good stuff.
  15. I tried somebody's and really really liked it and have said I'm buying one on several occasions. One thing is it has a really blue filter. This is supposed to be beneficial but it's there. The Trijicon Reflex also has a blue tint (with yellow triangle as it happens). My Aimpoint Micros have a slightest in the world tint ,but its almost negligible.... on the Mepro its visible. But it's a very very high quality optic and I think you would be extremely happy with it. Also the choice of reticle options is a very nice extra IMHO.
  16. Hey no problem thanks for the compliment. This was a really great little addition to a rifle that quickly became the most expensive piece in my portfolio. Oh and I I only need another say, $3,000 or so before I feel happy and finished lol Anyway one slight recco... I would not ask for the two different colors like I did. I specifically wanted green and tan halves because I thought it would go great with the camo scheme and I like to be a little distinct from other people.. However as you can see most likely in the pictures, the very top (or bottom depending on your perspective) of the two pieces are not 101% connected to each other. There is a micrometer-small gap that i just can't reconcile. We tried clamping with a large vice, tried squeezing and tried screwing down etc. Just doesn't want to stay 100% tight at the fullest and I am sure it's because I don't have a matching set which was perfectly mated together. Regardless this issue is NO BIG DEAL other than to a perfectionist like me who notices things like this. Otherwise it's fine. And it really does look good, feel good in the hand, and completely helps the bolt manipulation. And it's cheap, like $35 total with priority mail shipping in an awesome little metal tin lol.
  17. I am as happy as can be with my Monarch 5-20x44 SF BDC on my 700. I had previously purchased two ProStaff 4-12x40mm scopes for some .22LR rifles I have and had so enjoyed them and had such great experiences with them, I decided I would seriously consider Nikon in my future purchases. It may not be Nightforce or US Optics but when you consider the value for dollar (or as us wine professionals are forced to say, The QPR-Quality-to-Price-Ratio) you can't beat it with a stick. I was also extremely fortunate to get 25% off mine on Cyber Monday, HAVING HAD THE EXACT SAME ITEM IN MY ONLINE CART PUSHING THE PURCHASE BUTTON the night before, but my dog went nuts and I had to immediately let him out. When I returned the session timed-out, I lost immediate interest and just went to bed or whatever. Next morning I wake up with an email, save 25% off any one item DSG sells, how could I go wrong really? Now I would fully admit that sometimes I lust for a showpiece scope for my showpiece rifle. I did not think I'd wind up taking this rifle as seriously as I do so when I get to dreaming sometimes I wish I had a flashy $1-2000 scope to show and play with. But as far as quality and usability, it's EXTREMELY difficult to not love the Monarch. I didn't know when I bought it that they were closing out the lineup for refresh with the Monarch 3/ProStaff 5 models so, you can get excellent deals if you search around.

    Remington 783

I definitely ' think its worth It... but you can get a 700 be a few dollars more.IM pretty sure DSG has models of 700S for 400,429, 499- etc. Some Dicks combs have Camo, heavy barrels, scope, stainless barrel, ek for only a small amount over 400...The 783,, is being marketed as newer technology and you might like that. Sometimes in life something costs 99 cents but you only have 98- I totally gt it and have been here,but... if you can spend just a small amount more, you an At the One and only - Remington 700. for can pick from several models and styles and you wont ever regret a 700. I love mine and had considered -Savage and a Kimber... Both nice rifles. Would have been happy with either. But I LOVE my 700 AACSD and there is only one Remington 700.
  19. So I recently bought and installed a KRG Bolt Lift for my Remington 700. For those unfamiliar it is a add-on 'handle' to the bolt-handle . Rather than a metal piece which needs to be professionally installed (with the metal bolt handle removed and then the bolt handle threaded for another handle, such as the nice and popular Badger Ordnance) this is a two-piece polymer 'sandwich' style accessory... You can just put these two pieces over top of the existing bolt-handle knob and it attaches quite securely. It really does feel good in the hand and substantially increases the amount of 'torque' if you will that you can apply for the bolt. What I mean is, if it takes X amount of hand/arm force to cycle the bolt, this seems to decrease X by quite a bit making it much easier to cycle the bolt (At least that is my impression.) Furthermore it swells up the actual size of the bolt-handle in your hand/between your fingers giving you a much more secure purchase of the bolt to hold onto and manipulate. For like $30 bucks it was hard not to try and I really like it. I admit totally I really wanted the Badger Ordnance... i like Badger Ordnance as a company ,I like their bolt knob , and I like high quality parts/add-ons but I was hesitant to spend $100 plus permanently modify my rifle (you need to or at least I would need to send away to them to have them modify the handle to accept the knob). I still may very well do it in the future but for now this serves a very functional and aesthetic purpose ( I got them to give me a green AND tan knob to match my Manners Composite Stocks forest camo scheme.)
  20. This is not going to be what you want (nor what you need, as it's a huge topic really) -- but let me say there is no quick simple answer... It's a broad topic. You ask do most optics come with a mount - I would say the QUICK simple answer to that is , No, but the real answer is, You are mixing the OPTIC with the WEAPON... you need a "mount" on both - for example, the Aimpoint you mention. You would need a "mounting surface" on the weapon, i.e. a picatinny rail on the AR-15, to accept a 'mount', like a LaRue or ARMS or included mount like on the Aimpoint PRO. In that case the Mount that is attached/wrapped around the Aimpoint will 'attach/MOUNT' to the rail on the firearm. But that is just one quick example and many other options/situations exist. Some firearms come with a rail or other mounting option included, and some optics come with a mount. I have a pair of Aimpoint Micro R-1 optics ... they came with a built in rudimentary "mount." For mounting on my 15-22, I had to buy another $100 mount, remove the factory mount, attach the Daniel Defense mount, and screw THAT to the 15-22's picatinny rail so it could be high enough to see and use effectively. The other Aimpoint I have goes on a shotgun, and in that case, both my shotguns I use it with have factory-installed picatinny rails on them. For this use, the Aimpoint factory mount screws onto the rail and it lines up just fine for use without any additional (and more expensive) mounting option. My Remington 700 has ~$550 scope on it with a fairly cheap mounting system, $30-50 rings and $30-50 picatinny rail sections. The next scope I get will probably be around $2000 , and I already realize I need a $200 mount and $200 rings for it. Huge expensive items but you don't buy a Corvette and put regular gasoline in it, right? In closing the best and unfortunately most accurate line I can say is, there is no general principle- almost each situation requires its own mounting solution. But it's not hard when we know what is going on, if you say what you have or what you want, we can easily help you get it narrowed down to what you want/need and what your options and $$$ range will be.
  21. You did just fine and it's a great gun and cool gun and reliable etc. You have plenty of options for customization. If you like you can change the stock and forend to a myriad of choices... For better comfort, control, looks, function, etc. You can also add one or more barrels which are extremely easy to change...if you a hunting, sporting, etc. barrel you can go from 18.5" to 30" ... and you can change for looks, function, etc. All in all a Mossberg 500 (590/590A1) is one of the top two shotguns made, along with the Remington 870, and you have plenty of options for the future and should have plenty of confidence in your purchase.
  22. I am always very happy with CCI ammo. Mini Mags are a passion of mine for shooting, I collect as much as I can, but CCI makes so many fine ammos with subtle variations for different uses...I try to maintain a 'balanced and diversified portfolio' of ammo and therefore in addition to both 36gr HP and 40gr RN Mini Mags, I stock plenty of CCI SV Standard Velocity 40gr RN, Velocitators, Segmented Hollow Points, Stingers, etc. etc. even Blazer bricks of 'bulk' because CCI/Blazer 'bulk' is better than alot of brands (Remington and Winchester comes to mind) 'premium' loads. I used to read amazing things about Wolf Match Target .22LR target loads but I always just stuck to CCI and Federal
  23. When I bought my Glock 23 in Jan 2010 I was new to firearm buying and started attacking information as best I could, digesting and assimilating as much as I could as quick as I could. I quickly zero'ed in on the LWD 40-9 conversion barrel and night sights as must must have for my Glock. I did the LWD 40-9 right away and took a week or two researching night sights. Everyone on Glock Talk that was half way cool or wanna-be SWAT/DELTA was all about the Ameriglo...Operator and especially Pro Operator ... they were all the rage. After careful consideration I went with Trijicon night sights green and yellow. I am absolutely enthralled with them and could not be happier nor envision using the gun without. As mentioned, Trijicon makes the tritium tubes for many other producers. So I trust their product. They also product the finest combat optics in the world. The ACOG is in a class of its own, other than the exact knockoff copies like the Browe and such there is no competitors. Their other products are not necessarily the finest of their class but they are possibly the finest COMBAT optics in their class.. the AccuPoint rifle scopes and the Reflex red dot-style sights are literally tanks and dual illuminated. They make optics for war fighters straight up... and their night sights are no exceptions. I cannot tell you how many times I have dropped my Glock and the sights are all good. I Also particuarly wanted these Trijicons because they have white circles around the colored-tritium-tubes. (The Pro Operators do not for example.) People said a small amount of gun cleaning solvent or a drop of Hoppe's #9 will take the "paint" right off. They are not perfect but they're still there and I am the sloppiest cleaner there is and I did not even know for the first year, I soaked them plenty of times before I knew. These babies are awesome. I also understand yellow is not as bright as green (and orange is not at all bright, the least light-giving and least lasting there is) ... so if you want maximum light you go green all around... BUT The contrast of the green and yellow is amazing. I am confident I can line up my sights in total darkness when I practice at night..if the situation arises they will be a huge factor in the defense. Now I want to point out I would feel happy with other night sights like Ameriglo and might even try Meprolight on this gun in the near future, just for a fresher look and to keep the things top notch. BUT I am most happy with the Trijicon and feel like I got the last pennys worth I spent on these.
  24. I am not too far from Flemington and would also be interested in this. I'd really like someone to take a look at my Remington 700 for me as I have a few questions/concerns. As it happens , maybe 2-3 weeks ago my father and I hit u[p Sportsmans Rendezvous for the first time and the people were very nice. I did not ask who was who or inquire about a gunsmith but just chatted here and there, checked out what was what. They had plenty of ammo all over the place , tons of stuff that was often obscure calibers and/or hunting stuff (.35 Whelen anybody? .45-70 & .357 H&H? I don't even know what a Whelen is.). They had several crates full of .22, Winchester which I don't mess with but also one of my favs, CCI SV. But it was like $65 a box or something like that so I could not get any, I don't NEED any and thats' just way too much unless absolute emergency imho. But there was cases of it. anyway I'd also be interested if anyone knows this guy or other gunsmiths in this general area, I'm mercer cty but Flemington is basically one town over.
