  1. Islanders. BUT, if both the Devils and Rangers win, I will temporarily be a diehard Devils fan. And if the Devils then go on to lose to the Rangers, I will resume my natural state of being a rabid Anybody-but-the-Rangers Fan.
  2. It is indeed a fun gun. I have a few thousand rounds through mine and have only had a handful of FTFs/FTEs, using several brands of ammo, even a couple of the ones they don't recommend. The only thing that takes away from the fun of this rifle is the fact that you can only get 10 rd magazines for them, in this state.
  3. Yep, of course that is disgusting. I never said it was anything other. In fact, I think I was trying to divorce this individual reprehensible act from the larger argument about cultural invasion -- ours and thiers -- so that the emotion clouding our judgement could be lessened. In this country we seem to wring our hands way too much over what foreigners do, but I don't really care what goes on in other countries any longer, in the abstract, while I can still hate their practices on the individual level. In other words, I have a detached resentment of a culture that thinks this is a-ok, while not really feeling moved to help people see the error of their ways. It is a lazy paternalism, I am certain. I care enough to be disgusted, but not enough to do anything about it. An example would be Sharia, which says it is ok for a "man" to kill his daughter for some ridiculous sense of honor. Some idiots want to bring that here, and I say a RESOUNDING NO on that (look up the idiot judge who wants to recognize it in Oklahoma). But I don't really give a squat that they do this daily over in Pakistan -- over 1000 women murdered there last year to save face for their "men". See, I can be as derisive and condescending towards a culture I see as inferior, but not care for us to do anything about it -- as long as it stays OVER THERE and not here. Ditto for the reconquista of our Southwest. I find nothing wrong with Mexican culutre, narco-terror and all, as long as it doesn't spill over the border. I like my culture best, I don't feel the need to subject myself to theirs -- that was the point of my post. I don't think it was appropriate to purposefully try and read any sort of moral equivalence into what I wrote. It was a post on the perpetual hand-wringing we do concerning the goings on in other places and how we need to worry about keeping that crap from coming here.
  4. While I agree that it is definitely a cultural issue, and we should not necessarily impose our own upon them, we should remember that other cultures are imposing themselves upon ours in serious ways, beyond merely adding to the melting pot. Any time spent in the southwest and California will confirm the more destructive aspects of that. So again, I agree that we shouldn't feel the need to fix other people, I just wish we'd all recognize that others are trying to fix us as well, whether it be La Raza or the Sharia-pushers in Michigan, Oklahoma or Virginia. I like our culture best, I vote to keep it intact here, and let others worry about their own.
  5. My go to movies are Tombstone and The Thing (1982), but the other night I ran across Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis and I was up until 3am watching it. So I have to add this one too.
  6. I don't know why, but after watching that video, I felt oddly compelled to find out what Wendy Williams thought about this case, as it was featured as one of the follow-on links. I really wish I hadn't. Thinking about both videos, this immediately leapt to mind:
  7. So, I guess this is getting either fairly serious or ridiculous, now that elected representatives are being removed from the floor of the House for wearing hoodies and other congresspeople unilaterally declaring this a hate crime, others claiming Martin was "executed" and "hunted down". If Zimmerman is not, at the very least, indicted there will be problems down there. Maybe some of the LEO fiolks can provide more insight, but does the fact that he wasn't arrested the night of the shooting, and the eyewitness testimony supporting his story, make it less likely that he'll be indicted? I really don't see how this ends well, if Casey Anthony could be found innocent with the physical evidence against her, how could this guy with all of the reasonable doubt and total lack of clarity in the facts of the case be indicted and convicted? And if he isn't satisfactorily dealt with, we can all guess what might ensue.
  8. Speaking of The Hoodie and it's newfound symbolic power . . . http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/dem-pulled-house-floor-trayvon-hoodie/450891
  9. Well, did you wear that hoodie to be in solidarity with Trayvon? If not, then it doesn't mean a thing. But, it is understood that the hoodie is now the weepy sentimental symbol du jour of The Struggle. Many aspects of this case are being deliberately confused and conflated. Zimmerman's ethnicity, for instance. He isn't a police officer and he may not be "white", by the common description. Yet somehow Martin's death is now linked inextricably with the Civil Rights movement and other high profile police-black/white-black confrontations, facts be damned. I even heard this case prominently compared by national personalities to the Emmit Till murder, which, if you know about that case, is laughable in almost every aspect. This is just a case about two people getting into a street fight with one dying. Except for the racial/ethic component this is, sadly, a very common occurence. I don't see how this is any different from what one reads over at NJ.com about Newark's daily troubles. It is just another senseless fight. But people won't let it be resolved as such, and they're using the hoodie to drive that sympathy/rage. So, the hoodie is the symbol, and the President has come down definitively on one side of this issue. Then his campaign starts selling hoodies. It is just poor timing, unless he was trying to make that connection, which is not knowable at this point. In any event, now he's pulled the hoodie. Why, if it is just a hoodie?
  10. Walther PPQ -- anyone hear anything about this yet? I've been looking at some reviews, but I'm still not certain.
  11. BH is a good enough place to shoot. I used to go more regularly, now infrequently for reasons not related to customer service. As jackdawack said, it will do if you just go to shoot and leave. Range price is relatively good and I like the idea of not having to fill out any paperwork to shoot. As for the attitude encountered there it is VERY annoying, but being located that close to Newark, or in Essex generally, you can imagine the high volume of jackasses they have to suffer daily. I live in Essex and I can say that this place is filled to the gills with jackasses. It gets very tiring.
  12. Everyday, for the past twelve months in particular, I see at least one story on Drudge or ZeroHedge that instantly brings this quote to mind: “If tyranny and oppression come to this land it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.” ― James Madison The intelligence, foresight and sheer common sense of the Founders never ceases to amaze me.
  13. Is it me, or do you think that NatGeo went out of it's way to showcase the most extreme people out there claiming to be "preppers"? I try not to think of the conspiracy angle first, but it seems like they went out of their way to show people who are closer to TLC's maniacal Hoarder type, rather than being true Preppers. A real prepper would not bring attention to their preparations. These people are fantacists -- prepping isn't jsut about buying/stockpiling stuff. It seems to me like it is mostly about being self- and situationally aware. Those are the two things most people today are missing more than anything else, awareness. I think that these people will be as blindsided by reality as anyone who isn't as well-supplied as they are, when it comes crashing through their front door. These folks, excluding the hippies, remind me of Francis from that movie "Stripes". Too hard, too "ready for action". I tuned into this show in the hopes of picking up some useful tips, but came away embarassed. I feel like NatGeo is attempting to paint all preppers with the extremist/crack pot brush (just in time for implementation of the NDAA).
  14. You mean, if he was a liberal named something real whitey like, say . . . Bill Clinton . . . he'd get a free pass, right? That man was hounded viciously for eight straight years. BHO has been opposed at nearly every turn, which is the right and duty of the OPPOSITION if they do not agree with the principles of the party in power. But he has not suffered anywhere near the level of personal attack that our last two white bread POTUS' have.

    GSG 5 fans?

Damn, that is a cool-looking rifle. I have a S&W 15-22, which I love, but now that I have a "real" AR in 5.56 I am thinking maybe it is time to make a switch in the .22.
  16. Seems like a classic chicken-egg scenario. Is the programming driving the interest or is the public growing collectively uneasy, for whatever reason? Maybe they are both feeding each other. But I will say this, that I have never heard of so many people that I know applying for their FID card, or beginning to buy extra food or just generally beginning to lose faith in the government/banks/system-at-large. It just seems like more and more people are jumping on the preparedness bandwagon, so watching these shows probably feeds that interest.
  17. BITTER clingers is what he called us, and not just in middle America. He was specifically referencing Pennsylvanians, while chatting up his elitist friends in San Francisco. But he was most likely referring generally to anyone who foolishly clings to the Constitution, 1st, 2nd and 4th Amendments in particular.
  18. Am I alone here, or have they taken the black gun thing a bit too far? I like ARs and lever actions, but not sure about this mixture. http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=31&section=products Would anyone here buy this?
  19. I bought the same rifle in June, chambered in .30-06. I had the same issue with the snap caps. Only one out of every four would eject as you would expect. I have taken it to the range several times since noticing this issue with the snap caps and have not experienced any failures to eject with live ammo. It isn't a top of the line rifle, but it sure is fun to shoot.
  20. I was thinking the same thing when I saw this reported on TV today, with the obligatory zombie interviews on the street: "Well, I guess it's ok. I've got nothing to hide" I don't have anything to hide either, but that doesn't mean I want anyone looking under my clothes on the street without my permission -- either physically or virtually. Anyone with even a simple understanding of the Constitution and our history knows that rights not exercised and defended are not rights at all. Not to get too melodramatic, but many Men have died to give these thoughtless drones the rights that they are just throwing away and it makes me kind of sick.
  21. That's kinda true. The difference between state tyranny and national tyranny, is that you can move out of the state if it doesn't suit you. You can't easily or freely move out of your country if things go south. I think we need to be much more cynical when analyzing the motives of all levels of government.
  22. I think this is the point of the RP argument. It is not 100% agreement with his policies that is driving support for RP, or party affiliation. It is a sense that there is no longer a conservative/liberal choice on the voting spectrum. There is only liberal (Rep) and extreme liberal (Dem). So, for those of us supporting him, he is generally seen as something of a last resort. Not a lesser of two evils candidate, but the last chance for addressing some of the structural problems we're facing. Now, I DO NOT agree with his drug legalization stance, and I categorically deny his 9/11 reasoning. However, I agree 100% with his Washingtonian policy of avoiding entangling international alliances. And his ideas on the Fed and the economy are spot on. He is the only candidate saying the things that need to be said. So, I would say that Paul is unelectable, even though I support him. But I would also disagree with you that there are principled people out there that are electable, but we're just not noticing. I have lost some degree of hope in the system that keeps spitting up these electable pieces of garbage every four years, while blindly rejecting candidates with real ideas. It is OUR fault, "We the People", for not demanding better leadership, for rolling over at every chipping away at the Constitution, for blindly accepting every new regulation and tax increase without question. Now, I'm a tad jaded, but I don't think this is the Citizenry the Founders were hoping for. Having chided the population for being cynical and lazy, the scales have fallen from my eyes over the past ten years and I am now also cynical and lazy. So, back the poll question at hand: I do not plan on changing my habits at all when BHO wins again. What's the point? His second term will be confirmation for me that we're no longer serious about preserving our Constitutional rights. That's a depressing thought.
  23. Thanks guy -- I appreciate the feedback!
  24. I'm new to ARs and have a question about magazines not seating. I have a few 20 round pmags modified to only accept 15 rounds and I cannot get a fully-loaded magazine to seat in the mag well of my M&P15 with the bolt forward. I can get it to seat with some extra effort if I only load to 13-14 rounds So: 1) Is this normal/expected behavior for an AR to not accept a fully loaded magazine if the bolt is forward? 2) Do any of you guys have experience with this, and do you down load the magazine? Thanks for your help! Dan
