  1. It will take time, mine took almost 3 months. Be ready to start becoming impatient at week 2
  2. I would say it depends on what your using your ammo for. Target practice and plinking, Wolf and other cheap ammo works well. Its not top of the line stuff, but many believe you dont need top of the line ammo just for plinking. If your protecting your life with your handgun, then go for the best...which is whatever shoots most accurate and feeds the most reliably. Either way, I would suggest buying quite a few boxes of different ammo (Rem, Winch, Federal, PMC, Buff Bore, etc) and see what performs well in your S&W. My 75B shoots pretty much anything. I use CCI's and Am Eagle for target practice, and have my mags full of Am Eagle for HD. What I like about Am Eagle is that its not too expensive ($200 for 1k rds) and it shoots GREAT.
  3. I found a nice 97b for $660 in PA, compared to the price of $750 in Jersey. With $20 shipping and an approx $50 transfer fee, its already up to $730. For 20 bucks, it just wasnt worth the hassle. I could have saved almost $100 on it, yet any savings is out the door with extra fees. Thats what I hate about handgun purchases out of state. Same with internet gun purchases. The savings can sometimes be amazing, yet after shipping and transferring fees, its not even worth it...Id rather just buy it in Jersey if I can.
  4. Personally, I think you should have had the GF immediately call the police while you made your way to the sons room, gotten him out of bed and brought him back to your bedroom with the GF. Then locked/closed your bedroom door, with the GF, son, and you behind cover and your pistol at the ready pointed at the door. I think too many people want to play the 'let me clear the house' game. If your a civilian with decent training in clearing/room to room then I think you have more leeway. Same with if your in law enf or military.
  5. I doubt any LGS' will be carrying either in stock, but you never know. The only thing you can do is give them a call and ask. Isnt the GSG 1911 barrel threaded though?
  6. Haha its not a problem. So you gonna post pics or what!? Did you get the plastic furniture or wood? Lets see it!
  7. Haha thats funny about the central jersey/north jersey confusion. Its funny because everyone always has a different opinion. Some people think New Brunswick is central, yet some people will say its north. Some people think Trenton is central, I think central is south. Im from what I consider central. My bad about the 'location' thing, Im gonna change it now. Im a member at EFGA in PA by the way. And thanks for the welcomes!
  8. Theyre cool, but I already have a rifle in 7.62x39 and dont need another Ak variant. Id rather get a Saiga-12, and shoot clays with it
  9. Thanks, appreciate the compliment! Its a cool little .22 pistol, I love it. I have over 10k rds through it and its performed flawlessly. I love the green/black scheme too, Im glad I didnt get the plain black. I can shoot some pretty good groupings at 7yds with it, for having such a small barrel and such a small frame.
  10. I started posting before I made this thread, but I thought Id still say hello to everyone. I can tell its somewhat of a 'family' around here, lots of ppl shoot with each other or know each other. Thats cool though, I like that. Im not expecting to be meeting with people to shoot by tomorrow, but I definitely enjoy gun forums and like talking about anything having to do with guns...and the fact that its a state gun forum makes it that much better. Found out about this site through a friend. I frequent other gun forums but never knew there was a NJ gun forum. Ive been shooting for about 5 years now. I have quite an array of guns in my collection. Im a member at 2 different ranges, one in Pennsy and BA in Jersey. Im sure most of you have seen me at BA before, Im there frequently or as much as I can be as its a 90min drive down there, but dont expect me to post a mugshot of myself on here yet I look forward to hanging out on here!
  11. Oh by the way, my model is the GSG-SD in titanium. I replaced the forearm with the rails and stuff, just cause? I dont even know why, I think I fell into the 'gotta mod it' hole. Funny thing is all of my iother numerous guns arent modded with anything like that haha. The titanium seems to chip easily, kind annoying. I am careful with it, just like any of my guns, but at the same time they do get used frequently and I refuse to have a brand new looking gun all the time. I enjoy having them look like they have been used, because I do use them frequently. Many people are filling the [hollow] stock with foam, or something of the sort. I plan on doing this as the stock feels super cheap and light, so Id like to gain some density with the foam. It should give it a much nicer feel.
  12. Its a fun gun yet the 'novelty' seems to wear off with many owners of it. Id wait for it to drop in price, or buy a used one. Do NOT spend over $500 on it, or at least I wouldnt. Be careful with used ones, they had a recall on the barrel shrouds and pre XXXXX models currently have an illegal barrel shroud now. You have to send them to the factory and they will replace them. I had to do it, it took about 3 weeks. The new shrouds arent hollow anymore, so theyre a little heavier which is nice. Expect to spend lots of money for numerous mags (you will easily buy 8-10), a red dot or some sort of glass, and lots of ammo. The GSG has a clamshell design, so its a royal PITA to strip the whole thing. One of the few things I dont like about the GSG is the fact that you dont necessarily have to, but should, replace a few things. Its ridiculous that they included a special GSG tool just to take it apart. Lose the factory screws and buy the screw replacement set off Rrages.com. Also get the buffer and push pins. Get 2 or three screw replacement sets, just in case. If you arent comfortable with taking a gun apart fully and thoroughly, the GSG isnt for you. Expect to fully strip it every few range sessions, and half-strip it (take the bolt out but not un-clamshell it) every time you shoot it. .22 is dirty, Im sure as you know, so yeah. Some screws will need Locktite (medium strength, NOT full strength) as they tend to unscrew during lots of shooting. Its lots of fun to shoot, and it gets a lot of looks. Every time Im at the range theres always someone standing behind me watching me. If they look legit, I will usually ask them if theyd like to shoot a mag or two. The grin on their faces are priceless when they get done. If I could go back in time and had a choice between the M&P .22 or the GSG, Id probably get the M&P. The clamshell design really is that shitty. The thing I like about the GSG is its rather unique, in the aspect that I rarely see anyone else with one at the range, and everyone has AR .22's. My advice - if you can get it for a good price, and your ready to strip it frequently and replace some stuff, go for it. If not, check out other semi-auto .22's like the AR clones and whatnot. Heres mine. I posted it in the rimfire thread but Ill post it again since its relevant.
  13. Meet with the Chief. Be polite and respectfully state your opinion and the situation your in. Im sure hed be glad to extend your permit(s).
  14. Neat targets. I remember a few years back the instructor at one of my pistol classes was letting us use them. DJG, Im lovin the Moral Orel avatar!
  15. No gun shops in the city/outskirts of the city will have cheap ammo. They know they can stick an expensive price tag on boxes, and people will still buy them. Suck it up and take a drive out to eastern PA, or at least western NJ and you will be very surprised at how much cheaper ammo is. Last time I went to a gun shop near the city to pick a part up, they wanted $14.99 for a box of AmEagle 9mm. In my area (western NJ) its $11.99. Basically, the closer to PA you are, and away from the city, the cheaper ammo will be.
  16. Dont you mean the PAP, imporated by EAA? I prefer the iron sights, but thats just me. The raised cheek-bar on the stock is a tad bit annoying with irons, but you get used to it. Single-stack WASR mags will work in the PAP. Obviously, double-stack wont unless you do some dremeling work. Its an AK, its going to eat up any ammo. Im not a fan of Wolf, although it does shoot fine in it. I get cases of Brown Bear rather cheap so I shoot that instead. The furniture on the PAP is probably the nicest wood Ive seen on an AK, if its not good enough for you I dunno what to tell you. If youre going in the direction of plastic furniture, check online...tons of sites for that stuff.
  17. I agree with many of the above posters, start her out with a smaller caliber handgun if you could (.22 or 9mm) then work her way up. If you cant, chamber one round and let her shoot individual rounds until she can shoot a whole mag. My gf was always into shooting as her dad was an avid hunter. She was used to shooting rifles, but not handguns. So I took her under my wing, and gave her a Guns 101 class one night. I had all my guns out, showing her what is what and what the actions are on each, cleaned some, went over gun rules/safety/manners, and that was about 3 months ago. Since then she has came to the range with me about 5-7 times and loves every minute of it.
  18. A buddy of mine has about 50+acres, so we made a small 100yd rifle range. I am a member of a PA range, which also has a 100yd range. The indoor range I am a member of only has 25yd max range, so I usually bring smaller guns to that.
  19. Such a nice rifle! Congrats on the purchase.
  20. I dont use HPs, 0 buck should stop the situation rapidly.
  21. I keep all of my ammo in dry boxes or ammo cans, old and new. I have some calibers loose in some cans, but most are nicely organized in their original boxes. Plus its easier to manage boxes when I go to the range, instead of having to fill up bags of loose ammo or whatever you would do in that case. Whenever Cabelas has their $7.99 sale on their ammo boxes, you bet I stock up.
