  1. Even before the proposed bans hit the news, I've always been interested in the gun culture of other states. A good way to get info has been their forums. Found this in the Texas Gun Forum: http://texasgunforum.com/index.php?topic=8310.0
  2. Yes, there were 3 or 4 on the wall when I left there tonight about 7:00.
  3. Ditto. I've been using them for years. You can also ship it to them if you live too far to drive.
  4. Shore Shot also has VPER's in 3 calibers for $900+. They sold out pretty quick last week, and got another shipment that is almost sold out.
  5. Ditto, +1 to you as well. Nice to have such a flawless transaction. They should all go this smooth. Good to meet you, hope you enjoy your new toy!
  6. Shore Shot got a shipment of Arsenals in a few days ago. Check their facebook pages for availability updates as they're going fast. https://www.facebook.com/ShoreShotPistolRangeNJ
  7. Go to your favorite auto parts store and pick up a jar of blue magic. Same stuff as Flitz at a fraction of the price. Use a microfiber chamois rag and rub until the rag turns black. I've been using this on my 686 and it works beautifully.
  8. I hope you're right. But, what I've been noticing from some non-firearms enthusiast friends/associates who have always supported the 2A is that the assault weapons ban should be reinstated and nobody should own an AR. Some supporters are turning. Let's hope that the Republicans in DC will stand strong when it's time to vote.
  9. The 2 AR's on the wall at SS are .22's. A lot of shotguns being sold this past week though, more than usual. Plenty of handguns in stock. All calibers of ammo is in high demand. They are limiting take home ammo to 2 boxes per customer.
  10. Find NRA Instructor courses here: http://www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx I've seen Instructor course prices vary from $165 to $500. Depends on the place. You'll need the BIT (basic instructor Training) course first which is good for 2 years. During that time you can get as many certifications you want.
  11. Drew over at Shore Shot is a gunsmith, and an expert with S&W revolvers. I believe Kevin is as well. My girlfriend had an issue with her Model 19 locking up. Turned out to be simple for an experienced gunsmith to fix and Drew repaired it for free.
  12. The Baby Eagle is a great gun. Shoots great, all steel and built like a tank, but as njluger mentions, it's heavy. I myself like heavy when shooting the .45 ACP round, but am partial to the 1911 format for that caliber.
  13. Head down to Shore Shot one day, preferably not during the weekend and rent the Glock 19 & 17, the Sigs and S&W 686 revolver. The the best way to determine what gun is right for you is to shoot a variety of them. Welcome, and good luck.
  14. Nice choice, Sigs are built very well. Enjoy it.
  15. Absolutely head to Shore Shot. Good people on the counter, and there are 2 instructors/range officers working in the range on Friday should you decide to shoot. Try and remember that Friday night is one of their busiest nights. There is a lull around dinner time (6-7:30) and wait time will be a lot less than say 8:00. Welcome!
  16. A vote to cap Membership at 600 was passed a couple of months ago and we are at capacity. Yes, it seems that they are still accepting applications, but there is a waiting list. I was talking to one of the officers about membership a couple of weeks ago, who said that what sometimes happens is that members will not renew at the end of the year. If anything opens up, that's when it will happen, more than likely. The deadline for next years dues is 12/31/2012.
  17. Ron at Legacy in Wall Twp. has a Colt SAA 3rd generation, 7 12" barrel, unfired with ivory grips for $1850. Link here: http://www.legacyfirearms.com/Shop-read-156.html I've been dealing with Ron for a few years. Good guy, never a problem.
  18. Yeah, NJ saves everything regarding firearms/hg ammo. We register every handgun, log all handgun ammo purchases and save NICS checks. NICS goes through NJ to the Feds. The Feds purge it after the call, and NJ saves it. Unlike our friends across the river in Pa. We pay for a nics check.

    cleaning

I have boresnakes for every caliber of gun I own, including long guns. They're great for when I'm feeling lazy after shooting and just want to clean the bore, especially after shooting lead. The shotgun boresnakes work better for me than patches, but a patch soaked with Hoppes is that first thing I do before anything else. I use bristle bore brushes for shotguns also. Wet patch, wet brush and boresnake followed by a few dry patches. For a field strip, brass and synthetic bore brushes, picks, q-tips, patches and cotton rags. Good brushes I found are denture brushes found at the dollar store. They last longer than toothbrushes and won't fall apart getting bristles everywhere. Definitely by a box of disposable gloves also. I like Hoppes, gun oil and tetra lube as solvents. To clean my stainless guns I use Blue Magic or similar non-abrasive chrome cleaner. Found out about the Blue Magic from the vintage car people. If it's good enough for the chrome on an antique vehicle, it's good enough for my 686. Flitz is basically the same stuff but just a small tube of that costs the same as a jar of Blue Magic that will last a few years.
  20. Start the expungement process regardless. Someone I know who did paralegal work said that expungement is just a bunch of paperwork and certified mailings that really don't require a lawyer. You could do call the court where you were convicted to get started. Good luck.
  21. You should be able to find a Ruger 22/45 for a tad under $300. These are the guns that are built to take a ton of abuse and ones that you can pass onto your grandchildren. Same said for the Browning Buckmark. If it's quality you're looking for, look no further. There's a reason they've been around for so many years and still make them.
  22. I'm running a Gen 3 Glock 19. Pretty sure that there isn't a Gen 4 Glock 34. I have a friend who shoots competition with a 19 and swears by it. Hey, whatever works for each individual shooter is all that matters. Another difference between the 34 & 17 is the trigger pull on the 34 is a pound lighter.
  23. I have a Glock 19 and a Glock 34 for range/competition use. I have no regrets and would buy it again in a heartbeat. It's a great gun. The barrel on the 34 is about 1" longer than the 17, and the slide cutout on the 34 reduces the recoil a great deal making for faster target re-acquisition. 34 also has an adjustable rear sight. The 17 is made for duty use, and the 34 is made for competition. Most of my competition shooter friends use the 34 also.
  24. At the last meeting, MCRPC voted to cap membership at 600. Not quite sure of the exact number of current members, but it's close to 550. One of the reasons I'm a member there is it's a 15 minute ride from my house. It serves my purposes just fine shooting pistol and .22 rifle. The trap thrower is down at the moment until further notice which is kind of a bummer for me, since I would like to shoot clays there. Something to remember is that the membership process is about 2 months from start to finish. Submit application first, then attend a range safety orientation, have your name published in the next monthly newsletter and be voted in at a membership meeting. First payment, including dues comes to around $307.00 including tax. After that annual dues are $100.00.
  25. Sorry, copied from website. Was at the meeting last night and they talked about the closure. The berms are being maintained.
