  1. I was at Stafford Forge on Wed or Thur last week and it looked ok. Yes, quite alot of shells on the ground, but overall, it was ok. The 100 yard range was cleaner than I have seen it in quite awhile. I was in communication with a guy at NJDEP in May of last year. Maybe it time to get in contact with him again... Here is our conversation from last year...... --------------- SUBJECT: Stafford Forge WMA is a mess I have not been to the Clinton WMA in a few years, but I remember the rimfire/muzzleloader range was very nice, with several covered benches. Also, there never seemed to be too much trash around. I just learned that the WMA at Makepeace in Weymouth has been improved with concrete benches. Why is Stafford Forge such a mess? 2 bullet-ridden, crooked, oddly-sized tables for rimfire, 6 million shotgun shells on the ground and constantly overflowing, bullet-ridden garbage cans. Frankly, I am embarrassed by how some people treat it. I am a firm believer in pack in, pack out. Is it that the parking lot is not right next to the tables, like at Clinton? I would imagine if we could park near tables, like at Clinton, people would be more inclined to clean up after themselves. Simply removing the pilings blocking the entry into the range would suffice. Adding new barricades to the shooting line would block vehicles from entering the actual range. I would also think that vehicle access to the shooting line would allow for more supervision from your wardens and local law enforcement. I would love to see improved tables, more than 2 stations and much, much less trash. 2 small garbage cans seem insufficient for the needs of the range. I would even be willing to volunteer for a cleanup day. Would the DEP bring in a dumpster for a volunteer cleanup day? I am a member of the NJGunForums.com group, and I know that several members shoot there often. I believe I could get a volunteer work crew together. I also know that the Barnegat Bay Blitz is this week. Getting a Blitz crew out to the WMA is unlikely this close to the big day, but I would go if it could be arranged. Thank you, and thank you for the WMA areas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PS - I heard from Regional Superintendent Ray Porutski about the range. He pointed out that the Stafford Forge Range is the only range in the Central Region where the public can use lead shot to trap shoot. The Colliers Mills Range is closed. The Assunpink Range is Steel Shot only. The result is that the use at Stafford Forge has tripled. The crews can't keep up with the trash. Stafford is also at least 30 to 45 minutes from the Colliers Mills office, which makes it difficult to maintain. Our volunteer coordinator, Linda DiPiano, is looking into using volunteers to help maintain the range. Thanks. 2. I have never used one myself on a 500 due to that very reason. If you are gripping with right hand and your right thumb can reach it, that is not too bad. But I think conventional wisdom is that pistol grips work best with non-mossbergs. I have never heard of a repositioning of the button. I bought a 590 with a pistol grip and swapped it out for a traditional wood stock.
  3. If you tell us what it is, maybe someone here would make you an offer.
  4. Got a Whirlpool from Home Depot or Target a long time ago, 2004 Maybe? Just like siderman, it runs all the time in the summer, and I too need to hump it out in buckets.
  5. 5 most dangerous oceans in the world... 1. Atlantic 2. Pacific 3. Indian 4. Arctic 5. Southern
  6. Siderman, Thanks for the headsup. I will be watching this throughout the day.
  7. Sixtytwo327........ Love it!!! Wood rules!!!
  8. I have a relationship with a FFL who runs my NICS ahead of time so that I just have to fill out paperwork when I get there. This does not help for any "finds" while out and about, but if I am getting something from him and have a 7pm appt, he will run NICS before I get there.
  9. Mossberg 590 before... ......and after.... I ebay'd the wood and picked up the M7 bayonet from Shore Army Navy in Seaside Heights. Sold the folding stock and broke just about even on the upgrades ( or downgrades if you have an aversion to wood). I now return you to your regularly scheduled tacticool programming.
  10. Good on them for both investigating the report and releasing the results. But I doubt many other outlets will release the updated results.
  11. 156.... Hey, I appreciate the offer. I took my mossberg on a road trip today and was able to get it removed at a shop. Again, thanks.
  12. 156... Excellent!!! When & where is good for you?
  13. Lalo, That's the one. Buuuut, Parsippany is a haul and I do not get out that way too often. I appreciate the offer.
  14. My new 590 has a Blackhawk forend I wish to remove. The nut is recessed in this forend and I cannot get a tool on it. Do you have a forend wrench, near Bayville, that I can use for all of 13 seconds to get this thing off? Thanks.
  15. I owned one for a couple years and liked it for the most part. I sold it to my brother to fund an AR-15. I am financially challenged and can only afford 1 fighting rifle. I prefer the AR platform for the ease of customization and the wide availability of replacement parts. I also find the AR to be a softer shooting gun.

    590 v. 500 v. 88

I appreciate all the replies. I picked up the used 590 today. I actually prefer to buy used guns as they are already depreciated a bit and I can get most of my money out them iffen I change my mind. I will try it with the ATI folding stock and swap it out for something else if I do not care for it. Anyone have any Mossberg 500 wood furniture to sell?
  17. I have regular hands with long fingers and need to shift my grip also with my 92fs. Practice, practice, practice.
  18. They always said no reactive targets, but they were selling them there this last week and said I could bring my own orange ball thing. I may be going out on June 8th. around 230pm. You would be welcome to join me.

    590 v. 500 v. 88

I have chosen Mossberg over Remington for 3 reasons... the ambi safety, bolt release button location and the loading gate configuration. Gun is for HD and for range fun. No hunting in my future.
  20. I am not usually a fan of the "help me decide which gun to buy" threads, but I would welcome some input.... Background.... I had a Mossberg 500a, 12 gauge with 18" and a long barrel. I traded it for a Mossberg 500c, 20 gauge, with 18" and a long barrel, thinking 12 was too stout a round for my 12 year old and my wife. After a recent trip to Cabellas in Delaware, I had an epiphany.... Shelf after shelf of 12, very little 20. So, I want to add a 12 back to into the stable. I have a line on a used 590, not A1, 8+1, that I think I can get for $300 out the door. It has some cosmetic flaws and a god awful ATI folder on it that I would sell to fund a real wood stock. Or.... There is a 500, 5+1, in the marketplace now for $300 stand alone, $400 with goodies. I was leaning to the Maverick 88, but I now think I want to keep the manual of arms the same, ie safety location. Opinions?
  21. Is the Colt AR15 upper anything special, ie break up the gun to sell upper to one of us? Then sell the lower to a FFL. Or is the gun worth more to a buyer complete? Probably the latter. Nevermind.
  22. I see you are in Ocean County. Look at A's in Forked River. I bought a then current Genesis last year for a normal price, but my SIL got a leftover model for a killer deal from them.

    S&W 586 at LGS

Both looked good thru the glass and both were in the 550 range.

    S&W 586 at LGS

Just a heads up to any revolver fans out there... I know that the 586 is a not seldom seen piece. Sportsman's Center in Bordentown has 2 of em, both with 4" barrels. If only I had a p2p. And the finances.
  25. As I am flipping thru tv this morning, I come across a Wise food company infomercial hosted by Marie Osmond. I watched it for a bit. Never thought I would consider a product sold in a tv infomercial, but they made a very good pitch. Is this food a decent brand? Any other brands/types of long-term shelf stable food you would recommend to sock away for the next 12 day power outage? We had to leave our home on day 6 after Sandy, mostly due to cold, but at some point within a week we would have run out of food. Thanks.
