  1. I think if you had left out "Muslim" you would have been OK. But funny anyway.
  2. Welcome from another guy in North Jersey (Passaic County).
  3. I didn't want to be the one to point that out, since I'm pretty new to this site, but I couldn't help noticing that there are a lot of large guys around here.
  4. LOL to that! Yeah, I think mine are still sitting under the coffee cups, because it's going on two weeks from when I was told that, and I still haven't seen them. I stopped by HQ a couple of days ago when I had a little free time, to inquire if they were ready. The clerk asked me if I had received a notice in the mail. I informed her that I hadn't seen my mail yet that day. She politely flipped through some permits, did not see mine; then curtly advised me that I would receive a notice in the mail when they were ready. I'm afraid to push too hard, for fear that mine will be put back on the bottom of the pile.
  5. OK, maybe it's because I'm new to all this, but isn't it a good thing that the guy recovered? I mean, assuming they were able to stop him, and neutralize the threat. If I ever have to shoot someone, my hope would be that he would cease to be a threat; but if the BG recovered, I wouldn't feel bad about that.
  6. Here's a recent discussion of that same subject: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/23844-what-accessories-do-i-need/page__p__312678__hl__accessories__fromsearch__1#entry312678
  7. I really wanted to attend, but the two and a half hour drive was too daunting for me. Did anyone record the meeting and post it somewhere?
  8. Welcome from North Jersey. Indeed, you have chosen an expensive hobby.
  9. Back atcha from North Jersey. Welcome to the boards.
  10. Good discussion, which is of particular interest to me, for reasons I'll explain. Lots of well-considered replies, especially from Vlad G. (Do we really have two Vlads on here?) My only firearm so far is a Glock 23, which is a S&W .40 caliber, for anyone unfamiliar with it. I had planned on getting a 9mm, not that I knew anything about it, but just because I had heard of it. I ended up with the .40 caliber because my LEO friend told me I was less likely to put a round into my neighbor's house with it. Also, his buddy was selling it. Without any frame of reference for comparisons, in my first session shooting it, I was stunned by how powerful it felt, and how loud it sounded. As I have become more familiar with it, and acquired better hearing protection, it has become a lot more comfortable (and accurate). Nonetheless, when I get my next set of P2P's (in the next few days, I hope), I plan to get a Glock 19. I've already stocked up on 9mm ammo, and am looking forward to what I hope will be a smoother shooting experience. After that, I'll get a Beretta 92A1, thanks largely to the strong recommendations of NJdiverTony and others. As others have noted, there's no reason to limit yourself to one or the other. Get one of both. Better yet, get a few of both!
  11. Congratulations! I read this with interest, since I was told a week ago that my application was on the chief's desk waiting for him to sign off on it. I keep thinking my permit is arriving any day, but perhaps I'm dreaming.
  12. I was going to head up there today to check the place out, but then The Masters started to heat up, so I stayed glued to my TV all afternoon. I'm solely a handgun guy, and don't see that changing in the foreseeable future (although I'll probably get a shotgun, mostly for HD). I've been doing all my shooting at TBH. I believe Cherry Ridge is about the same distance from me (hope nobody is triangulating my location), so I wonder if it would be worth joining? The Riverdale pistol range is really close, but it looks like they rarely admit new members.
  13. I guess I should consider myself fortunate. My other passion is running, which is dirt cheap: a few pairs of shoes, some clothes, and an occasional race entrance fee. I was a golf fanatic for many, many years, and shooting seems inexpensive compared to that. Plus, no wife or kids, (although I do take my wonderful GF out a lot; wish I could get her to come to the range with me, but so far NG). So that leaves lots of dough for guns and ammo.
  14. If you have a small gym bag, that seems to work fine for a gun or two. I didn't skimp on ear protection. For just a few bucks more, I was able to get ones that protected much better. They're a bit large, and probably goofy looking, but I'm not too concerned with my appearance when I'm at the range. For eye protection, I just wear wraparound, light-colored sunglasses. Unless one comes with your gun, you will need a cleaning kit and various products, like Ballistol. Good luck! What are you getting?
  15. I haven't seen this discussed here yet: http://www.nagr.org/UN_RP_BannerSurvey2.aspx?pid=NAGR Note that we're the ones proposing it. It never ends, does it?
  16. Is there an ongoing NJGF meetup at the Bullet Hole? If so, when is it? It would be fun to actually meet some kindred spirits from here.
  17. I've seen that video, or one very similar to it. (OK, not the whole thing, I'll admit; but enough to get the idea.) It's great advice, and quite an eye-opener.
  18. NJdiverTony, thanks for all that helpful info. I'm seriously considering acquiring a Beretta, and I wasn't sure whether to go with the FS or the A1. Given your glowing recommendation, I'm continuing to lean toward the latter.
  19. As I was driving home from The Bullet Hole today, I started thinking about how much I've learned since registering on this forum less than a month ago (March 19th). I would like to thank Maksim and all of the other knowledgeable denizens of this site for helping me learn in that short time: 1.) How to be a MUCH better shooter. My accuracy has improved enormously, and my thumb doesn't hurt anymore. 2.) A great deal about the wide array of guns, and why I need more than just one. Also, that I need a shotgun, probably a Mossberg 500 (which I had not even heard of a month ago). 3.) Enough about the law to keep me out of jail (I hope!). Really, I only had a basic knowledge of the law, and I had a few things wrong. 4.) About Guns for Hire. I'm currently signed up for a couple of courses, and am looking forward to expanding my knowledge by studying with the experts. 4.) That I may need a knife. (Still not sure about this one.) 5.) That the zombies that attack us may not look like ones I've seen in the movies. There's probably more, but those came to me off the top of my head. On the down side, you guys and gals are costing me a fortune! My three pending P2P's (due any day; should have applied for more) will probably end up costing me around $2000, but at least I can pay that off on the monthly OGAM installment plan. Plus, I've been getting to the BH once a week or so, and buying ammo like there's no tomorrow. Anyway, thanks again everyone. As Bogey said at the end of Casablanca, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
  20. I guess he never heard the rule about keeping one's finger off the trigger until ready to shoot! Clearly, that was staged, or why else would they have had the video recorder going?
  21. I'm not too concerned about being caught transporting guns if I'm pulled over for a routine traffic stop. For one thing, I've never had a police officer ask about firearms or check my trunk; and secondly, unless you're far from the beaten path, you could always say you were headed toward or returning from the range. So I don't see a problem there. The scenario that troubles me is that if one were to make a stop (not that we would do that, but for the sake of discussion), and your car was broken into and a gun stolen, how would you explain it? Certainly, you would have a legal obligation to report a stolen gun, but how would you explain the circumstances?
  22. Called my local PD this morning to be sure they had all the necessary documentation. I was told that it's on the chief's desk, along with a bunch of others, and he will get to it before too long. In the meantime, I've contented myself with purchasing lots of ammo. So far, I have about 2500 rounds, 1500 of which is 9mm. Since I don't even own a 9mm handgun yet, if for some reason my P2P is denied, I'll have a lot of useless (to me) ammo on my hands.
  23. I was thinking of getting one or the other after my P2P's arrive, and then 30 days after I get a Glock 19, so I have some time. Can anyone else comment on the relative merits of the FS vs. the A1?
  24. I live alone. I keep my lone handgun in my nightstand with a loaded mag in it. Is that bad?
  25. Another welcome from north Jersey. What exit are you?
