  1. While I love my Smitty wheelguns, this 686 is starting to be a pain in the neck with its stainless steel finish. It came in about 90% condition from the dealer, and with a little tweaking and elbow grease it's looking much better. But even after working some Mother's in several times (after each range session and after wipedown with Otis cleaner) I find the finish just doesn't have that gleam that, say, my Model 37 S&W has on its finish. Any ideas on another polish, or any suggestions on how I can get to see my ugly face in its finish would be appreciated. Scott In Bayonne
  2. You can opt out. I did, and I haven't received any wine club B.S. in the mail since then. Unfortunately, they still squeak an email or two per week in regarding all of the other third-party nonsense they market.
  3. We're getting awfully convoluted in our discourse here, evoking Constitutional rights and castigating each other for real and perceived violations of same. Here's my take on it in a nutshell: Dick's corporate offices made a knee-jerk (or not, depending on what you want to believe about their business practices; see #63 for details) decision after the Newtown murders. I, along with many other gun owners, think that was an absolutely gutless move. I think it also sends a message to the public at large that someone other than Adam Lanza was responsible for the tragedy, which I don't believe anyone on this board agrees with. A righteous groundswell of anger regarding Dick's betrayal of a sizable portion of their customer base resulted in a Facebook page dedicated to a boycott of Dick's. In addition, many here stated they would no longer patronize them because of the reprehensible action they took to somehow point a finger of blame at law-abiding shooting enthusiasts and gun owners, rather than stand with us shoulder-to-shoulder. Along comes vlad, who brags about scoring a deal at his local Dick's. Personally, I think it's a stupid, short-sighted decision to contribute to their bottom line, saving a few bucks, while they actively work against the rights we currently have re: firearms ownership. I won't ever buy a thing there, and will instead support those businesses that defend our 2A rights. How it evolved into what it did is one reason I take an Excedrin before I log onto NJGF. The amount of inane blather--which I'm guilty of contributing to at times--over this issue is unnecessary. Oh, here's that "nutshell" I promised above: If you want to shop at Dick's, or CTD, or any other vendor who betrayed us on this occasion, I think you're a fool. That's my opinion, and mine alone. The good thing is, most of us on here couldn't care any less what others think of us, so no harm, no foul. Let's stop with the evoking of the "Constitutional rights" thing, already.
  4. Do you really think there is any equivocation between someone who decides NOT to do business with turncoats such as Dick's, choosing instead to use any number of other brick and mortar sellers of ammo, or any number of online purveyors and telling that someone they should move out of NJ because it's not a 2A-friendly state? Judging from your previous posts you've got to be smarter than that.
  5. Klugman was as good a dramatic actor as he was a comic actor. Durning was good right up until almost the very end, playing Tommy's (Dennis Leary) father on "Rescue Me". RIP to both gentlemen.
  6. Terrific piece! I'd post it on my FB page but because of its source I'll have some libtard friends start in with their "But it's FAUX News, and you can't believe them" nonsense.
  7. Farmer: You are absolutely right. I took the headline and made an ill-advised generalization. While Rochester, like virtually all big cities, does have its craphole areas, this certainly was not one of them, but a very nice waterfront suburb of it. Next time I'll actually open the link before I bloviate ;(
  8. So what if Booker is the next Senator from New Jersey? Like he could be any worse than Lautenberg or Menendez? As for Christie, no one is going to beat him, and the dems know it. Don't look for them to make one of their rising stars a sacrificial lamb against him.
  9. I have to go to Rochester once a year, for the weekend, and this does not surprise me one bit. There are neighborhoods there that rival the worst Camden, Newark, Paterson, Jersey City or Irvington have to offer.
  10. Good for you and anyone else that chooses to add to the bottom line of a corporation that essentially went along with the idea that ALL gun owners are somehow complicit in the Newtown tragedy. Me? Not so much. I'll spend my money at more "friendly" establishments, even if I have to pay a little more, rather than give Dick's another red cent. Same with Cheaper Than Dirt. Both of them are gutless.
  11. It's easy, Ricky.....Schumer simply has never met a TV camera he didn't like. He's been known to actually shove people out of the frame, knowing he'd be going on-air. I have gotten some good nuggets on him and other political and entertainment figures from a friend who was a cameraman for a major NYC network station. The "red light" is what goes on the front of the camera to let the subject/reporter know it's filming.
  12. Old news. But it is kind of amazing how the lame-stream media still doesn't run with this particular ball, or the fact that Chuck "Get out of the shot, the red light is on!" Schumer also has a CCW. Add to that the armed details Bloomberg and some other political elite/anti-2A figures have protecting them and you've got hypocrisy on a huge scale.
  13. Talk about us gun owners being our own worst enemies....
  14. I helped teach the Kearny H.S. band some years ago. I'd watch in awe as the Scottish, Irish and Portuguese kids would fool around with a soccer ball while on break, and they weren't even ON the soccer team. Good people in Kearny, the only other Hudson County city I'd consider moving to.
  15. Harrowing, matti, just harrowing stuff. Glad you and your family are okay, though. Don't struggle with "what if''s?" at this point. Just be thankful it wasn't you and yours. You're a good man for jumping in there and doing what you could.
  16. Another Hudson County in the house! Welcome, Anthony! Nice inventory of firearms you've got, too. Scott in Bayonne
  17. Thanks, Ron. I'm going to Heritage next week to look at both used and new.
  18. Three P2P submittals over the last three years from the Bayonne P.D., and not once did they ever call to let me know they were ready for pickup. Not only that, they brazenly lied and said they either: A) Called, but no one answered, or B) Left a message. In both cases they were full of crap. Best was when they said a detective in a car had COME TO MY HOUSE to drop them off. When I bluffed the guy on the phone, telling him I'll check the vid from my porch security camera, he stammered, "Well, maybe it wasn't YOUR house, but they tried to drop somebody's off". Pure garbage. Last time around I got the same nonsense, a four month wait and then the lie that they had tried to contact me. When I finally got them they were signed eight days prior. Lost precious time on my permits because they plain just don't give a crap. I find that applies to most P.D.'s in this state.
  19. I'll drop into HG in Rahway after the holiday to check it out. But the last time I was there, around 2010, I started looking around for a hidden camera, thinking somebody was goofing on the incredibly high prices on their new stuff, LOL. Thanks! S I B
  20. lunker: Good point about the service and parts, but at $229.00 NIB at Bud's I just may have to take a chance. I was hoping someone else on here had actually fired/owned one. Cheapest Mossy I saw was about 80 clams more. Right after Christmas and once the bills start rolling in, "just a little more" becomes relevant, buddy ;-) Regards, Scott
  21. Okay, all you shotty mavens, I'm ready to pick up one of these (apparently a Bud's exclusive) economy-class shotguns for HD and wanted to know what, if any, feedback might be out there on it. Thanks in advance, Scott in Bayonne
  22. GREAT article, but I agree that the libtard comments just about make my head explode. Malkin is terrific. She's also a major babe. I was wrapping presents and had just used a box cutter to cut the paper. I nearly cut my index finger off as soon as Michelle popped up on the ol' tube and diverted my attention.Coulter needs to get some new makeup and put on a few pounds before she takes over the number one conservative lady spot in my estimation. But she is my favorite antagonist of the Left. I wish FOX would let Harris Faulkner take more of a pundit's role, rather than just news reading, as she is also quite the looker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcFZguI0RKk Sorry for the thread hijack! Scott (I've got MY priorities in order, huh?) in Bayonne
  23. Could very well be, but let's not forget that the Bush family had a collective woody for his head after Saddam supposedly orchestrated a plot to kill H.W. I, for one, would put THAT at the forefront of Dubya's mindset to go after Iraq when the opportunity (the WMD intel) presented itself.
  24. I didn't realize that many folks still remember Joe's little run-in with the plagiarism unpleasantness some years back, LOL
