  1. The design of the KayFuns/Russians is why they're better than say, a kanger aerotank. I have a KF clone and I feel like I'm my own fog machine (usually I run a 1.4 ohm single coil, running around 10-11 watts on my DNA30. Had a 1.2 coil up to 18 watts and it near blew my head off.) The only problem is... for as easy as it is to rewick/recoil a rebuildable... I'm lazy... for unfortunately the KF sits until I get fed up with the aerotanks or whatever I'm using at the time.
  2. WHA?!?!?! That's nuts! My FPID and first pistol permit in town (November 2010) took less than 2 months... and mostly because it took me 3.5 weeks to get a fingerprinting appointment.
  3. Welcome from a fellow resident! 2 new Hawthorne residents in 1 week! Cool! (Sometimes I feel like I'm alone over here. )
  4. Welcome (from a fellow Hawthorne dweller!)
  5. Note... cheap supplies/ejuice: MtBakerVapor.com (I also buy locally from Good Karma (try the Magilla Vanilla) in Fair Lawn and Good Guy Vapes (That's where I get my Suicide Bunny juice) in Clifton... but neither carry spearmint... which is my usual vape.) I don't work for them, I have no horse in this race... just passing on where I usually get my stuff. (and ejuice with MBV starts at 4.95... hard to beat.) Also... vaporfrombaker (or maybe it's vaporwithbaker... something similar) gets a discount. (It's at least 10%)
  6. I had a VTR (and kanger aerotanks) and now my daily driver is a VaporShark DNA30 with either a Kayfun 3.1 or a Kanger Aero (if I'm too lazy to recoil/rewick the KayFun). If you want clouds of vapor... start looking first into Variable Voltage/Wattage devices (a good start is the iTaste VV3.0... it's relatively inexpensive and has a nice variable range and good battery life.) Then if that's not good enough... you can look into rebuildable tanks and start building low Ohm coils and cranking up the wattage and get HUGE plumes... like a fog machine. (When I run my Kayfun at 1.4 ohms and 15 watts... the clouds are crazy... and I know I'm not even breaking the surface. Go read the eCig Forum or reddit's e cig forum... people are building 100watt devices and running .4 and .2 ohm coils.) The VTR is great... but it is heavy and overbuilt (which is probably an understatement). I dropped it once on my foot... I bruised my foot. VTR was unscathed. (True story) Dropped it once on concrete... only 1 tiny scratch... no dents, nothing. The design is great (love the captive tank), the swappable batteries is a nice feature.
  7. Like any petulant child... these groups have the same process: 1) ask nicely, 2) plead (beg), 3) get angry 4) boycott You can go from savior to sinner in their eyes faster than paté through a goose...
  8. Yep... .40 and .45 versions to follow shortly.
  9. http://imgur.com/a/3r8Zw SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
  10. First thing... that better be the real deal and not a knock off for $300. I only paid a little more when I bought mine a year ago. Second... I don't understand why people are saying the appeal of the UBR is the adjustability. That can't be right. The UBR only adjusts for LOP, like any other telescoping stock. Why would that be the appeal when they could buy a STR, CTR, MOE, etc and get the same adjustability? Perhaps you're thinking of the PRS... which is fixed, but has all sorts of adjustability (cheek height, LOP, etc.) I have a UBR (neutered for NJ) and I love it. The extra weight of the UBR really helps balance out the front end. (Old pic. That bipod/grip is gone. Replaced with an AFGv2.) And yes, Big Five, it IS bad ass.
  11. Precision gunsmithing on AK variants usually involves sledgehammers and sufficient amounts of force.
  12. Congrats! Dead on reliable. It eats, shoots and leaves. I love my 45c.
  13. Did a little more digging... other knife websites (like knife center) are selling the lil friends for $18 EACH!
  14. Just picked up a set for myself. At that price it's hard to pass up and I don't know how much longer it'll last. 4 mini (all under 4.5" OAL) Boker fixed blades for $29.99 (or $9.99 each if you only want one or 2) They're not here yet... or else I'd post pics.... http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/18fa/
  15. Yep... if you end up putting good glass on top... that usually ends up being the most expensive part of the build. I didn't feel too bad about my build until I bought the ACOG and added that to the total. Then, after a minor heart attack, I loaded it into the truck and spent almost 2 hours at RTSP with it. Sighted it all in, function check, and then just lots of fun slinging lead downrange. (And, to give them a huge thumbs up, they let me finish my second hour with no rush or hurry... even though it ended up being almost 20 minutes AFTER closing time.) After range time... I didn't think about the money spent again. (Well... until this thread popped up.)
  16. Thankfully no refinancing necessary! It wasn't too tough to swallow, because I only bought stuff when the wallet allowed. It took some time, but I used the downtime to do research and stuff so when it finally was all done, I was 100% satisfied. I love my ACOG, but YMMV. But comparing a magnified ACOG to a EoTech or an Aimpoint isn't apples to apples. Different purposes. (And by the time you put a good magnifier and mount on your AR to get magnification with an Eo or Aimpoint... you'll be in ACOG price range anyway.) Yeah a fixed magnification optic is slower in close than a red dot optic. But I didn't build this AR for close quarters. It all really depends on what you're building the AR for, what purpose. That will define your gear.
  17. I concur. I'd leave it and shoot it as is.
  18. I kept a spreadsheet during the build. Mainly for my own knowledge, doing things smarter/cheaper on the second build, etc. 16" mid-length complete upper (Accessory Arms: 1:7 CL/CHF, lo-pro gas block, FSC556 pinned/welded, no handguards/delta ring) - $560 Centurion C4 12" - $280 Spikes lower (LGS) - $120 FailZero NiB BCG - $180 Spikes ST2 buffer - $30 Geissele SSA - $180 Magpul UBR - $250 Magpul MIAD - $30 Troy Tritium DOA BUIS - $220 Magpul AFGv2 - $30 ACOG TA-31H - $1000 $2700 before mags, ammo, light, mount, sling, case. Including that stuff (but not including ammo) I'm probably within spitting distance of $3500.
  19. Since "assault weapon" is pretty much a made up term by antis, politicians and the media teet-suckers... I would really think that any law that needs vagaries to define what is and isn't legal shouldn't really be made a law. It basically boils down to "because I said so". If you can't substantially define WHY something should be illegal, but are basing it alone on looks, or cosmetics, then that really shouldn't be good enough to base a law around. If substantially identical is enough of a reason to make a law then... by my decree... Mustangs and 'Vettes and Camaros and Camrys and Fusions and Chevy SS's are all illegal. (All cuz of those not street legal NASCAR cars that looks like camrys and fusions, etc.) My buddy's (very) not street-legal Mustang drag car looks substantially identical to a Shelby or Roush Mustang that is street legal. Why isn't a normal Mustang illegal? Cocaine and sugar and baby powder look substantially identical... BAN SUGAR and BABY POWDER! Oregano looks like weed! BAN IT!!! Are you listening NJ legislation!?!?! BAN THESE DANGEROUS PRODUCTS IMMEDIATELY!!! For the children!
  20. I have one. It's not bad overall. I normally mount it on my HK45c. Pro: Fits great, doesn't extend past the muzzle at all. The laser is bright, easy to see. Set it and forget it (I mount/unmount it pretty regularly and it continues to retain zero). The 2 button system is simple enough to use. (Use 1 button for on/off, press both at same time to cycle through the modes. It remembers the last mode you use.) Con: The flashlight could be brighter, considering what the current LEDs can do, but it is more than adequate for the average sized room/hallway in my house. The allen-head screws for adjustment are really really tiny, don't lose the allen wrench. (Pro: they do give you 2 allen wrenches though. ) CR2 batteries are tiny, mediocre life. Overall... decent purchase, especially if you find a deal somewhere. I'm more than satisfied with it, and it's especially good on a smaller "compact" gun (like a PPQ, HK45c, P2000, M&P9/40c, etc.) because it doesn't extend past the muzzle.
  21. You know that comic/anecdote/one-liner/etc... we give in and allow one tiny concession and they keep marching forward. The only people who are actually moving the finish line are us by allowing it to continue. It's not a "movable finish line" to the ATF or the antis or MAIG or whoever.... they'll only stop when "they" are the only ones left with guns. That's their finish line.
  22. Okay... this MGI AR variant can fit in a pistol case when disassembled. In fact, that's how they're selling them and shipping them. (Allgedly they're prepping to sell parts for 15 different calibers.) Quick change barrel. Quick change mag well. Full caliber conversion in less than 3 minutes! 1) Shut up and take my money!!! 2) Besides pinning the stock... anything else needed to make this puppy NJ compliant? (Aside from barrel selection.) 3) Shut up and take my money!!! http://www.alloutdoor.com/2014/03/10/compact-hydra-ar-rifle-fits-pistol-case/
  23. What I would do... contact Aldo (http://newjerseysteelbaron.com/) and see if he knows someone who would take on this kind of work. (He supplies steel to many local and non-local smiths. People rave about his service/products over on the UsualSuspect form. He's gotta know someone.)
