  1. OK. I think we have no choice but to hand him over.
  2. Not that I'm aware of, though this scenario reminds me of the Luby's Cafeteria shooting in Texas back in 1991. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luby's_shooting I remember it because I remember Suzanna Hupp, who lost both of her parents in the shooting, calling out Texas for not allowing CCW. She had left her .38 revolver in her car outside, rather than risk carrying it into the Luby's on her person. From the Wikipedia article: The Texas State Rifle Association and others preferred that the state allow its citizens to carry concealed weapons.[22] Democratic governor Ann Richards vetoed such bills, but in 1995 her Republican successor, George W. Bush, signed one into force.[24] The law had been campaigned for by Suzanna Hupp, who was present at the massacre; both of her parents, Alphonse "Al" Gratia and Ursula "Suzy" Gratia, were killed by Hennard.[25] She later testified that she would have liked to have had her .38 revolver,[10] but said, "It was a hundred feet away in my car." (She had feared that if she was caught carrying it she might lose her chiropractor's license.)[23] Hupp testified across the country in support of concealed handgun laws, and was elected to the Texas House of Representativesin 1996.[26]
  3. That sounds like something NJ would do. Fortunately, he was also charged with violating plenty of laws that were in effect at the time of the shooting.
  4. Ah, I understand now. That page is in the 'First Amendment Lounge', which does require a password in order to view any pages there. Security is tight, it would require a bank of quantum computers running the latest classified cryptography software in order to hack into this inner sanctum of the NJ Gun Forum. As a helpful workaround, the password is printed for all to see at the bottom of the login page for the First Amendment Lounge. You'll spot it now that you know it's there. I believe you have to re-enter it every three days (or maybe it's weekly, per @CMJeepster) in order to maintain access to that forum. In keeping with password security best practices, the password changes every...well, OK, it has never been changed.
  5. There isn't a password. If you add the county, city, business name in a response to the thread (or PM me) I'll see it and add the information to the top post. It was the best way I could think of to keep all of the data in one post, rather than scattered throughout the thread.
  6. Call those businesses out as you find them, and I'll add them to this list: List of NJ Businesses Posting 'No Guns' Signs
  7. If you decide to add a bench top jointer, let me know...I've got one I'd planned to sell.
  8. I saw that. Already updated the ‘businesses where you can’t carry’ page
  9. It's not UnderArmour, but the concealed carry aisle at your local Walmart stocks these polyester base layers for $7.48, in a variety of sizes and colors. Go down a size from what you're used to, for a snug fit. They run long, so they stay tucked in. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Athletic-Works-Men-s-Active-Core-Short-Sleeve-T-Shirt-Size-S-3XL/832673974
  10. I just picked up another bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. Plenty others I wanted to try, but I really liked this one when I grabbed a bottle before Christmas.
  11. That’s cool. Only three instances in NJ since 2019. And so much violent crime against unarmed victims in that time.
  12. Reported where? MT DOT stays very much on top of reporting highway conditions out there--they get some of the worst road conditions in the country. I90 didn't close yesterday, there was a lane closure Feb 3 due to a two car accident, and a bunch of high-wind advisories. https://www.mdt.mt.gov/travinfo/alerts.aspx I've got a good friend in Billings who is unaware of anything odd happening...other than they all knew the balloon passed over the state.
  13. I thought it was over Missouri by late afternoon today?
  14. Plenty of people think the government shouldn't be requiring it. However, you won't find many arguing against having, and maintaining, a high level of proficiency with the weapon you'll be carrying.
  15. I don't know of any, though they may be out there. I do know of harder qualifying courses than Gun for Hire. Some facilities use the same HQC-1 course the police use for qualification--holster draw, strong hand, weak hand, standing-to-kneeling stages... But as far as I know, the state hasn't been pushing back on the easier qualification courses, they just cling to their 80% number, not worrying themselves that they never specified 80% of what. Practice a lot with the .38, including a great deal of dry firing, so that you can easily pass the qualification. Maybe qualifying with the little .380 is not to be. The gun is almost certainly capable, but as you note, it's harder to do. Most ranges let you sign up for two passes over the course, and if you qualify with the .38 on the first try, you can alway try with the .380 on the second. Check in advance to make sure they offer a course of fire suitable for 6 shot handguns. Not everyone does.
  16. I picked up my permit this week! Applied mid-late Sept Money Order cashed around Nov 1 Approved by Morris County Superior Court last week. About 130 days after application, including the weekends and quite a few court holidays. On top of that, before applying I spent over a month collecting paperwork and mailing forms around for reference signatures and waiting to get a slot to fire the HQC. All-in-all, close to 5 months and almost $400 for the entire process. References weren't contacted. I have a two page court order which lists the handguns on my qualification form and specifies I'm limited to carrying only those, unless I have the permit amended to add additional guns. No other restrictions checked. I have to carry the court order; the detective recommended keeping a copy in my glove box, and a clear scan of the document on my phone as the best way to meet that requirement. I still need to clean up the poorly cut edges of the printed permit, and laminate the thing. I can't decide if I'm more happy to have it, or pissed off at how difficult the state made the entire process.
  17. I think it will be useful to maintain a list of business that are posting some variation of a ‘No Guns’ sign in NJ. I'd like to crowdsource the data. If forum members can list, in this thread, the County, Town, and Business Name, plus any notes you think relevant, I will periodically pull the information out of the thread, and add it to this top post. It should give carry permit holders on this forum one post to check to see where private businesses have added restrictions. I'm not capturing here the broader restrictions that are part of NJ law...schools, courthouses, etc. This is NEITHER A COMPREHENSIVE NOR A CURRENT LIST of NJ businesses that have posted any variation of a “No Guns’ sign. Data is reported by NJGunForums members and updated to this post as time allows. Each carry permit holder remains responsible for looking for ‘no guns’ signage whenever entering a business. Format: County, Town, Business Name, Relevant Notes, Date Posted to the forum Note Regarding Movie Theaters: Regal, AMC, and Cinemark all operate cinemas in NJ, and all are reported by multiple sources to have 'no gun' policies. From what I can tell, only Regal mentions it on their website, buried in the 'Regal Admittance Policy/Costumes with Masks and Props' section, where both prop and real firearms are prohibited. Look closely for 'no guns' signs when attending the theater, and let me know if such signs are sighted in the wild. Note regarding Costco: I’ve not seen a ‘no guns’ sign at any Costco I’ve visited, but the corporate website prohibits carry at all Costco locations. https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/709/~/are-guns-%26-personal-firearms-allowed-in-costco-warehouses%3F Atlantic Atlantic City All Casinos Announced by Casino Association of NJ 2/7/23 Mays Landing. 18. I assume you can print in 2 point font, in a suitable color combination.
  19. The state will tell you that no guns listed on your carry permit means you can’t carry any. I’d think it means you can carry any pistol you own, but that’s just my opinion Congrats on getting the permit!
  20. The Morris County Superior Court informed me that my permit was approved and sent to my local PD! Now I need to pester the PD; they tend to sit on all things firearm-related. Mine was held up for a week by a bad serial number. I received an email from a probation officer with the court, asking for confirmation of the serial number of one of the guns on my qualification paperwork. I was out-of-state at the time, with no one in NJ with access to the gun safe, so it took a few days for me to respond Once I confirmed the correct serial number, the judge signed the permit same-day and mailed it out. I'll report back once I have the permit in-hand.
  21. ANJRPC's email just came out. And thanks, @DirtyDigz, for breaking the news here first. All in all, a pretty fine result! Of course, it would be even better if I'd received my permit...
