  1. I can't too much away but you won't like stage 1 - Bwa-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha
  2. I have my cold weather gear all sorted out so I'll be just fine thanks Bob. I also designed the stages for Somerset on Sunday so I know what you're in for - hopefully they'll make you smile. Stu.
  3. Wilkes-Barre in PA. If you have not already signed up, it's too late. No walk-ons I believe. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  4. I'll be working at the match. I don't know which bay yet but if you come across a British guy, that'll most likely be me. Come and say hello. Good luck to anyone competing. Stu.
  5. I believe the tangle revolved around that fact that one of the options is that you effectively have a locker on their premises and can access your gun at any time. It does not get entered on their FFL bound book and you don't need any permit to get it back. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  6. I assume you live in NJ (guessing because of the forum). If your buddy is an NJ resident too this can be doable. If he is not, you will need to do any transfer via an FFL. If it is a pistol you will need a PtP to take possession. If it is more than 1 pistol you will need a PtP for each and an OGAM exemption. For a long gun a COE is needed per firearm and you need to have an FID. If you can't get the paperwork done in time there is a company that started up last year which will be able to help - but for a fee, obviously. https://firearmssupportandstorage.com/storage/gunsitters/ Apparently it took a ton of work to sort out the legal mess that is NJ gun law to enable these guys to offer this service. I have not used them so cannot vouch for them. One of their guys came to a SCFGPA general meeting last year to raise awareness of their services (sales pitch). Hope it helps.
  7. My definition of a stuck case: The case holder rips off part of the rim and the case is left in the die. The remedy is to loosen the collet and drive the case out using a punch on the decapping pin. With the rim ripped up, the case is scrap. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  8. With both my XD and Glock I can reach the mag release without shifting my grip. Getting a gunwhich you can operate easily with the size hand you have is the best way, I think. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  9. Thanks all for your input. It sounds like this is not all that unusual so I'll not worry about it. Stu.
  10. If you are carrying it for self defense then that would be a definite yes. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  11. Looks more like 7.62 x 54R to me. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  12. It would have been any of a number; Beretta 92, Sig P226, multiple Glocks, CZ, you name it. Are you thinking unsupported chamber? Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  13. Further to this - I did over 500 rounds of 45 ACP and 9mm today. The scale worked perfectly checking the throw of powder. To test it out I measured one throw and then 4 throws combined. 1 throw was 5.5gn, 4 throws showed 21.5gn. I'm happy with that.
  14. It looks like it would give you a mucghbetter advantage if you had to move around in a confined space. I have looked a vid of how it assembles and I think it will make cleaning your 870 take at least 3 times as long. To me that would be a big turn off.
  15. NJ do their own verson of NICS. They claim to do extra checks against NJ data which is not available in the FBI system. They also use the FBI system for the NJ check. Mostly it is yet another way to extract money from the NJ subjects who want to buy a gun. The delay is because the State Police are not efficient enough to cope with a peak in applications and the AG doesn't give a care to how long it all takes.
  16. I had a bit of a reloading marathon this afternoon. I filled all my .45 ACP boxes so started filling a tub with 9mm for a friend. I don't have a 9mm gun so I don't reload them too often. I mostly do .40 S&W and .45 ACP. This afternoon I loaded about 350 of the 9mm and had 7 or 8 cases stick in the decapping/resizing die. I know that's not a huge number by itself but compared to 0 stuck for the several thousand .40 and .45 I have done it seems kind of high. I know the 9mm is slightly tapered whereas the .40 and .45 are straight sided. Is that likely to be the issue or should I look into this further. I've never heard of needing to lube 9mm. For info I am using a Lee Classic turret with the Lee deluxe die set (separate seating and crimping dies). It is mixed brass which has all been dry tumbled in walnut kernels. The stuck cases were a variety of headstamps. What do you think? Stu.
  17. 1. Get classified CDP Expert in IDPA 2. Actually shoot an IDPA classifier in an expert time (rather than a match bump which I've done x2) 3. Certify as an NRA rifle instructor 4. Shoot my AR more 5. If I manage to succeed with #1, get a revolver for IDPA 6. Attend NRA personal protection inside & outside the home
  18. I have thought of this before - grab a pile of COE forms and set up a table outside where ever they are doing the buy-back. Only good for rifles in NJ, of course. What has put me off is a) I don't have enough money to make it a useful expenditure of time. b) I suspect some of the guns will have been used in a crime and I don't want to be accused of that crime.
  19. I'm curious about what prompted the question. It seems to be a completely random thing to do. It would be like asking my boss from 3 jobs ago - irrelevant.
  20. Driving in snow is the one area where Darwin was wrong. By rights this should be a self-correcting phenomenon. Maybe cars are just too safe these days and crashes are too survivable. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  21. Maybe one of the FFLs on here can confirm but I was under the impression that NICS was a fee, not a service and therefore not subject to sales tax. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  22. Oil is a great primer killer. I put a tiny squirt of WD-40 in the case and let it stand for a day out more before tossing the case. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
  23. SCOTUS denied cert on the Maryland case, Woollard vs. Gallagher. The NJ case, Drake vs. Filko, was granted the delay Gura asked for and we're still waiting for cert on that one.
  24. I did indeed get it for Chrstmas. I haven't had a chance to use it alot yet but it is showing a half dozen throws from my Lee powder disc measure to be within .05gn of each other - I'm using Accurate #5 powder which is pretty fine grained and normally throws very consistently. So far I recommend it. Stu.
  25. I have been researching this recently and have found many good reviews of this jeweler's scale http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C3I2GK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=C9AQR3JDCZWU&coliid=I277QVO3818BNF I'm hoping it might be my Christmas present so I'll come back later and let you know how it works out.
