  1. Been looking to get into the rifle world but don't want to spend the money associated with moving to 5.56/.223 I know it is pretty cheap but .22lr is even cheaper. I want something bolt action for accuracy and to force a little more discipline on the trigger and ammo use. I like something that other people don't really have which is why for my handgun I went FNX 45 and not a 1911 or Glock. ( I am definitely getting a 1911 someday though, just too damn pretty not to get one). I have started a poll with some that I have come across that fit my criteria, albeit flexible criteria. Magazine fed Bolt action Preferably wood stock iron sights( not necessary) Good looks, let's be honest not one wants to shoot the Ford Edsel of the gun world ( cough Glock cough) Please feel free to add in some that I have over looked to add to my frustration and confusion. But it will be appreciated advice. Thanks in advance for the votes and advice.
  2. I was lurking around the forum the other day reading about someone looking for a rifle and the name Sako came up. So I inevitably took a look and found their Sako quad range 22lr rifle, which actually has 3 other interchangeable caliber barrels. http://www.sako.fi/sakoquadmodels.php?range So has anyone had hands on or know someone that has hands on? Is it worth the money? I think it is in the 1000 range sans optics. I think the thing is beautiful but is the beauty worth that much? I also like bit because it does not seem big around here from my lurking experience, partly from price I would guess. I like the unique or no one else has it factor. Thank for your help guys.
  3. Be a MUCH better shot than I am right now. I'm pretty new so in spite of my ego I think it is safe to say that I suck. So if you want to rob my house just make sure to be more than 7 yards away. But don't really I don't want the holes in the wall... Also decide on a myriad of things: 5.56 or 7.62 Bolt or semi If semi then AR or M1a Which 22lr rifle Try to buy a 1911 Reloading? But sadly probably no purchases, unless that 1911 just can't stop crying when I start walking out of the shop.
  4. Had a similar issue with the .45 but I never got a free box... Did get a beer coozie and hat. Been using that coozie everyday now.
  5. Stop giving away the secret you fool! Now everyone will be going to them for their ammo needs. Leaving us in the lurch. Alright, they are awesome! Give them your business. But don't purchase their 45ACP... and that isn't because I have a 45...
  6. For a while I was just carrying the firearm in the plastic case it came it and then all of my ammo, ear protection and other items in a backpack. Basically a bag that has a pocket for the firearm so it doesn't just tumble around is good enough in my opinion. But I'm also new and have not developed habits or the items of the trade that I would learn I actually need.
  7. When the target holder rotates at the end is because that position at the bench is the default position. Then while it is out you can have it turn sideways or turn to the back of your target sheet. Allows you to program turn times. I think about the programming stuff but I'm not sure. I'll have to ask the RO next time.
  8. Now big long letter to make my point abundantly clear or short and sweet with small words so they understand?
  9. Did you just get their email from the clerks office page? And you can just send them an email out of the blue?
  10. That is such a shame because I like them for just about everything else. The floor staff in the rest of the place is great, helpful, polite and fast. I actually ended up getting my first handgun from Meltzer's. Nice guys. I'll have to check out Caso's soon.
  11. Yeah, mouth hit the floor when I saw that. Should I look into getting a holster? Wait, better not jinx it.
  12. Hk mark 23 Or 1911 double stack from Para (9 or 45) Or Chiappa rhino 50D Or Just not a Glock

    Skeet/trap shotgun

That is another issue. I am not sure which to go with, trap or skeet. I suppose trying it at thunder mountain would be my best bet at figuring that out. And also what qualities belong with each type of clay target mass murder. ie longerbarrel, higher cheek rest height, shorter barrel. Thanks a lot for all the help guys

    Skeet/trap shotgun

I was thinking o/u or the semi. From what I read they should work well for skeet/trap ( or which ever I like best, still need to learn what exactly I need for each) from my limited understanding I guess those two types would let me keep my line of sight better than have to pump for the next round. I guess at first it will have to play the part for both types of shooting for now until I learn which I like best or am better at, lol. Is there a possibility of a semi with multi barrel sets or can I change them? I know very little of shotguns. Only know a little of handguns at the moment having owned one for only a few months. Thanks again guys.
  15. They helped you? I was left to flounder for ten minutes. Maybe I got the bad egg. The rest of the store is fantastic with selection and sales team is great on the floor.
  16. While on a trip I went to a range with some friends to shoot the hell out of some clay pigeons. Now I think I caught a trap/skeet bug. Now, being new to firearms I know nothing about shotguns. Designed or intended for this use. I have heard they can run on expensive side. Thanks for any tips.
  17. Thought it would jump in on this... Anyone know anything about the mark 23? I mean aside from being pretty damn ugly.
  18. 1. Light weight polymer 2. 5.7mm with a cap of 15 or 20 3. DA/SA external safety and hammer 4. Decocker 5. Wallet friendly
  19. Didn't think of it like that. Good point.
  20. You are all fools my FNX 45 is the best shooting. I may be a little biased since it is mine, my first pistol and also my only pistol but whatever. I think I like the idea of hammer fired. I had tried a M&P 9mm and that was a terrible mushy messs of a trigger. But it was a rental so I could be persuaded that is the reason. I did try a revolver recently. S&W 686. Heavy pistol. Super light single action tigger pull. Really really nice. Annnnd now I will need one of those. But probably after a rifle first. I need a much bigger wallet... KCCO Jim
  21. Agreed. I just bought 500 from freedom munitions but there were at least a few guys around here that said they were reputable. Went through 100 with one fail to feed but I saw that it the bullet was set a little deep so I expected it. We will see what the other 400 has to offer. Nice and clean too. Cleaner than Winchester white box. When I need more I may be the guinea pig and try this new source. That may be in a few months.
  22. Better than $ 0.33 a round for 45? There is better?
  23. Has anyone heard of Brass by Bill? I was hunting around gunbot.net and found it. So has anyone used it? I love the price but don't know anything about it. KCCO Jim
  24. Through all my research, posting, questions and answers I have received about choosing my firearm (FNX 45) and my ammunition (anything cheap, ) but I neglected to think about what I'll be shooting at while at the range. So, what do you shoot at? I know some of the range targets I've shot at don't really do a good job of showing what I just hit. Especially the all gray photos type that they had with the zombie on the back. Can't see shit with that side. KCCO
