  1. That sounds weird to me. If you weren’t convicted of anything, why would that hold up anything? All they should care about is convictions... you shouldn’t have to prove a court dismissed a case against you, they need to show a conviction by a court against you... As always NJ is backwards to the way things are supposed to be done. -Jim
  2. I think I will be around Sunday AM for this. I have a flat of 7.5 shot shells and a couple of cases of clays I can bring. I’ll probably stop at DD for a box-o-joe and cups and stuff. As of this moment they are saying sleet for Sunday morning so if it’s crappy weather I’m out but if it just turns to cloudy or clears up between now and then I should be good to go. I’ll verify for sure by Wed or so... -Jim
  3. That's what I was thinking but leaving it in a new bill that was just signed again just puts a unconstitutional law back in place. It should have been removed before being signed into law. The outgoing AG made the decision to put out guidance to not pursue that law based on SCOTUS which usually means it is remanded back to the assembly for a new law to be rewritten. The incoming AG can change that guidance and enforce the law then wait for it to bubble up to a court challenge if he wants to. In the meantime it's still law until it is removed or counteracted by a later enacted law specifically referencing it as far as I know. This is a later enacted law affirming the old law so they can say in court they reviewed it and found it proper even if they lose in the long run. Just being on a signed law, even an illegal one, may stop people from buying one because of confusion over the law, which NJ is known for. Maybe I am being a little paranoid but I've lived in NJ for a while so they no longer get the benefit of doubt. The NJ assembly being what it is, it just seems like the kind of BS they would pull. -Jim
  4. I was just reading though this one Christie signed on his way out. It looks like Stun guns are illegal again: Under "Prohibited weapons" " h. Stun guns. Any person who knowingly has in his possession any stun gun is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree." http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2016/Bills/S3500/3477_I1.HTM I thought the last SCOTUS ruling cleared up that they couldn't ban Stun guns? Am I reading this wrong? -Jim
  5. Ruger is starting a factory shooting team and they managed to pull top competitor Doug Koenig away from S&W to lead it. https://ruger.com/news/2018-01-15.html Looks like Ruger is getting serious about getting into the competition market. They were already pretty big with rimfire challenge, 22lr bullseye and SASS but this is good news for Ruger fans since they have been struggling to get their centerfire pistols to generate any excitement. Maybe we'll see some factory custom competition pistols come out of this like Sig is doing with the 320 x5. They already started with the GP100 Match Champion aimed squarely towards IDPA. Can't wait to see what they do next. -Jim
  6. I also want to point out that this is not just going to affect AR-15s. Everyone I know has a PCC of some sort, Beretta CX4, HiPoint 995, 4095, 4595, KelTec Sub2k, among others will all be illegal. -Jim
  7. Actually it’s a few Senate seats away. The last Governor was and current one is anti-2a. The Senate was able to block the last Gov agenda and looks like they will be able to do the same to this one so the left is going to be trying really hard to turn some senate seats in the next election there. That’s why I said we need to get some of Northern Va back to center right. -Jim
  8. I heard a lot about the NRA coming in and helping before the Gov election and the NRA rep went around to several gun clubs to speak but I haven’t heard much since then. Maybe they are deciding the next steps or coordinating with ANJRPC. We’ll find out soon if they walk the walk. We already knew they could talk... -Jim
  9. http://www.guns.com/2018/01/19/taurus-introduces-multi-caliber-revolver/ May have to check this one out. Double action with a swapable cylinder. I have been wondering for years why Ruger hasn’t done this already since they have been doing it with the Blackhawk for a long time now. There are a few 9mm only options out there but most are snubnose which I am not into or stupidly expensive ( looking at you S&W ) But I am not a huge fan of 9mm in a revolver anyway when 38/357 covers the same ground ballistically. It’d be cool to have the option in a pinch though. -Jim
  10. Found more info, there are 2 sessions: February 1&2 at Palmyra Sportsman Assn. starting at 8am till 5 pm, $300.00 (16 ports) February 3&4 at Cedar Grove NJ starting at 8am till 5 pm. $350.00 (14 ports)
  11. I was wondering if that was like going to the mattresses https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=going to the mattresses
  12. Great to hear, I watch VA closely. I grew up in Alexandria and am down in the Spotsylvania area a lot. We have been talking about moving down for a while now, not sure exactly where to in the state, maybe the Culpepper area but it’ll probably be a couple of years until we are ready to make a jump out of NJ. Now if only we can get some of northern VA back to center right we’ll be good to go... -Jim
  13. Fact is the number 1 selling centerfire rifle as a type is the AR-15 so far as I can tell, that should fall into the “common use” category of the Heller decision. I would think the Ruger Mini 14 would also fit in that as well. In fact I think an argument can be pretty easily made that the M1 carbine falls in there as well as there are tens of thousands out there in private citizen hands. None of these are “dangerous or unusual” as defined by the Supreme Court in the Miller decision so I think the argument can be made. It’s just getting it past the appellate courts and to the Supreme Court for review that seems to be the biggest issue with nearly anything out of NJ. I think that argument would trash California’s crap laws as well. -Jim
  14. http://concealednation.org/2014/01/ny-safe-act-7-round-magazine-limit-thrown-out-rest-of-safe-act-upheld/ This Article says there was a 10 round limit in New York State prior to SAFE and NYC has a 5 round limit for certain firearms...
  15. They had a 10 round limit before SAFE I think.
  16. VA Senate already killed all the new Govs bills so he’s already neutered http://www.richmond.com/news/virginia/government-politics/general-assembly/most-of-the-democratic-gun-control-agenda-dies-early-in/article_a0dbc232-51c9-5018-8b47-1c64548e9c4b.html
  17. Fact is Dems have been waiting for this for 8 years or more, it doesn’t matter what nj2as or any other group does, the only thing that may slow them down is legal action or previously judged items like 7 round magazines. That may stop the 5 round magazine thing in favor of 10 which has not been successfully fought in MA so they have no fear of passing it here where 5 is a gamble. I have no confidence at all in nj2as or any other group to do anything to stop or even slow this legislatively. If they show tangible results in the coming months, my opinion may change but for now, I doubt this is anything other then an ad to solicit money. Also, for all the people banging the NRA, (all the “I’ve been a member for 200 years and they haven’t done squat for NJ!” stuff ) You know just being a member does nothing for gun rights political and legal fights right? By law, dues cannot be used for political lobbying since that is not the NRAs mission statement or allowed because of their tax status, that’s why they created the NRA-ILA. It has separate funding for political action and legal defense. If you are concerned about legal and political issues, that is the place to put money not the NRA general donations, that money can only go to education, safety programs and sporting... (and apparently a ton of mailing and ads ) but that is national level stuff though they do back things when they get to federal court from states. For real state specific issues, you need to support the ANJRPC. That said, I doubt they can do anything legislatively at this time either, the NJ legislature has been chomping at the bit for years, they aren’t going to waste this opportunity to push anything and everything they can with a yes man in the Gov seat. -Jim
  18. Well, if you take removable magazine and one other feature that hits a heck of a lot more then ARs and AKs... My wife’s Beretta CX4 and my Ruger 10/22 with thumbhole stock will both be illegal. I can change my stock to something else but we’ll have to get rid of the Beretta which is her favorite... -Jim
  19. Easton fish and game is probably what you are thinking of... -Jim
  20. Gp100 is a good choice. You may also want to check out a S&W model 66, it's a reasonable price for a nice S&W. One of the guys I shoot with has a Colt Competition in 45. Nice gun. Well made, a little looser tolerences then the Gold Cup but it's made for a different shooting game. I'd expect the 9mm to be as good. If you want to think outside the 1911 box but still want an all metal classic, you could also check out a CZ 75 or one of the variants. I love my CZ75 SP-01 and it costs a little less then the Colt and is very accurate. -Jim
  21. But at least in VA the state senate and House will still block most of it... No, Europe is applauding and that is what the left aspires to be.
  22. I submitted my rebate for the winter revolver one (for a $50 gift card) they had going on Dec 1st. According to their online rebate status it was approved and fulfilled Dec 4th (which seemed really fast to me considering the "allow up to 10 weeks for processing" standard messaging on the rebates but hey, electronically submitted and well before the holidays so who knows right?). At the end of December I still hadn't received it so I did an online chat with one of their reps who said it looks like they printed the check card but hadn't sent it yet and they would fix the online status and put the right date in when it shipped. Here we are two weeks later and the status still shows fulfilled on Dec 4th and still no rebate. I just tried to send an email using the rebate status page "contact us" email and it won't let me submit, it says "invalid info" but all the page fields are filled in correctly. Anyone else having an issue with S&W rebates? I am going to try calling tomorrow to see if that gets a better response but it's starting to get a little annoying that I have to chase this down. -Jim
  23. I guess you are right. People are weird that way, they immediately react to a paper cut or a bee sting but I saw someone break a finger once and not react or even notice it until a few minutes later... -Jim
  24. Not really, I just know that you need to talk really loud to be louder then your ammo. I don't think it's an unreal expectation that pretty much any caliber pistol above 22 would be louder then the person holding it. All of mine are LOL Seriously though, maybe it's just the volume on the recording not catching the sound well but no one seems phased by the sound of multiple shots fired from what 3 feet away. These guys were in a space behind the counter that was maybe 3 foot x 8 foot with the gun at about the middle of the counter. You'd think their ears would be ringing a little, they seemed to have no issues talking at what seemed to be a normal conversational level afterwards. Even with ear protection sometimes my tinnitus kicks in after shooting a little bit at an indoor range. I am always content to be wrong though (happens so often, I am used to it) so maybe they were all really loud people or whatever... I'm with you though, damn good at keeping his cool and getting the job done in a high stress scenario. -Jim
  25. If it did that was a pretty low caliber. Even 38 special from 2 feet away there wouldn’t be a question of “am I shot” I don’t think. Seems like the guard was talking louder then the shots on the tape. Maybe it’s a 22 revolver... No idea if it happened here though. If it did, more power too him. He stopped a crime in progress and the perps apparently had a weapon and could have hurt someone. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. In NJ they’ll probably arrest the guard and he’ll get a longer jail term then the robbers
