  1. I go to Kohl's and Kmart from time to time and look at their clearance racks. They usually have Dickie's or Toughskins on sale for about $15.
  2. - New Jersey: Due to New Jersey laws and regulations pertaining to firearms and firearms use, All RONI, RONI STABILIZERS, MICRO RONI, & MICRO RONI STABILIZER PISTOL CARBINE CONVERSION KITS are not authorized for sale or use in the State of New Jersey. MICRO RONI G4 (GEN 4) HAS NFA RESTRICTIONS. TAX STAMP IS REQUIRED. https://caagearup.com/products/micro-roni-g4 From the Roni website. Just be careful out there...
  3. Lat update...again. I shot from a bag this time instead of the bipod, and I tried to really slow down and concentrate. Had much better groups this time. I was trying different ammo so this was the one that did best. Still 168 grain HPBT, but it was in Winchester 308 brass, not Lake City NATO: All targets were under 1 MOA (barely for two) and one had all three shots in one hole. Looking forward to getting to a point where all the targets look like the upper left.
  4. Very Nice! Definitely on my list...
  5. My Mini-14 is one of my favorite guns to bring to the range. It's definitely NOT a precision shooter by any means, but it cycles everything I've put through it and has been a breeze to maintain. It's pictured on the left here with an inexpensive Bushnell Dropzone 223 Scope: Have fun!
  6. Just let me know if you need any help moving, sorting, or categorizing. I'll waive my normal hourly labor rate in exchange for getting the first look...
  7. Thanks GRIZ. I'll be very happy if I can get to consistent 3/4" groups. At that point I'll decide if I want to invest the time it takes (range trips, brass prep, reloading, travel to longer ranges in PA, etc, etc) to get even better.
  8. I actually forgot to post the step by step pics I took!!! They're here - https://imgur.com/a/B7F2CCF I put the album together for my son who went away to college and missed the fun. The side by side pic is with a Ruger Mini-14, the girl is my daughter (very good shot for her age) and target from 50 yards when she tried it for the first time.
  9. Thanks medved11. I already use a rear bag, so I'll try with a front bag instead of a bipod next time. I'm definitely slowing down and trying to focus on basics.
  10. Thanks Griz. Ammo is Ammo Incorporated 168 gr BTHP loaded in Lake City brass. Not great ammo by any means, but I don't think it's causing the wide groups (conditions were really good).
  11. Sorry to hear about your seizure. I'd recommend taking any advice you get from the forum with a grain of salt and consulting ith your attorney before taking any action. That said, I tend to agree with those who have said they magazines are yours to alter or dispose of and NOT the property of the police department. Unless they reimburse you for the full retail cost, I'd say you should demand them back. At a minumum you could sell them or trade them for different magazines. Good luck
  12. Last update on this thread for me. Gun still functions great, so I just have to lean how to shoot it. Went out this morning for a while and did a bit better than the first time: Group 5 was a hair under an inch and group 3 was a hair over. Group 4 was .68 so in the 2 weeks I've been shooting with a bolt gun that's the best one. I tried to write down a lot of things I was doing so I can remember for next time. Goal is to regular improvement.
  13. Thanks Griz. All great advice here. Looking forward to getting out again.
  14. Thanks Bully. Family will be around tomorrow so I'll have to catch you next time! I was alone for a while today so i hit the range again. Marginally better, but I was still very rough on the trigger: Thanks Malice4you. I'm making a list of tips so we'll see how things go next time.
  15. Just got back from the range, so here's an update. I had a great time and the gun functioned with zero issues. I joined a bunch of long range/sniper forums and some recommended "breaking in" a new barrel, so I cleaned the barrel between the first 10 shots and allowed the barrel to cool before each shot. Probably a waste of time, but it couldn't hurt, so i did it. After the 10 break-in shots I tried some 3 shot groups at 100 yards. I was using Federal Lake City 149 grain 7.62 NATO ammo and there were no issues at all feeding or ejecting. I have some 168 grain .308 ammo on order that MAY be here later today, so I'll try to get to the range tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. This is my first precision gun, and my first time trying for groups, so I considered just hitting the paper as a success. I labeled the order of the groups as well as my point of aim. I was hoping that the gun would magically make me a 1 MOA shooter, but honestly I built it this way so I could do a lot of practice and learn how to shoot, so I think it will work well.
  16. I thought LAX and Freedom were part of the same company?
  17. Figured it out. After taking everything apart...again...it turns out that the problem was with the stock. There's a little channel behind the bolt that's supposed to allow it to travel freely back and forth, but the channel wasn't deep enough so the bolt was rubbing against it. So each time the guide part on the bolt passed it, it made a bit of a ramp, so the line of travel wasn't straight and there was friction against the metal frame. I used a light tough with my dremmel tool to make the channel big enough for the bolt, and now the action is smooth as silk. Before: After: I took some step by step pictures so I'll post them in a bit.
  18. I had some time off this morning so I started building. I think things went well, HOWEVER once everything was cleaned, assembled, and oiled, the action was VERY stiff. Stiff as in it reminded me of my Mosin. Is this normal for a new gun and I just have to cycle the action a million times, or should I look closer before taking it to the range this weekend. I initially had some trouble lining up the magazine so I took everything apart and put it back together, but it's still really stiff. Any thoughts?
  19. Just got back from the FFL. NICS turnaround was just under 6 minutes!! That's a record for me. Too much work tonight to get started so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
  20. This. The sprays will soak into the nest so eventually they'll all die.
  21. With any luck I'll be able to give an initial range report next weekend. If you want to get a part of the build now, Brownells has a 20" heavy barrel in .308 on sale for $239 - https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/barreled-receivers/1500-308-win-20-heavy-barreled-action-prod94606.aspx Look for coupons for free shipping (and sometimes $25 off orders off $200 or more) and put it in your safe untile the rest of the money comes in.
  22. Stock, Scope, scope rings, and scope ring mounts all came in today The bolt action was delivered to my FFL, but I won't be able to get there until Tuesday!!!!! Hope to find time after work next week to get everything together and then hit the range to break it in. I'll order some ammo tonight as well.
