Maksim 1,504 Posted June 21, 2009 No nics done if it is a face to face private transaction, as long as obviously pistol permits and fid in order.
Radek 73 Posted June 21, 2009 I didn't know FTF transactions in handguns were OK in NJ ... I haven't seen evidence this is legal. We know that in NJ, FID permits long gun purchases only (unlimited, but w/ NICS check everytime), but has no bearing on hand-gun purchase permit, which is completely separate. (e.g., One can have a FID, but may not have any handguns purchased.) If FTF transaction is indeed allowed in NJ, who informs (police) as to who owns the gun now at end of transaction? I know this is a police state (some call it commie even!).
Chad 3 Posted June 21, 2009 FTF handgun sales are 100% legal in NJ as long as the seller is a NJ resident. For FTF handgun transactions you still need a Permit to Purchase, on the bottom of the PP where it says 'to be filled in by seller" there are two "blocks", "A" and "B". Block A is reserved for individual sellers, Block B is reserved for store sales. It is the responsibility of the seller to forward copies within 5 days as follows; white copy goes to NJSP, yellow copy goes to issuing police department, pink is kept by buyer, blue is kept by seller.
