Sarco trip and maybe range time

Recommended Posts

Everything I own gets shot and shot frequently. No such thing as a "safe queen" in my house.

Perhaps I should have clarified. Nice looking or just shooter grade? My Sarco M44 is not a collector grade by any stretch.

Did they have any other decent Mausers? Yugo or otherwise?

I would say the mauser is one of the most beautiful surplus rifles you can get without spending major bucks. The m44 ended cleaning up pretty nice, but i would still rate it as a shooter. Here are pics....

That's a K98 Yugo? It says 24/47 right on there.. I have the younger brother.. (With the newer crest)..I got it from J&G for $159.. I love the thing.. I still haven't cleaned her fully.. i made sure the bore was clean and then shot her till the cosmo boiled out of the stock :-P..

It's amazing how much ammo you can burn through trying to cut a 1x2 in half..:lol:

But +1.. damn beautiful rifles.. I'm actually very suprised.. coming from sarco in that quality :-P

And.. can I have a lollipop ?

well the mauser i paid 200 for it. I still havent started to clean it up yet, as you can still see the tag in the pic. The m44 i paid 100 for the rifle and 25 for the cosmo. I still have to get the cosmo out of the stock but here are before pics.

Don't knock those good old service rifles. If you want beauty, get a shiney new black rifle.

If you want a shooter, stick to those surplus rifles.Hint on accuracy on those M-44's.

If it comes with the bayonet, keep it extended. Has something to do with the balance.

Good shooting.

I heard that it was the barrel harmonics.

Richie and I both shot mine with the bayo folded and it didn't appreciably affect accuracy.

I think the rifles were sighted in at the arsenals with bayos extended and attached in the USSR. Common soviet practice was to always have the bayo attached. I guess they thought it was a symbol that they would fight till the end. I think that's why a 91/30 bayo is super hard to get off once you put it on.

Your M44 was dead on with bay folded.
