Shipping to gunsmith

I'm thinking about shipping my Beretta to an out-of-state gunsmith.

 

Has anyone had any experience dealing with UPS or FedEx to ship a handgun?

 

I'm hoping to avoid any pitfalls.

GS, any way you ship it, it has to arrive within 2 days, I perfer UPS

tj462nj, I use US Postal Priority Mail for all handguns. The cheapest by far. USPS doesn't care how you send it. They suggest Registered Mail, which I use on occasion for those over 5K valued handguns.

 

gunscribe, you will need to use UPS Next Day Air or FedEx Standard Overnight at the least and per their terms. It will be expensive.

I have shipped with both UPS and FEDEX. I have never had a problem. Just reveiw the rules and be sure to disclose the package contains a firearm when you mail it. Do not have anything on the outside of the package that would indicate it contains a firearm. Use a plain cardboard box or FEDEX box. Use the smith's name but not the word "gunsmith". For example, when shipping to Herny Repeating Arms Company the name is "HRAC".

I've always done handguns and rifles FedEx. Only for the reason they were closer and had better hours. UPS requires Overnight i believe and it will not be cheap.

I use fedex "overnight saver" IIRC is what it's called.

It gets there the next day, but just not in the morning.
