223lover 9 Posted September 9, 2009 I have 2 hypothetical questions. If you possessed a weapon before NJ outlawed ownership of said weapon, can you sell it to or through a FFL dealer? And part two, if it is illegal to possess a high capacity magazine, you can
coldsolderjoint 84 Posted September 9, 2009 I'm not an expert, but I think you would only be able to sell/transfer your now-illegal assault weapon if you had filed the paperwork to register it when the ban went into place.. Otherwise, Assault Weapons and High Capacity Mag's do not exist

Blackfox 1 Posted September 9, 2009 Can remember the year I think was 1991 to register your firearm. I took mine out of Jersey because I was afraid if I register they will come back later and take away, I kept the mag, I put a piece of wood to make them legal. I don

Lublin 3 Posted September 9, 2009 An AR would only be registered if you bought it from an FFL, right?

The way I understand it, as Blackfox has said, when the NJ gun ban (evil features list) was passed, there was a very short time period, where if you had a (now) illegal weapon, you could fill out forms with the State to register it, and then you would be grandfathered in. 223lover 9 Posted September 9, 2009 I used to have a M-1 carbine that I sold right before the ban took effect. I guy I sold it to retired and now lives in Pa. I just thought curious about the mag thing. If you had one, it would be lke fly paper. You just can't get rid of it no matter what you do.
Cylinder Head 22 Posted September 9, 2009 Technically, at least according to 44mag.com, if said "high capacity" magazine is completely disassembled, it is considered a "rebuild kit". So remove the butt plate, spring and follower and it is no longer a magazine.
