but killed my first target stand today :). there was a collection of small caliber holes in the frame already, 22lr and .223, but today finished it for good. it survived 4 or 5 .40 on the right side (Thanks mom), but 3 or 4 .40 in the bottom piece left it held together more by cardboard than anything else. ah well, was a good time :)

Won't be the last I'm sure. That's why they're made of the cheapest wood possible, so that you don't groan when you have an oops.

It's a fact of life at any firing range. We replace them twice a year. Fortunately one member does his w\required work hours building them.

What is aggravating is when a member hangs a target over the upright instead of in the center where they are told resulting in the upright getting shot out. But after a while frames just need replacing.

I buy these little birchwood casey metal stands that stick in the ground that are made of 1/4" roundbar and hold a 24x24" piece of corrugated plastic for use at the outdoor range. I have enough skill to at least avoid hitting the metal frame but when i bring one friend, his skills are a bit more remedial and always ends up blasting the legs off it. Last time I brought him, he ruined two in one session. Needless to say, he has to supply his own targets from now on.
