whats the law with ak-47 kits and bending your own receiver

just like the title says, whats the law in nj if you were to buy an ak47 kit with the chopped up receiver and bent your own receiver.

MANUFACTURING. You have to use one was transferred to you and has a serial number.

PK, is that a NJ law? I thought under federal, you could make your own as long as you never sell/transfer it? (The 90% completed Lowers, and the unbent AK receivers).

It's legal under federal law, but under NJ law, it's Manufacturing. I'd LOVE to do a couple of home-builds from 80% recievers, but i think you're skirting the ragged edge of disaster in this state. Hell putting together a parts kit, if the manufacturing statute is applied liberally enough could cause problems with the wrong prosecutor.
