When the Federal Assault weapons ban was enacted under President Clinton, guns were grandfather-claused. In other words it was OK to own a Colt AR15 manufactured the day before the ban was enacted, but not one the day after. Pre-ban rifles became very popular and expensive because of that law, not that it mattered in our state.

Prior to this, in the People's Republic of New Jersey, shitbag Governor Florio passed an Assault Weapons ban that had no pre-ban exemption. In other words, law-abiding NJ citizens were turned into criminals with the stroke of his pen.

Our state's weapons ban was the model for the national one. The Clinton ban was "massaged" in Congress and made less restrictive than the NJ one in order to get moderate Dems and Republicans to vote for it.

NY and a few other AW states also recognize Preban rifles, and especially in NY, Magazines.
