(04/30/10) DELMONT (AP) - A multiple sclerosis patient in New Jersey has posted $15,000 bail to gain his release while he appeals his conviction for growing marijuana.

Thirty-seven-year-old John Wilson of Franklin Township, Somerset County, was sentenced last month to five years in prison.

Wilson says the trial judge was wrong to bar references about his medical condition and his claim that he used the drug for medicinal purposes.

Since Wilson's arrest, New Jersey has adopted a law that will make medical marijuana legal, with certain restrictions, on Aug. 1.

Wilson was released from Southern State Prison in Delmont around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
