Remington Targetmaster Date Codes

Recommended Posts

Since I've been thinking about .22 rifles, I had an urge to find out a little more about my dad's .22 rifle. I couldn't find any serial #. Apparently, the gun predates the requirement to have a SN stamped on it. But it has a date code (A PP) stamped on the barrel. I found a site that has some information about date codes, and it turns out that this gun was manufactured in March of 1945. Wow. That's over 10 years before I was born.

If anyone has a datecoded Targetmaster, this is the link to the site.

Cool.

I called up Remington about the 1100 I used to have. The guy actually was very friendly, and had access to the factory configuration the gun left in and the date. I forgot how we got talking, but we actually ended up talking for like 20 minutes. He almost fell off his chair multiple times when he asked how much a gun smith in NJ costs, and then all the crap we have to put up with in this state.
