Butchered another one.........

Recommended Posts

I must say that re-snipering ex sniper Mosins is turning into quite the obsession for me. I am on a constant prowl for ex snipers, and already have a large supply of original scopes. Here is the latest one, a 1943 Izzy with correct scope. Re-arsenaled in 1953 and 1961 but was originally made in 1943. I bent the bolt myself using the method I posted on here about a yr ago.http://www.njgunforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=2441 I will give a range report this weekend after I go shootin'. If anybody is looking for a good fun weekend project and wants to get into basic gunsmithing I would recommend doing this.

I had to be like Vasilli and put a Naval Infantry sling on it!

Well I hit the gunshow in Allentown today. Was kinda cool, lots of stuff to drool over. I picked up 2 more ex snipers from eagle arms. They had a crate of mosins and I swear 80% were ex snipers. Here are some pics of the pair with the first layer of cosmo taken off. Hopefully they shoot as good as they look. Interestingly enough, the Izhevsk is better fitted and machined than the Tula. The bore in the Izhevsk is near perfect. I tried to get a pic like you see on the boards of the bore, but my hat is off to all of you that can do that nicely. I just gave up. The Tula has a good bore just caked full of junk, I did a quick cleaning and will shoot it clean tomorrow. Unfortunately they put the refurb stamp on top of the CH on the Tula :o

Here is the Tula:

Well I finished another one today. Scope is an original and the mount is a post-war Ukranian mount. The mounts are top quality and the best around IMHO. The shellac on this one was horrid and I tried something different on this one. I stripped it, did an aged oil finish and topped it off with some Toms 1/3 gunstock wax. I still have another coat of wax to do, but it is amazing. It really brought out the grain, the pics dont do it justice. This is a 1944 Izhevsk with a proper 1944 scope. It shot good groups with iron sights over the weekend, now just to see how it does with the scope!
