Failzero AR-15 Extreme Duty Kit

Recommended Posts

I've heard good things, but the one thing I'd recommend overall is to ALWAYS KEEP YOUR AR LUBED. The FailZero parts are a good fallback, but there is no replacement for lube in an AR.

Copy that. So you think it's a good investment ?

Is this your first AR? If it is, then I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't build the upper for your first one. Lower is fine to do on your own, but I would buy a complete upper.

Also, and more importantly, what are your planned uses for the gun?

You are correct Sir. This is my first AR. And i know what you are saying about not building the first one but I already bought other parts for the upper so I would like to finish this project as it is. I do have access to a very experienced ex-army weapons specialist and certified gunsmith who pledged his full support :)

I pretty much use all my guns for range target shooting only.

If they'll build it for you I don't see a problem with allowing that to happen, then you can hand pick all the bits you want. Compatibility isn't much of an issue anymore as most of the parts are standardized. Definitely mid length gas system, don't bother with an M4 profile barrel, and take your pick as for the rest of the stuff you want. The FailZero stuff is great (from what I've heard), but I'd read THIS ARTICLE:

The Big M4 Myth

That will give you a good idea as to how to really bulletproof your AR.

"The Big M4 Myth" is very informative. When I built my first carbine AR I did make sure to use a heavier buffer (H2) but for how cheap it is to upgrade the spring and extractor assembly I think I'll buy myself an xmas gift and see how she does next time at the range.

Personally, in terms of reliability...your money could be spent better elsewhere. I see a $400 for an upper and BCG that isn't really held in high regard against the "combat" manufacturers. I run an LMT factory lower with a BCM upper, LMT enhanced BCG, and BCM 14.5" (16" with muzzle furn) barrel.

BCM makes great products as well as LMT. Colt is also a good name for BCG's.

If I were you:

BCM Upper (ramps or not, depending on your barrel)-$90

LMT enhanced BCG (buy an extra set of springs, they've been known to crack them) $285

Slip EWL and 725

Those parts combined with good ammo and running her wet...she'll do you right.

FWIW I know operators who shoot VOLUMES of fire (1000 rds. per training session) with those combos.

I have to mostly agree with Big Jay. The one difference I would make to his suggested combo is a BCM BCG instead of the LMT Enhanced and save a few bucks. I don't think I've done more than 600 rounds in a training session, but the BCM BCG has served me well so far.

BIG +1 on the Slip EWL tho

Pretty much agree there too. I have the LMT enhanced because it was a gift. Either the BCM or LMT regular BCGs which are in the $150 range will work just as well.
