Forearm length

Would it be illigal to have a forearm (say a carbon fiber tube on an AR) longer than barrel? From the side it would look like a internally supressed firearm.

It would essentially act as a handguard, one that is longer than normal. I don't see why there should be any problem with it.

Knowing how anal some 'people' here are, I was thinking that with the muzzle recessed, the forearm could be seen to act like a flash suppressor/hider and perhaps even a 'silencer'.

Who the hell knows, but the better question is why the hell would you want such a thing?

Fair enough. You will probably destroy the tube sooner or later, but its your money Actually, I'd be concerned about the pressure wave cracking a CF tube, I'm not sure they are built to take internal pressure and CF can be unpredictable when it lets go unless it was designed with that in mind.

Or I coule use alum tube. Certainly cheaper option.

I believe that is about pistols not rifles.

Ahh ok. Wasn't sure. I've seen "shrouds" on GSG-5's which made them look like MP5-SD's.

Well....to be more specific......

 

ii. A semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at

least two of the following:

(1) An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

(2) A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor,

forward handgrip, or silencer;

(3) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles the barrel and

that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being

burned;

(4) Manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and/or

(5) A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm

 

So it's not JUST semi-automatic pistols with mags that attach outside of the pistol grip. It's also if the pistol has a threaded barrel, weighs 50 ounces or more unloaded, or is a semi-automatic version of an automatic pistol.
