alloy

Recommended Posts

I bought a new 686 Plus S&W 7-shot revolver in brushed stainless steel. Nice piece.

Anyone out there know what stainless steel alloy is used? Hardness? It is my understanding that the more stainless/rust-free and non-magnetic SS alloys are not as hard, due to alloy or heat treatment restrictions.

Thanks,

Blue1

congrats on a nice gun. dont know anything about the type of steel, however just know I love them. =)

Now, just one question for the masses, why do people call a gun a "piece"? Anytime I hear it, I think of gangsters talking about how many bullets fit in their clip for their piece.

Welcome to the board, Blue!

I'm a big fan of the S&W 686's. Sadly, I don't know what alloy of steel they use.

Also, I always assocaited "piece" with western movies. To each their own, I guess.
