usnmars 136 Posted August 13, 2011 I traded a Yugo mauser for this one today and it has me stumped...... Really Stumped. A British Enfield with a German stamp on it. Anyone have a clue on this one? Please excuse the pics, I am the worlds worst photographer and I haven't even attempted to wipe the grease off of it yet. There isn't a speck of rust on it, just a ton of dried grease that smells like poo..... (and it aint cosmo)
halbautomatisch 60 Posted August 13, 2011 Eric, I can't quite make out the lettering on the bottom pic, what does it say?
Caine 147 Posted August 13, 2011 Google turned up this: http://www.enfield-stuff.com/regimentals/rifles/enfield_queue/Queue_Austria.htm http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?69115-OSTERR-GENDARMERIE-marked-No1MkIII http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=21743 Seems to be Austrian police - not German. Caine 147 Posted August 13, 2011 Yeah - I put in "usterr" as well - but, Google being smarter than I am, suggested "osterr"
halbautomatisch 60 Posted August 13, 2011 Yeah - I put in "usterr" as well - but, Google being smarter than I am, suggested "osterr" That's what I was thinking would make the most sense, but the O looks totally like a U.

tuktuk 16 Posted August 13, 2011 wow ... u live u learn ... never knew about the British rifle in the hamds of Austrian gendarmes .... they kept it . 303 ?
usnmars 136 Posted August 29, 2011 I shot it while I was home last time and it shot great. The bore ended up being really nice and clean and overall this thing cleaned up awesome. As an added plus the original oiler and cleaning kit was in the buttstock too. It is still chambered in .303 and I was shootin some 1941 winchester surplus ammo out if it. It felt good to let this thing stretch it's legs a little for the first time in about 70 yrs.
