Hello friends.

I have two PP's that were issued on 5/24/11. Obviously they are now expired, just as I find a pistol I'd like to purchase. 180 days from 5/24 is roughly 8/24, so extending them would've set them to expire at 11/24. Any thoughts on whether or not PD's will renew this late in the game? I know some will renew only if they aren't expired yet, although it seems like it would be the same time period either way. Then again that makes sense, so it's probably not an option.

Thoughts?

Not sure, I was under the impression that permits would need to be extended prior to the original 90 days. After that I didn't think they would, or if they did it was just someone getting very lucky.

Edit to add, please read more of the thread with correction to this post.

My PD is just the opposite. They will only renew AFTER the original permit has expired.

Same here, when I asked the PD if I could extend my permits after they expired he responded of course, why would you extend them before they expired. To the original question, depending on your PD it could take more than 2 weeks (my case) to renew and with the 11/24 end date it would be cutting it close.

2 weeks to renew?

I just make an appointment, he signs off an on extension and on my way.

But... because it has been so long since they lapsed, in all likelyhood, you would have to reapply. however... call and find out.

True in my town as well. I've heard the in some towns, one can just bring them down to PD headquarters and they will sign off on them. In my case, I had to wait a few days.

My PD told me that the permit could be renewed anytime before the 180 days is out, they will renew before the 90 days is up within reason. Keep in mind if you renew on day 170 you still only have 10 days left. My PD will take a few days to renew the permit, it's not done on the spot.

Every town is different, and some will not renew them at all, even though it's in their best interest to renew them rather than make you apply for new ones.

Well no reason to edit my first post being it's been quoted a time or 2 but I am glad I was misinformed, I really wish we did this a few months back or my OL would have been entered into the Pink .380 Carma thread. Oh well, just another time the forum comes through with good info.

Heading out to vote and then renew my permits, I'll report back!

Wow. I walked in expecting a knock-down drag-out war and left 7 minutes later with a renewed P2P. I suppose it does make sense since it didn't go directly through the chief, so he didn't have the opportunity to give and enforce his personal opinion per usual. Oh boy, new gun day!
