ShoreZ11759 0 Posted January 16, 2012 Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and new to guns in general. I picked up a semi-auto Browning Silver Hunter a few weeks back, shot about 150 shells through it and ready to go again. I was cleaning and looking in the receiver and saw this wear into the receiver and can't figure out if this is normal or not. Please take a look at the picture and tell me if this is normal in a semi-auto for wear. Joe
Parker 213 Posted January 16, 2012 Looks like nothing to be concerned over. I would put a very thin film of lube (grease) where the bolt contacts the aluminum receiver and along the bolt guides inside the frame to minimize wear. The marks inside the lower receiver walls are probably made by the shell's rim during during loading and feeding process.
tony357 386 Posted January 16, 2012 That is normal.
ShoreZ11759 0 Posted January 27, 2012 thanks for the responses. i'm going to keep that area well cleaned with Rem oil too, hopefully the teflon will help reduce a little of it. I think you are right, it is the shell rim making the marks
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted January 27, 2012 Rem oil blows. Use a good oil like mili-tec. I actually use grease for anything that slides, tetra gun grease. Many people will say thats a bad idea due to cold weather but I have literally had ZERO malfunctions with it in the cold (or warm) and guess what? I ONLY use grease now except for corrosion resistant applications and things that rotate like a revolver cylinder or pins on an AK trigger group. ShoreZ11759 0 Posted February 1, 2012 I was thinking of using breakfree clp, any input on that oil?
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted February 1, 2012 Not a good lubricant IMHO. Too thin
