Chainsaw comming through your front door. Would you Shoot?

Recommended Posts

The flip side is

A) You assume it's a bad guy with chain saw. You shoot. It is a bad guy. The threat is stopped. Life goes on for you.

B) You assume it's incompetent FBI. It isn't. Bad guy kills you.

You wait for 'full target identification', meanwhile the bad guy doesn't and kills you.

In a situation like this, you can either hope it is Law Enforcement, they have made a mistake, and let you live, or you can defend yourself against whoever it may be, and instead of leaving your life entirely up to chance, be prepared to defend yourself.

One thing is for sure. Whatever way you look at it, it is a shitty situation, and there is no guarantee to your safety.

Paradoxically, in the real life situation, the unarmed person lives and the armed person dies. Most replies here say they would shoot (and be killed by the FBI). Right answer, wrong outcome.

Just like playing poker and being scared you're being bluffed, you'll pay off all the bets when folding is the better course of action.

bottom line, there is no guarantee of your safety.

Indeed, and that was my point. Quite ironic really. I wasn't saying one thing was better than the other, more so just illustrating how sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, you might be effed.

It is reasons like this and the Jose Guerena incident (as examples) why I am entirely against executing a warrant by means of force. Serve the warrant. If after it has been served, and they are not compliant, and you have no option but to use force..okay. If someone is known to be in immediate danger..okay. But using it as a first option is stupid, and dangerous for the residents and police both.

Did you read about the case in Buffalo where a guy just got a new wireless router, no password and some neighbor downloaded child porn? Federal agents executed a no-knock warrant with assault rifles and full 9-yards. It was over the top. I can see sending in SWAT if the suspect is known killer or reasonably believed to be dangerous but busting down a guy's door for child porn and it wasn't even the right guy? Not that I'm in any way condoning child porn as those perverts should rot in prison but the SWAT team seems unnecessary.

If you did shoot you would most likely end up dead. I would hope I'd wait and ID the target but who knows what I would actually do. I would hate to shoot a bad 10 year old kid that got a hold of his daddy's chainsaw as much as I'd hate to shoot a cop that was trying to do his job (even if he was doing it poorly).

This is a good case for target identification

Yeah, right. I need to ID a target chainsawing my front door. It could be my mother in law. I think I'm pretty damn well in fear for my life at that point.

Hopefully they are identifying themselves loud enough to be heard over the chainsaw

Yeah. "We're Cops. We promise!"

How about knocking? Or at least parking a few cruisers and giving us 10 seconds after a loudspeaker announcement to look out a window. Oh, I forgot. We don't do that anymore.

You bet your a** I would shoot. A whole lot. Cops conduct themselves in a professional manner. Gang members storm your house.
