Mike903 1 Posted March 12, 2012 Sorry for all the stupid questions but I am new at this. I know what an ffl is but how does it work as far as buying a gun over the Internet? Thanks in advance for any help!
Gun Guy in NJ 10 Posted March 12, 2012 the online seller ships to your FFL and you pick it up there
Maksim 1,504 Posted March 12, 2012 You buy the gun, it gets sent to your local FFL, you pick up from local FFL and pay for nics + dealers transfer fee. Selling FFL will request from you a copy of the FFL license for the dealer where the gun is shipping to. Call local FFL and request a copy, or have them send it to the shipping dealer. lunker 274 Posted March 12, 2012 It really is as simple as that. Your FFL faxes proof of his FFL to the seller. The only difference you see in the end is the extra transfer fee your FFL will charge for the transaction. It should be $40 or less. If not, check with sponsors of this site. They are cheaper than 90% of FFLs in this state, and have better service too.
Mike903 1 Posted March 12, 2012 So if I saw something I wanted to buy I would contact the ffl first and tell him I want to use him to get that firearm and then buy or buy first and then get the ffl? Thanks guys.
halbautomatisch 60 Posted March 13, 2012 It's best to talk to your FFL first to make sure he is OK with what you are looking get sent to him, and to check what he is going to charge you.
rdsmith3 19 Posted March 13, 2012 I am new at this, too, but it really is a simple process and works well. In my case, I bought a Walther PPQ from Jet Guns, and had it shipped to RTSP in Randolph. RTSP was in Jet Gun's data base, which means they had done business with them before. I ordered the gun, then called RTSP to tell them I had just ordered it and was going to use them as FFL. When it arrived, according to the tracking info, I again called RTSP and told them I would be coming in that evening to pick it up. They requested that I be there by 7:00 (ideally) but no later than 7:30. I got there on time and the transaction went fairly smoothly. I paid $35 transfer fee plus NICS fee to RTSP and took my gun home.
Fishpaw 17 Posted March 13, 2012 From what Ive read and seen on TV...its a loophole....where tons of automatic guns flood the streets...and people can just buy guns from a criminal out of the back of a car in a parking lot...
